Vaughn Autry scored 15 pts and added 4 rebs and 4 asts, and three of his teammates scored in double digits for West Hills in a 63-56 win over Imperial Valley at the SoCal Fall JUCO Jamboree at Cerritos College.
West Hills took a 24-14 lead midway through the first half. Imperial Valley cut the deficit to just three points at the break to trail, 30-27, but never quite caught up. West Hills pushed its lead back to double digits at 39-29 and led, 42-31, with about 9 minutes left after a 3-pointer by Josh Ault.
Imperial Valley cut the margin to five points at 44-39 after Geric Leath scored on a 3-point play - his third and-one of the game. West Hills pushed its lead out to 12 points at 53-41 after a 3-pointer by Autry with 4:46 left. Imperial Valley got within 5 points once again at 61-56 in the final minute, but Teshawn King-Dunbar scored on a driving lay-up to make it 63-56 to clinch the win for the Falcons.
Autry led the winners with his 15 pts, which came on 5-for-9 shooting and included 3 three-pointers. Darren Buckles had 14 pts and 7 rebs. Cody Brice just missed a double-double with 10 pts and a game-high 9 rebs, and King-Dunbar came off the bench for 10 pts and a game-high 6 asts.
For Imperial Valley, Leath had a superb game with a game-high 25 pts. But he was the only player on his team to score in double digits. Prescott Evans scored 9 pts and Jayvon Stone scored 8 pts and grabbed 3 steals. Brandon Martinez had 5 pts and a team-high 5 rebs, and Richard Stamps dished out a team-high 5 asts.
