Cuyamaca jumped out to a 27-7 lead early on as Chaffey missed 11 of their first 12 shots and shot just 22.5% from the floor in the first half. The Coyotes lead fluctuated between 15 and 20 most of the first half before a Phillip Scott three at the buzzer made the halftime score 40-28 Cuyamaca.
Chaffey rallied to close the gap to 44-40 in the first 5 minutes of the second half, and later took their first lead of the game on a pair of FTs by Pace at 62-61 with 5:11 to play. Cuyamaca stuck around, trailing just 72-70 with 34.5 secs left, but 4 FTs by Pace and 2 by PG Gerald DeVance secured the win for the Panthers.
In addition to Pace, top players for Chaffey included SF Tony McFadden (12 pts, 9 rebs), SG Victor Michael (13 pts incl 3 threes) and 3rd G Phillip Scott (12 pts, 4 asts).
