Prince Hamzah, world leaders pay tribute to Obuchi    

TOKYO (Petra) — HRH Crown Prince Hamzah on Thursday deputised for His Majesty King Abdullah at the funeral of the late Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi in Tokyo. The Crown Prince laid a wreath at the coffin during the funeral service and attended by delegations from countries around the world. American, European and Asian leaders, among others, attended the funeral.

A gun salute marked the funeral of the late Obuchi who had played a major role in some of Japan's most remarkable economic achievements. After the funeral, Prince Hamzah attended a reception hosted by Japan's Prime Minister Yosihiro Mori in honour of the delegations of foreign dignitaries , and conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah's condolences and those of the Jordanian people to the Obuchi family. After the ceremonies, Prince Hamzah left Tokyo for home.

Prince Hamzah celebrates 20th birthday today (March 29th)    

AMMAN (J.T.) — His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hamzah Ben Al Hussein celebrates his 20th birthday today. Prince Hamzah was born in Amman on March 29, 1980 to His Majesty King Hussein Ben Talal and Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein. Prince Hamzah has four brothers and six sisters. His Royal Highness was officially named Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on February 7, 1999 by His Majesty King Abdullah upon the death of His Majesty King Hussein.

Crown Prince Hamzah completed his elementary education in Amman, and later received the General Certificate for Secondary Education from Harrow in the United Kingdom. As a student, the Crown Prince was awarded several prizes, including the "Dome of the Rock Award," by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in 1990, and the "History Prize" from Harrow. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, King Talal, his father, King Hussein, his brother King Abdullah, and other members of the Royal family, Crown Prince Hamzah attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, passing out in December 1999 as a commissioned officer in the Jordan Arab Army.

He was awarded the Sandhurst Overseas Sword, awarded to an overseas cadet who is considered by the Commandant to be the best in his course. He was also awarded the HRH Prince Saud Abdullah Prize which is given to an overseas cadet who has obtained the best aggregate mark in academic subjects. His Royal Highness is currently partaking in advanced military training through a rigorous troop leaders' course in the United Kingdom aimed at the development of skills and education of future troop leaders.

Crown Prince Hamzah has been awarded various medals in Jordan and abroad. He received the Grand Cordon of the Order of Al Nahda in August 1998, the Grand Cordon of the Order of Al Kawkab Al Urduni in November 1995, and the Al Hussein Gold Medal for Achievement in July 1995. He also received the Bahraini Medal of Ahmad Al Fateh in August 1999.

In August 1999, King Abdullah entrusted Crown Prince Hamzah to oversee the affairs of the Royal Academy for Islamic Civilisation Research, the Al al Bait Foundation, by naming him higher chairman of the foundation. The Royal Academy for Islamic Civilisation Research is an independent, non-governmental foundation which aims to foster research on Islam.

His Royal Highness Prince Hamzah accompanied King Hussein as well as King Abdullah on a number of official visits throughout the region and the world. He currently attends local, regional and international conferences in his capacity as Crown Prince and has deputised for King Abdullah on a number of missions abroad.

His Royal Highness is the Honorary President of the Basketball Federation. He has attended training courses in marksmanship, skydiving, first aid and military tactics. Crown Prince Hamzah is also a qualified scuba diver and paratrooper and enjoys fencing, shooting, judo, fishing, skiing, water-sports and flying fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

Crown Prince Congratulates Ireland Prince Hamzah sent a cable to Irish President  Mary MacAleese congratulating her on her country's national day March 16 2000, 10:50 GMT

AMMAN (Petra) - HRH Crown Prince Hamzah, the Regent, sent a cable to Irish President Mary MacAleese congratulating her on her country's national day.  The Crown Prince wished McAleese continued good health and happiness and the Irish people further progress and prosperity.

As some of you might know Hamzah is BACK!! Well he was sworn in as regent while King Abdullah went to Saudi. He saw the King off with Prince Fasel.

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hamzah inaugurated the Jordan Basketball Federation's (JBF) 1st International Tournament on Tuesday which has brought together nine top teams in the March 14-21 event.

Jordan's top three teams, Orthodoxi, Jazira and Wihdat, are taking part in the event, marking the birthday of JBF Honorary president Prince Hamzah. Jordanian champions Orthodoxi met Saudi Arabia's Uhud in the late match. From Petra.

 AMMAN — Nine teams have confirmed their participation in the 1st international tournament marking the birthday of HRH Crown Prince Hamzah, the honorary president of the Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF). The JBF held the draw for the March 14-21 event in which Jordan's top three teams — Orthodoxi, Jazira and Wihdat — will be taking part.

The Kingdom's reigning champions Al Orthodoxi were drawn in Group 2 which also includes UAE's Wasl, Qatar's Ahli, Saudi Arabia's Uhud, and Jordan's Wihdat. Jazira were drawn in Group 1 alongside Syria's Wihdeh, Kuwait's Sahel and Yugoslavia's Sloga. Al Jazira and Al Orthodoxi fought close matches in the fight for the country's First Division title.

Jazira ended the Orthodoxi-Ahli dominance on the basketball scene when they won the First Division basketball title in 1997. Al Orthodoxi has won the title in 1998 and 1999. All matches will be held at Prince Hamzah Hall at Al Hussein Youth City. The 7,000-seat capacity hall was opened before last summer's Pan-Arab Games. The JBF is also now preparing for the first-ever Asian mini-basketball event bringing together the future basketball stars of the continent.   Petra.

CROWN PRINCE ARRIVES IN LIBYA Tripoli, Jan. 22,(Petra)--

His Highness Crown Prince Hamzah Bin Al-Hussein arrived in Tripoli carrying a message from His Majesty King Abdullah II to Libyan President Muamar Qadhafi. His Highness was received at the airport by Libyan Foreign Minister Omar Al-Muntasir and other senior officials. Prince Hamzah is accompanied by His Majesty's Advisor for Tribal Affairs Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad and other officials.

CROWN PRINCE MEETS SAADI QADHAFI Tripoli, Jan. 22,(Petra)--

His Highness Crown Prince Hamzah Bin Al-Hussein met at his residence with Colonel Saadi Qadhafi Son of Libyan President Muamar Qadhafi.

The meeting touched on bilateral ties between the two countries and scopes of further enhancing them in all areas in addition to issues of common interest. The meeting was attended by His Majesty's Advisor for Tribal Affairs Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad.
