Pat enjoying 'retirement'
As the NRL's guest of honour at the Telstra Premiership launch at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Rafter said it had been three months since he picked up a racquet.
"And I'm really enjoying it," he said.
"I'm not really missing the hard work and the pressure. "Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse when I'm trying to train."
During his interview with MC Ray Warren, Rafter also said he would marry his girlfriend Lara Feltham.
The couple recently announced they were expecting their first child amid speculation over whether they would marry.
"There will come a time when we'll get married but just when that might be hasn't been decided yet," Rafter said.
The Australian of the Year also spoke of his love for rugby league and how he was looking to forward to spending a full season watching the Brisbane Broncos without having to worry about tennis.
