No TV timeout for Williams By Martin McNeal (Published March 10, 2001)

Kings point guard Jason Williams likes the Nike commercial currently airing that features himself, Toronto all-star Vince Carter and Los Angeles Clippers rookie Darius Miles displaying their ballhandling wizardry. The commercial shows the NBA players in concert with other ballhandling specialists performing to a beat. It was choreographed by dance, movie and Broadway star Savion Glover.

Williams said the filming wasn't all fun, because it took about five hours. "Plus, I didn't get to see the Super Bowl," said Williams, a sports nut. "And I almost missed my flight back from L.A." Williams said he's done another commercial that he likes even more.

"It's going to stir some stuff up," Williams said, smiling. "It's racially motivated."

Williams pointed to Kings guard Bobby Jackson and said, "That's what I look like in the beginning of the commercial, his complexion. In the end, all you see is that," Williams said, pointing to the tattoos spelling "W-h-i-t-e- b-o-y" on his knuckles.

Jackson said he didn't think the powers-that-be will allow the commercial to be aired.

"It's on the way," Williams said. "Give it about two weeks, I bet."

Williams acknowledged that he has attempted to stay away from the racial comparisons that often are made by people who say he has "a black game."

Why now?

"The whole thing is about freedom, you know what I mean?" he said. "It's pretty much saying forget all of y'all who are tripping about this racial stuff. Really, the league is about whether or not you can play.

"I speak for about 20 seconds (during the commercial). And basically, I say that I want to meet the man who said there is a black game and a white game.

"That's crazy. And then I wipe off all my tattoos, one by one, and I wipe my face (digitally). Oh, yeah, it's going to be on the edge."
