KoRn

Born: 1993 in Huntington Beach, CA.
From: Bakersfield, CA.
Background information:

KoRn was formed from the seperation of 2 bands. SexArt [which had Jonathan Davis as vocalist] and L.A.P.D. [which had Munky, Fieldy, David, and Brian (he only played live) and Richard Morales (vocalist)]. Munky and Head were at a show in Bakersfield...and they saw SexArt performing. They were getting ready to leave when they heard Jonathan sing. so they turned around and watched the whole show. Afterwards Munky and Head asked him if he wanted to join their band. Jonathan went to a psychic(his aunt) to find out if he should and the psychic said "he would be stupid if he didn't try". So a week later Jonathan went down and tried out and KoRn was formed. There are a lot of stories of how KoRn's name came up. One story is a rumor. It is rumored to have come from Kiddie pORN. Another story is Jonathan was at a party, and he overheard two gay men talking about eating each others ass's out. Well when they were going at it, the guy getting eating out had diarrhea and shit in the other guys mouth. When he opened his mouth there was a little kernel of corn on his tongue. So when Jonathan told that story to everyone they would get close to being sick. So when time to decide for a name, Jonathan used a black crayon, and wrote KoRn (with his wrong hand) to symbolize how a kid would write it. And the last story that I know about is when they were deciding on a name...a deranged KoRn came into jonathan's head. When Jonathan suggested the name the other members were all for it. After they decided on a name they went straight to work on making music. They wrote demo versions for songs such as "Blind" (which is actually written by SexArt when Jonathan was with them), "Daddy", "Predictable", and "Alive" (which is today's Need To). KoRn went from club to club trying to get signed. They finally got signed to Epic Records. After releasing "KoRn" in 1994 KoRn toured in support of that album. They played around 368 shows. They opened for such bands as Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, KMFDM, and Cypress Hill. After two years of touring, KoRn went into the studio and recorded "Life Is Peachy". They went back out on tour with The Urge and Pharcyde. They even picked up a new band called Limp Bizkit. KoRn also went on 1997's Lollapalooza festival. It was cut short because Munky had gotten sick from a small case of the deadly viral meningitis. After Munky fully recovered they began work on "Follow The Leader". After "Follow" was released they went on a new trek..."The KoRn Kampaign". And also they started up the Family Values Tour. KoRn even made up their own record label called Elementree. They started it up because they were really happy with the fact that they got Limp Bizkit a record deal. So they started up a record label to get "good" bands heard. They already have 3 bands signed on (as of Nov. 29, 98). Orgy, Videodrone (originally Cradle of Thorns), and Fear No Mob. KoRn is also a big fan of rap music. They occasionally play rap songs live. The whole purpose of KoRn picking arena's to play live in for the Family Values tour was because KoRn is a huge fan of Arena shows. Jonathan says "I hate seeing kids bake in the hot sun all throughout the show. So they can come here...not be bothered by the sun and have a great time". KoRn is now known as bringing Arena Rock back. As for Elementree Records, Fieldy has said that "We are planning on releasing a compilation cd of all these demos that bands have sent us to try to get on our record label." KoRn has been voted the best band of the 90's because of the many ways they think of to be closer to their fans and putting out great albums. KoRn has appeared on large festivals including Lollapalooza, Family Values, Big Day Out, and Woodstock.
