Elena Likhovtseva vs. Louise Latimer Tamarine Tanasugarn vs. Jennifer Hopkins bye vs. Nathalie Tauziat(2) This is a very difficult draw for Sandrine. Anne is defending semifinalist, Elena is a very solid grass player, and Nathalie is one of the best grasscourt players right now. Sandrine will play on Tuesday. 14/06/01 - Here are the unofficial seeds for Eastbourne: (1)Lindsay Davenport, (2)Amelie Mauresmo, (3)Nathalie Tauziat, (4)Amanda Coetzer, (5)Magdalena Maleeva, (6)Sandrine Testud, (7)Silvia Farina Elia, (8)Meghann Shaughnessy. 11/06/01 - Sandrine has withdrawn from Tashkent. It is a smart move for her, since she is going to be really busy the next couple of weeks. She is scheduled to compete in Eastbourne next week, where at the moment she is the #7 seed. Wimbledon now has 32 seeds, so Sandrine is in no worries of not being seeded. 04/06/01 - Sandrine is scheduled to complete in Tashkent next week, then Eastbourne, then Wimbledon, and then Fed Cup. She is currently ranked #17 and she is #13 in the Race to the Chase. 02/06/01 - Martina Hingis(1) def. Sandrine Testud(16) 6:1 2:6 6:2. This match was completely lopsided. In the first set, Martina was leading 0:5, when an egg was thrown on the court. This must have been a wake up call, as Sandrine began to play more agressive and won the second set 6:2. In the third set, Sandrine got broken right away and Sandrine had 00-40 on Martina's serve. She was not able to convert and 0:2 difference was too much for Sandrine to catch up. 01/06/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Elena Bovina 6:3 7:6[2]. This was a very tough match for Sandrine. In the first set, Sandrine was tied with Bovina 3:3, before a minor rain delay forced the players off the court for ten minutes. When they returned, Sandrine's experience allowed her to win the next three games relatively easily. In the second set, Elena broke right away and led 0:2. Sandrine continued to hold serve, but she could not break Bovina's serve until it was 4:5. After that, Sandrine finished off the match in a tiebreaker. Sandrine will face the #1 seed Martina in the next round. 31/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Tatiana Poutchek 6:4 6:0. In the round of 64, Sandrine jumped to a 2:0 lead, then Tatiana caught up to 2:2. Sandrine won the next two games to leads 4:2, and then Tatiana caught right back at 4:4. Sandrine then won 8 consecutive games to win the match very easily. Sandrine is playing very aggressively, controlling her matches. Sandrine will play Elena Bovina in the next round. Here is a quote from Sandrine on her attitude towards this tournament: French veteran Testud, who scored a rare win on Philippe Chatrier Court with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Tatiana Poutchek, said she going to kick back, relax and not worry about the pressure of playing in her home country this year. "I have no special objective this year. I want to enjoy myself on court because that has never been the case in the past. I reached the round of 16 once, but it always got very tense. This I decided I would be cool. After all, I've played 10 years. It's high time to do so." 29/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(16) def. Dawn Buth 6:1 6:1. Her first match at Roland Garros was a success. In the round of 128, Sandrine was just too good for Dawn. Her next opponent will be Tatiana Poutchek. 28/05/01 - Sandrine is in Martina's side of the draw. Venus Williams 3. Jennifer Capriati 4. Amelie Mauresmo 5. Serena Williams 6. Elena Dementieva 7. Conchita Martinez 8. Nathalie Tauziat 9. Amanda Coetzer 10. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 11. Kim Clijsters 12. Magdalena Maleeva 13. Justine Henin 14. Jelena Dokic 15. Meghann Shaughnessy 16. Sandrine Testud 24/05/01 - Maria Jose Martinez def. Sandrine Testud(3) 5:7 6:3 6:4. This is a very disappointing lose for Sandrine. Maria Jose is a talented, young teenager from Spain. Sandrine just did not have the energy to finish the match off in the third set. Sandrine is now going to the French Open. Good luck Sandrine. 23/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(3) def. Julia Vakulenko 6:0 6:4. It was an easy match, as expected. Julia is ranked outside the top 200 and could not match Sandrine's power and consistency. 22/05/01 - Sandrine Testud(3) def. Gala Leon Garcia 2:6 6:3 6:0. That was a very good win for her, since Gala was the defending champion. Sandrine now faces Julia Vakulenko in the round of 16. 21/05/01 - Sandrine is now competing in Madrid, the last tournament before the French Open. She is seeded third, behind Monica Seles and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario. 14/05/01 - Farina Elia def. Sandrine Testud(11) 6:1 1:6 6:3. A tough loss for Sandrine, since she will not be seeded for the French Open with this loss. However, she is still very high in the Race to the Chase and she is a top 16 player. She'll begin to improve in the rankings shortly, especially after the US Open. 12/05/01 - Farina Elia leads their head-to-head 2-1; however, Sandrine defeated her in the only clay match they had between each other. They play either on Monday or Tuesday. 12/05/01 - Sandrine is the #11 seed for Rome. She faces Silvia Farina Elia in the first round. This will be a very tough match. Gala Leon Garcia is also a threat in her section. She is in the same round of 16 section as Nathalie Tauziat, the 7th seed. 10/05/01 - Sandrine Testud lost to Jennifer Capriati 2:6 6:7[6]. The first set was dominated by Jennifer; however, in the second set, Sandrine was leading 5:3 and had a chance to even the match and force a third set. Unfortunately, Sandrine's unforced errors increased and Jennifer picked up her game. In the tiebreaker, Sandrine was always ahead and had a setpoint, before losing the match in a heartbreaker. 09/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Angeles Montolio 6:2 4:6 6:3. She did it. She got revenge for her lose to Angeles in Bol. It was a very tough match for both players, but Sandrine came out on top. She now faces the #3 seed, Jennifer Capriati, in the round of 16. Sandrine defeated Jennifer last year 6:3 6:4, but Jennifer is a new player this year. Good luck Sandrine. 08/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Marlene Weingartner 7:6[4] 6:2. She is in the same side of the draw as Jennifer Capriati, Angeles Montolio, and she faces Marlene Weingartner in the first round, again. 05/05/01 - Angeles Montolio def. Sandrine Testud 6:1 7:5. Sandrine did not have a good match. She was not patient enough and Angeles kept the ball in play. Congrats to Angeles for the win and too bad for Sandrine. Here is a quote from Sandrine: "I didn't play well and I wasn't moving well either. With her game on clay, you need to go for it and I wasn't aggressive enough. I missed two easy points in the second set on break point and I shouldn't have. But she played well, better than me today . I still think that coming here is a good preparation for the bigger tournaments and now I have Berlin and Rome to think about before going to Paris." 04/05/01 - Sandrine Testud def. Marlene Weingartner 4:6 6:1 6:2. A report on the match can be found in the article section of this website.
