That's how a lot of people felt after they found out that Dale Earnhardt had died in the crash during the last lap of the Daytona 500. The race itself was great. Lots of passing and lead changes. Cars were shuffled around. There was even a big wreck (for those people that like that) which looked spectacular (and didn't wipe any of my guys out of the race) and nobody was seriously hurt. Tony Stewart got a concussion, but he has a hard head anyway so you knew he'd be fine. Then when Mikey took the checkered flag, well, everything seemed so perfect...
But it wasn't. I didn't hear about the death of the Intimidator until hours after the race when I was at dinner. It was one of those things that I will remember for the rest of my life. He was a larger than life figure, and NASCAR racing will never be the same...
I don't have much else to say about the race.
They're racing again next week.
