MAGICAL TOOLSThis page is of course dedicated to both the creating and using of various Magical Tools. But however, it is important for you to know that the most important Magical Tool is your own mind and will. Your mind is the ONLY necessary tool for you to succeed at spellcrafting. Thats right, every other tool you may use is simply a focus! Of course you can enrich your magical experience by using your dagger, wand, etc, but these things aren't required for success. Developing your mind, through meditation and other mental exercises, is vastly more important to your ritual. The power comes from you and The Gods, it's important that you understand this before we go on. THE RITUAL DAGGERThe Dagger/Athame/Knife is definitely the most famous of all ritual tools, seems like most everyone has one, and much has been said about keeping it safe and wrapped in silk, never using it for mundane purposes, don't let blood touch it,etc. I'm sure you've heard these tales. Well, if you truly believe this, then it's true for you, and if you slip up and get it dirty(so to speak) it may interfere with your spell success until you cleanse it. But, however, if you were to look back into time, you would most likely notice that very few people (Druid or otherwise) could afford the luxury of having more than one knife. So it makes sense that they would have used it for everything. This would have included skinning a deer/fish,to cutting up food and herbs and even defending oneself from harm. In a magical sense though, the more you use any item, the more it gets permiated with your own spiritual essence, becoming a part of you. That is what helps you more magically, than keeping it safe. You should use it often, but don't let others use it! And before you use it in a ritual, simply bless it with a prayer, and oil it with an oil that you only use for the purpose of blessing. This will remove any negativity that may have latched on to your blade. As well as preventing rust! It was likely the case in ancient times, that there was a special dagger that was kept by possibly the High Priest or King, for use in important community rituals, but for now we are talking about solitary use. Your ritual dagger is used for commanding and manipulating power, and can direct energy to realms where normal blades can't go. It can be interchangeable with your wand. If you have the skill to carve the hilt of the dagger yourself, all the better, but at least get a woodburner and put some personal design onto the hilt. Then take a drop of your own blood and rub it into that symbol and let it dry, then seal the wood and its ready for use.

WANDSThe wand is a tool that is used to project your energy to a place, thing, person or dimension. You can make special wands for various purposes such as: healing, love, money, etc. A wand should be slender and of a comfortable length. It can be made of any type of wood you like, Oak and Apple are my favorites, some people even make them out of copper pipes, I feel wood is better. It is very important that you make the wand yourself, not buy one, and that you find the branch or stick, not cut it from a living tree. This means that it could take a while to find the perfect wand, but its well worth the effort! You can then decorate your wands with Ogham runes, or anything your heart tells you. Let the wood and the circumstances you found the branch under be your guide. Some times the Gods are sending you a message by letting you find your wand in a particular place or way. And yes, blood it before you seal it!THE STAFFUsually standing anywhere from 4 to 6ft long, the Staff can be a very potent tool, it should made in the same way you would make a wand, but on a larger scale of course. Decorate it as you would a wand. One of the most important uses for the Staff is the measuring out of the ritual circle. Find the middle of the area you wish to do your ritual in, then stick the staff in the ground about 6 inches, loop your magical cord(we'll go into that later) around it. The cord should be at least 9 feet long, but a longer cord could be used for a bigger circle, then simply follow the cord to its end and walk the circle sunwise, using your dagger to mark a line into the ground. You can also set up quick wards by forcefully pounding your staff into the ground and imaging it as being the axis mundi,Ygdrasil or the world tree. Imagine then that a sphere of energy(as big as you need it) surrounds you, above, below, and in every direction, nothing harmful can penetrate.THE CAULDRONThis tool has many uses, such as scrying, making potions and oils, even mundane things such as cooking. It is a very powerful symbol of the Goddess, and transformation from one state of being to another. One way to use it in your ritual is to brew a hot beverage in it, to be consumed by those taking part in your ritual, or just your friends. It makes a great "ale" for cakes and ale. As your drinking it, you imagine that you've been purified, cleansed of all negativity, and youve transformed, like a pheonix. This is a ritual in its self, and can be varied for attracting love, money, health, etc. You of course need to do your homework to determine what herbs, wine, juice, etc, to use for your purposes. While your brewing anything in your cauldron, you need to strongly visualize your intent, imagine the magic has already happened and your viewing the results! |
THE CORDThis is a flexible string of a quality that will not stretch, it is divided into 9 or more sections of equal length through knots. You should of course make this yourself, out of a natural material, like wool or leather. The best way I've found is to take 9 very thin strips of the appropriate length and braid them together into one cord. Make a loop at one end . Then divide it into at least nine equal sections, but the total number of knots should be divisable by three. After completion you can wear it around your waist over your robes. Knot magic, done using your cord, is very potent. You can even make cords of various colors, for different purposes, just like you would in candle magic. Energy can be stored in the knots of your cord. For instance, call on the name of a Diety and imagine that God's energy coming down in a beam of light, into the cord, then tie a knot and repeat the process. Then later when you need extra magical energy for a spell, there it is, just untie a knot. You can do the same with Lunar energy,Solar energy, etc.THE DRUIDS EGGThe Druids Egg is a smooth egg-shaped stone and can be made from any mineral including glass that is small enough to fit into your pocket. Look around for one that is right for you. Use the egg for developing single-mindedness,patience, concentration, and keeping your focus in general. You gaze on the egg until distractions die away. This egg is also called the Serpents stone and was often seen in the company of the Gods. It represents new life, fertility, eternal rebirth, the shedding of ones bad habits or outdated ways in favor of a new and better life. Meditate on the stone as often as you can, let it tell you its mysteries.ROBESYou should have several, and they should vary from very light summer robes, to heavy winter robes, and your robes should also reflect your own personality and interests. For example, your robes could be a sarong, or even a fancy nightgown if you like,or even your birthday suit. Whatever type of robes you choose, they should be only worn for rituals, because unlike some of the other tools, robes are meant to tell your mind and the universe, that you are now in the magical mode! You need to make this yourself of course, if possible, but I know that everyone doesn't sew. Do your best, and if you need to, buy one.THE FEATHERED CLOAK |
