MVP CYNTHIA COOPER IS ONE OF THREE COMETS NAMED TO WNBA'S FIRST TEAM
All-WNBA Team Named

NEW YORK, Aug. 27, 1988 -- The WNBA announced today that Cynthia Cooper of the Houston Comets was a unanimous selection to the 1998 All-WNBA First Team presented by Bud Light.

For the second consecutive season, Cooper received the maximum number of First Team votes. She is joined on the First Team by Cleveland's Suzie McConnell Serio at guard, Phoenix's Jennifer Gillom at center and Houston's Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson at the forward position.

Cooper received 225 points, while Swoopes collected 200 points and Gillom received 189 points. Thompson and McConnell Serio received 152 and 127 points, respectively.

The All-WNBA Second Team consists of Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie (147 points) at center, Charlotte's Andrea Stinson (107 points) at guard, New York's Teresa Weatherspoon (99 points) at guard, Cleveland's Eva Nemcova (90 points) at forward and Detroit's Cindy Brown at forward.

Bud Light will present each member of the First Team with a check for $10,000 and each member of the Second Team with $5,000.

The 45-member voting panel consisted of 13 national media, as well as local media who cover the WNBA regularly from each of the league's ten markets. Players named to the 1998 All-WNBA First and Second Teams were selected by position. Points were awarded on a 5-3 basis.
