Quick Facts
One of the dominant programs in the Southland year in and year out is LA City. Coach Miller is one of the very best in the business, and he always attracts the top talent from all over the country.
According to Coach Miller, there were 15 former LACC players playing at Division I schools in 2004-05, which has to be a record. And they've placed 50 guys in D-1 over the last decade, more than any other JC in the nation (not just California). One of them (Tyrone Riley) starred for my alma mater, the University of San Francisco (Go Dons!); I saw him post a double-double when he was a senior as the Dons topped the University of the Pacific in Stockton (UOP won their next 21 games and went to the NCAA tourney that year).
And when it comes to winning...well there are few programs that can compare to LACC in recent years. They've won 13 straight South Coast South Division titles (through 2005-06), and that includes a pair of state championships (1997 and 2003).
Their well-known gym, the "Y-Nasium", finally met the wrecking ball last summer, so now they play in the "Z-Nasium" on the other side of campus. It's tiny, but they've done a great job of fixing it up. It's right off Heliotrope, right next to the Campus Security station.
To get to the College, take the Vermont exit off the 101 and head north. LACC is on the left, just after Melrose but before Fountain. On Fridays & Saturdays (the only days I've ever been there) there is ample parking on Heliotrope.
