El Camino overcame a slow start and broke open a close game in the second half, pulling away for a 73-50 win over Orange Coast in the Neil Edwards tourney at Citrus College Sunday afternoon.
Orange Coast started the game with a 9-2 run, but El Camino rallied to take a 19-18 lead on a pair of free throws by SF Jamar Cannon with 7:23 left in the first half. Orange Coast came back to tie the score at 24 before SF Christen Clark scored in near the basket and PF Cameron Gray split two free throws to make it 27-24 at halftime.
Once the second half started, however, El Camino (7-1) just pulled away. A 3-pointer by PG Joshua Wilson sparked a 14-4 run that saw the lead balloon to 11 points after a 3-pointer by Gray. A basket by Ctr Julian Camper made it 57-43 with 7:14 left, and El Camino led by double digits the rest of the way.
Wilson finished with 15 pts, 9 rebs and 5 asts, earning a spot on the all-tournament team for the Warriors, who went 2-1 on the weekend, tying for second place. Clark came off the bench for 12 pts and 6 rebs, and Cannon had 10 pts, 6 rebs and 3 asts. Gray, fighting off an ankle injury he suffered Friday night in El Camino's win over Chaffey, had 9 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts, 2 steals and a blocked shot.
For Orange Coast (3-4), Ctr Darnell Banks, Ctr Leron Lacey and SG Jo Jo Trinidad each scored 8 pts, but no Pirate made it to double figures. Overall, OCC shot just 32% from the floor with 24 turnovers.
