Jonathan Henderson scored 20 pts and added 7 rebs and 6 asts, and Faruk Oyalade posted a double-double with 14 pts and 11 rebs as Pasadena raced past Mt. San Jacinto, 70-54, at the SoCal Fall JUCO Jamboree.
Pasadena led by as many as 8 points in the first half, but Mt. San Jacinto stayed close and narrowed the gap to a single point at halftime when Donte Walker made a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the first half to make it 30-29.
But in the second half, Pasadena pulled away. A slam dunk by Jaryn Taylor pushed the lead to double-digits at 39-29. A 3-pointer by Keith Langston II pushed the Pasadena led to 16 points at 50-34 with about 7 minutes left to go.
Mt. San Jacinto cut the deficit to single digits one last time when Tre Hunter's 3-pointer with 2:30 left made it 58-49. But Oyalade scored off a pass from Joshua Williams and Henderson drasined a 3-pointer for Pasadena. Then Oyalade scored on a putback of his own miss to restore the 16-point margin at 65-49 and assure the Lancers of the victory.
Henderson made 8 of his 14 shot attempts for his game-high 20 pts, and his 6 asts were also game-high. Oyalade was 4-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the line for his 14 pts, and his 11 rebs were game-high. Williams came off the bench for 16 pts, and Langston had 10 pts, 4 rebs and 3 asts.
For Mt. San Jacinto, Sam Williams had a very strong game with 18 pts, 6 rebs and 5 blocked shots. But he was the only Eagle to score in double digits. Hunter had 9 pts, 4 rebs and 3 asts. Devin Shallowhorn came off the bench for 7 pts and 6 rebs.
