Wave Ripples!
Ripples, ripples, ripples - that's pretty much the entire Strat and Sed course! So we all know how they look in cross section, and how they look on a bedding plane, but do we really understand them?
I took these photos of a little freshwater creek running into the Bay of Biscay in Urdubai (I think!), Spain.
This is the creek - you can see that the water is in the upper flow regime - it is creating antidunes, and forcing itself to fountain over them!
Here is the same part, from the side, showing the antidunes even more distinctly.
And this is further up the creek, where it is a bit wider, as it is coming around a bend. You can see the individual wave crests!
