Both the Morehead State men and women’s cross country teams had solid showings over the weekend at the Queen City Invitationl held at Mt. Airy Forest in Cincinnati.

The Eagle men finished second and were led at the 8K event by sophomore Josh Sheets, who cracked the top-10 (6th) with a time of 26:22. Following Sheets was freshman Adam Stanley (8th place/26:52), sophomore James Clements (9th/27:08), freshman Vic McHenry (12th/27:22) and fellow classmates Jose Solis (15th/28:05) and Kevin Cory (16th/28:09). “It’s good to see our freshman continuing to grow and learn how to race the 8,000 meter distance,” said Head Coach Dan Lindsey. “All of our guys were within a minute of each other so that is something we are proud of.”

Senior Karen Lutes bounced back from a sub-par performance at the Commodore Classic last weekend and the MSU women’s team finished fourth. Lutes finished sixth on Friday, finishing the 5,000-meter event in 18:57. “It was nice to see her respond from the week before,” said Lindsey. “For her to be running under 19 minutes this early in the season is a good sign.” Following Lutes for the Lady Eagles was junior Alessa Velez (21st/19:55) and freshmen Sarah McClellan (22nd/20:29), Aubrey Walker (26th/20:55) and Melissa Myers (38th/23:30).

Other members of the Eagles squad competed in Saturday’s MSU Invitational. Topping the Eagle finishers in the men’s race was freshman Alex Hagan in third in 16:08.45. Junior Brett Allen took fourth in 16:33.69, followed by senior Adam Rubman in fifth in 16:34.10, sophomore Patrick Hunley in seventh in 17:12.12 and sophomore Josh Anderson in ninth in 17:32.24. The Eagles will compete in the Cardinal Classic on Oct. 4th.
