Santa Barbara pulled away late for an 82-71 win over Los Angeles Valley Wednesday night in a WSC crossover game in Valley Glen.
Santa Barbara (2-3) led most of the game, and held a narrow lead for most of the second half before finally pulling away in the final minutes.
PG Pablo Miranda scored on a 3-point play and hit a 3-point field goal to give the Vaqueros a 17-12 lead. LA Valley (0-4) rallied to take a 23-21 lead on a jumper by SF Andrew Estes, but SBCC re-established a 5-point lead after a 3-pointer by SF Michael Failla with just under two minutes to go in the first half.
The Monarchs scored the final five points of the first half to even the score, 37-37, at the break. And Valley held a narrow 43-42 advantage early in the second half.
Then Santa Barbara went on a 9-0 run, taking a 51-43 lead after another three-pointer by Failla. The Vaqueros held a narrow lead the rest of the game until Failla hit another three to push the margin to 11 at 79-68 with 2:22 left. PF Michael Hansen made two free throws after he was fouled attempting a putback, making it 81-68 with 1:36 and putting the Vaqueros in control.
Hansen led Santa Barbara with 17 pts and he added 7 rebs. Failla came off the bench for 13 pts, including 4 threes, and had 5 rebs. Miranda was outstanding for SBCC with 12 pts on 4-for-6 from the floor while dishing out a game-high 7 asts. SF Jalani Davis had 9 pts, 10 rebs and 4 asts.
For LA Valley, PF Alex Smith had a double-double with 22 pts and 13 rebs, and he also had 3 blocked shots. Estes came off the bench for 21 pts, including 4 three-pointers. SG Ginno Soliman had 11 pts and Ctr Nathaniel Boykin had 9 pts plus a game-high 14 rebs and 4 asts.
