After a slow start, West LA finished the first half with a 14-2 run and took over the game in the second half for a 43-23 win over Cuyamaca at the SoCal Fall JUCO Shootout.
Cuyamaca jumped out to an early 10-3 lead and seemed to be primed to pull what seemingly would have been a bit of an upset.
But then West LA, outscoring Cuyamaca 14-2 the rest of the first half to lead, 17-12, at the break. And that run continued in the second half as West LA started the half with a 13-2 run to lead, 30-14, and take complete control.
It was a low-scoring game and nobody for either team scored in double figures, but all 11 West LA players scored at least two points. Darius Middleton led the Wildcats with 8 pts, while Sammie Archer had 7 pts and 4 rebs. Off the bench Brandon Hood had 5 pts, 3 asts and 2 steals while Brandon Yamada had 6 pts, 2 asts and 2 steals.
John Scales made both of his field goal attempts and they were both 3-pointers for a total of 6 points, which led Cuyamaca. Kendal Kirkland had 4 pts, 3 rebs and 3 asts. But Cuyamaca shot just 20.5% from the floor and 25% from the free throw line.
