Course Name: Knockanally Golf Club Holes: 18 Yardage: 6424 SSS: 71

Knockanally Golf Club Host to the Irish International Professional Matchplay Championship 1987/88/89 and the Irish Club Professional Championship 1994. It is an Irish old world golf course, remnants of old Irish estate. Most golf courses ease you into the difficult holes but Noel Lyons, who designed, built and manages Knockanally, created a 1st hole which will have the faint-hearted back in the bar before they play the 2nd. No less a person than Christy O'Connor Senior described the hole as the most difficult opening hole in golf.

Housed in a 19th century Palladian mansion, The clubhouse (Which is almost 200 years old and is the subject of a preservation order)commands panoramic views of the rich limestone plains of Kildare, with the back 9 of this parkland course sweeping gently down to a stream and a backdrop of stately mature trees. The stream feeds 'the alligator farm', a pond which has claimed many a wayward approach shot to the 10th, 11th and 13th greens.

Knockanally Golf and Country Club enjoys a proud and well founded reputation for hospitality and enjoyment of the game. The craic can frequently be mighty.

Societies and corporate groups are always welcome.

Hot Shot Simon

The biggest day in the TK golfing calendar took place at Knockanally Golf Club on Saturday 7th July 2001.It was of course "Captains Day" and we had the biggest turn out so far this year with 35 members and guests.

So at 10. O'clock James Daly (this years Captain) tee-ed off and unusually it went straight down the middle, but he didn't disappoint us because that was his best shot all day! .

Hot shot Simon hit every fairway and 19 GREENS (ask him he might explain) bringing in a score of 38 points off 19 handicap.

Newcomer on the day was former Irish International footballer Frank Mulhall who took quite a long time to realise that he didn't have to wait for the referees whistle before he could hit the ball! . In his post-game interview he said, "the pitch was too big and the ball was too small.

As is the custom we all retired to the 19th hole for a few well-earned refreshments and off course, to do the prize giving. One other prize, which was given, was a "lifetime achievement award" to Mick Murphy for service above and beyond the call of the Society and in his acceptance speech he said," I don't know what to say!!!"

On behalf of the committee I would like to thank all who turned up, especially those who kindly sponsored a prize and all of our guests on the day, hopefully we'll see you all at the next outing on 18th Aug in Roundwood.

Pos Name Comments
1st Simon McKeon 38pts off a 19 H/Cap. And played the course both ways ?????
2nd Robert Emmet 38pts Another good score
3rd Graham Hoey 36pts. Not a bad score considering the extra H/Cap of playing the round with Mick Gately
4th Dara Voyles 35pts. Nice to see the Lesson's are starting to pay off

We also had a visitor’s prize, and this went to
Ciaran Dorrity............With 36pts.
Not a bad score at all considering he played the round with "Rubber-man" Downey.
It's good to see that the Dorrity family can produce at least one good golfer.... Only kidding Sean !!!!!!

Plenty Of Other Notable Incidents Took Place, Here Are Just A Few.

1 wheel Mick has a new jumper
and also finally has a trolley with 2 wheels that stay on.

World traveller Willie Rogers slept in the car on the way to the course,
before tee off in the clubhouse,
and for most off his round also.

Robbo kept the Galway tradition going
by beating James again.
