Welcome to Althorpe

We made a day trip by coach to Althorpe. I have to say
I had a better time seeing the scenery around
Althorpe than actually visiting the place itself.
The day was nice, but not what I had expected.
You can only visit certain parts of the house itself because
Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer has residence
on the right wing. What we did see of the house was grand.

We walked around the grounds and they are quite impressive.
I loved seeing the sheep grazing about.

Then it was on to the stables which are now a museum.
Within this part there is a snack bar, gift shop(which is
very expensive). Along the right side is various rooms to visit.
These contain her wedding memories (photos, little gifts etc.)
I loved seeing her bridal gown with the tiara and shoes.
Another room contained a film of her good works
for the many charities she worked with. I couldn't even
get near that area. One area was devoted to her
beautiful outfits. And the last one was the many condolense books
that people around the globe signed.

We then walked around the island. To see the serenity of it all
was so comforting, but I really don't feel
Diana would have liked to be there. Seemed so lonely just like
she had been for many years.

I spent a little time sitting and just looking around. The memorial for
Diana was very nice and there were a few tributes and flowers
left here. This was a nice place to allow people to
express their feelings.

All in all I have to say that I don't believe Diana
herself would have felt comfortable, but it was nice.
The saddest part was knowing that after her divorce from
Prince Charles she asked her brother to return to Althorpe
and she was denied that chance due to publicity.
