Sequoias 89, LA Trade Tech 55

SF Chris Dixon had 20 pts, including 6 of College of the Sequoias' 14 3-pointers, as the hot-shooting Giants raced past LA Trade Tech, 89-55, in the consolation final of the 7th Annual Fresno City College Tip-Off Tournament Sunday afternoon.

At one point, Sequoias (4-2) made 8 straight field goals, including 5 3-pointers, and over a 13-minute stretch to end the first half and begin the second half the Giants made 17 of 20 shots from the floor. That changed a 2-point deficit to a 22-point lead, and basically decided the game.

It was even in the early going, with LA Trade Tech (1-3) PF Josh Chatman scoring the game's first four points. The game was tied several times, and Trade Tech led, 19-17, before the shooting streak began.

Once the hot streak began, it just continued to build. SG Adrian Pascua gave Seqouias its first lead of the game, 20-19, with just under six minutes left in the first half. Then PG Jermaine Dansby hit a 3-pointer. And Pascua hit another. And Dixon hit one to make it 29-29 with 4:25 left.

Trade Tech finally started making some shots, but Sequoias answered the LATT 2-pointers with 3-pointers and the lead continued to grow. SF Steven Hester scored on a driving lay-up for LATT, but Dixon hit a 3-pointer to make it 32-21. SG Donte McFrazier hit a short jumper for LATT, but Dixon hit another 3-pointer to make it 35-23. Then Dansby hit a short jumper and PF Marquis Ransom nailed a three to push Sequoias' lead to 40-23, completing a 17-4 run.

It was 44-27 at halftime, but in the second half Sequoias pulled further away. Another Dixon 3-pointer and a lay-up by Ctr Brandon Pomrehn made it 49-27, and the lead never went below 20 the rest of the way. Pascua hit COS' 12th 3-pointer to push the margin to 30 at 76-46, and Dansby hit another moments later to 79-46, pretty much completing the rout.

Dixon finished with 20 pts and 5 asts, earning a spot on the all-tournament team. SF Bill Borekambi came off the bench for 14 pts and 8 rebs, and Dansby had 13 pts and a game-high 6 asts. Pascua added 13 pts off the bench and Ransom had 10. Overall, COS shot 55% but after a 5-for-22 start the Giants were 26-for-39 (67%) over the last 26 minutes of the game.

For Trade Tech, Ctr Len Springs led the way with 12 pts and 9 rebs. PG Jamie Trujeque came off the bench and had 8 pts, while Hester and Ctr Clint Bozner had 7 pts each.
