Cara Croninger (c)2001
|
Cara Croninger's work is
exhibited at galleries and museums throughout the U.S., Europe,
and Japan. A self taught
painter and sculptor, Cara Croninger began creating handmade,
one-of-a-kind jewelry in
1972 because she liked "the personal contact of sculpture that you wear".
Her pioneering
work in plastics and resins has earned her the reputation
of being one of the most
innovative designers of our times. Cara's ability to transform
these materials into beautiful
pieces of sculpture make her unique in her feild.
Trademark pieces include
chunky bead necklaces in rich colors, armfuls of frosted thin-
sliced acrylic bangles,
and paper-thin earrings that come alive when light passes through
them. The multi-colored
abstract sculptures which she pours and molds herself translate
and develop into carefully
designed rhythmical compositions that find their essence in
celebrating the creative
force of nature.
Croninger's work is regularly
featured in major publications including Elle, Vogue, Mirabella,
and Harpers Bazaar.
She has collaborated with designers Issey Mikyaki, Geoffrey Beene,
and Kansai Yamamoto among others.
Her work is in the permanent collection of the
American Craft Museum in
New York City, and featured in Susan Lewin's book "One of A
Kind, American Art Jewerly
Today," and Deanna Farneti Cera's "Jewels of Fantasy." |
