WELCOME TO HACKNEY LONDON ENGLAND
Dave and I lived in Hackney for 9 months after I moved
over to England. We lived in a flat
that Dave shared with his family. Hackney is a suburb of London.
This is a picture of Webb Estate, the flat that we lived in.
If you look to the left of the picture and find the
second floor (they call it the first as the first floor is the ground floor)
find the 2nd balcony up. That balcony was off our living room and we had
the entire section to the left end of the building. That big beautiful
cherry tree was outside our bedroom window and was so sweet smelling.
Living in Hackney was hard as we were sandwiched between two Jewish Synogogues
and much of the shops in the area were run by many different cultures. The one great
thing behind our flat was the marshes and the river.
This is a picture of one of the many narrow boats on the river.
This is a picture of a swan family that we watched grow up
on the river. The baby cygnets were so cute and fluffy. One thing
about swans....they choose a partner for life. How romantic.
These are the marshes behind the flat. We used to pack a picnic lunch
and go to the benches to eat. The sites from there are magnificant and
I have to say Dave and I's favorite place. We visit there when we
go back to the area.
One thing very popular in England is the double decker buses. This was taken at the bus
stop outside of our flat. The usual 253 bus is a regular
bus that transports all over London and many times when Dave wrote to me
in the states he wrote to me on that bus on his way to and from work.
We both wanted to leave Hackney to escape Dave's past life
and to start a new life together as he shared the flat with his former wife.
It was hard to live there with the population so high, and making friends was
hard as there were so many different cultures. We did make friends with a couple
who were Indian who owned the local shop. We visit them
when we go back to the area.
