Seven players scored in double figures for Chaffey (4-3), which made 16 threes and forced 40 turnovers in a 119-82 romp past East LA (4-4) in the third place game of the 2008 Neil Edwards Classic at Citrus College Sunday afternoon.
Chaffey jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first 3:50 and was never headed. The Panthers pushed the lead past the 30-point mark in the first half, going ahead 48-16. At that point, Chaffey was shooting 60% from the floor with 8 threes and had already forced 16 East LA turnovers.
Chaffey's halftime lead was 62-33, and the Panthers were never challenged. Chaffey grabbed 26 steals in the game and even outrebounded the Huskies, 48-43, in a display of total domination.
PF Brandon Clemons led the way for Chaffey with 17 pts, 6 rebs and 5 steals. Ctr Winston Robinson had 15 pts, 4 rebs, 2 blocks and 4 steals. SF Troy Allen had 14 pts on 6-of-7 shooting while SF Jordan Block had 13 pts and 4 steals. PG Isaac Segovia had 12 pts, all on threes. SG Stephon Robinson had 11 pts, 6 rebs, 6 asts and 2 steals. Ctr David Renfroe had 10 pts. And PG Jamal Sloan had 7 pts, a team-high 8 asts and 3 steals for the Panthers.
PG Kerdt Elisaldez had 17 pts and 9 asts to lead East LA. Ctr Josh Hilario came off the bench for 16 pts on 7-of-8 shooting. Ctr Richard Westphaim (12 pts) and SG Jerry Santos (11 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts) also scored in double figures for East LA.
Block and Elisaldez were named to the all-tournament team.
