Kings' Williams apologizes for slurs

Sacramento Kings point guard Jason Williams apologized Friday afternoon to the Asian-American community and Kings fans for his involvement in a verbal confrontation with Golden State Warriors' fans on Feb. 28.

The pressure had grown in recent weeks for Williams to issue a public apology even though he had already been fined $15,000 by the National Basketball Association for the incident.

In a written statement issued by the team, Williams said, "it was wrong to engage in a verbal confrontation with a fan. I did not intend any disrespect to the Asian community or any other community. The NBA has investigated the matter and I have been fined. I was wrong and I apologize."

According to a statement by the team, Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, along with Vice President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie, also met with Williams today. During the meeting, the statement said, it was made clear to Williams by the Kings' management that further "substantiated incidents will not be tolerated."

The team said there will be no further actions regarding this matter
