By the early 1900’s, La Maison Louis BERT had become one of the largest exporters of Bordeaux wines and had developed a reputation as a fine wine merchant.
During this period, the actual turnover in petit, cru bourgeois, and
grand cru classe wines had reached 1,500,000 bottles.
In the United States, the Louis BERT marques became very important within
our wine trade. Sales of their branded wines were indeed impressive and
the House of Louis BERT became a major supplier of classified growths
as this was always one of their strengths.
Founded in 1872, La Maison Louis BERT et Cie, quickly became a very
important negociant in the sales of Bordeaux wines.
In 1956 Ets. Aurelien Grenouilleau purchased 75% of la Maison Louis
BERT and eventually the remaining 25% were purchased in 1968. With the
conclusion of the purchase, Aurelien Grenouilleau became a major player in the worldwide market for all the wines of
Bordeaux including the Grand Cru and Grand Cru Classe.
Recently, Maison Jomere agreed with Michel Bauce, the Managing Directer
and major shareholder of Aurelien Grenouilleau to re-introduce a
limited selection of fine Bordeaux chateaux under the Louis BERT name.
The chateaux selected are located in 5 different areas and all produce
wines that are in the opinion of most wine experts under valued.
