As a freshman at Huntington High in 1997, Larry earned All-Conference and All-State honors in cross country. With his 7th place finish at the state cross country meet he was the first freshman in 19 years to be named to the WV All-State team. After his Freshman year, Larry would only loose three more races.  Larry would again earn All-Conference, All-Region, and All State honors his last three years in high school.  He finished 11th at the State meet as a Sophomore, and 3rd as a Junior. After his Sophomore year, Larry went undefeated in West Virginia. As a senior in 2000, Larry won the WV State Cross Country Meet. In track Larry was the 1999 State champion in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:21. His high school personal bests include:

    Larry has the 11th fastest 8k cross country person best time in Morehead State History, with his performance at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships last year (25:51.9). That race he also earned his second 2nd Team All-Conference honor with a 14th place finish. In 2001 Larry finished in 12th at the OVC Championships. In track, Larry earned his first All-Conference Award in the Distance Medley Relay as a freshman. In 2002 he picked up his second All Conference title in the 3000m Steeple Chase with a  third place finish in the OVC Championship Meet at SEMO.  His college personal bests include:
