This is along the north coast of the Basque Country, in a little town called Armintza. These fantastic folds were created when a weakness occured along a bedding plane (specifically, here, along a bed of pillow lavas), and and entire continental shelf slid down over itself in a massive slump. We measured fold axes and determined that the flow direction was southwest - in relation to the present day orientation of the rocks. This was pretty amazing to see - if you look closely, you can see Domi and his pogo stick, which gives you an idea of the scale of these folds!
