A former MSU standout, Frank Gilvin is back for his second year as an assistant with the Eagles and Lady Eagles. He will primarily coach with the distance runners, and assist with team travel and recruiting. He also serves as the director of the MSU Cross Country Camp.

Gilvin ran both cross country and track for Morehead State for four seasons between 1991 to 1996, before graduating with a degree in business and humanities. The Morehead, Ky., resident earned all-conference honors in the 3000m steeplechase as a sophomore at MSU in 1994 and was an academic all-conference selection in 1994-95.

Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Gilvin began running track in the seventh grade and cross country in the 10th grade. As a junior at Southeastern High School in South Charleston, Ohio, he qualified for the Ohio State Track and Field Championships, before graduating in 1991. In addition, he earned three all-conference honors in cross country and all-county accolades twice. In track and field, he was an all-conference selection two years and named all-state in 1990. He also was team MVP twice in cross country and once in track and field.

Gilvin also has been active in the community. After graduating, he was a volunteer basketball coach for four years in the Morehead City league, and also with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Rowan County Middle School; helping the latter with its sixth grade girls’ team from 1998 to 2000. Gilvin works full-time as a paralegal at Legal Aid of the Bluegrass in Morehead.

He is not the only Gilvin affiliated with the MSU cross country and track and field program. His younger brother, Paul, is a senior on the 2001-02 team.

Gilvin is married to Tonya, and the couple has three young children, Trey, Austin, and Ryan.
