I would like to welcome ‘Akasha's Realm’, ‘Sagitarius' World’ and "Project Sanctuary" to the "Sanctuary Project" Webring this month.
(If you look VERY closely you may see a "slight" similarity between the last name on the list and the actual name of the webring...this is ENTIRELY coincidental and nothing to do with me. I will say however that I form my friendships and allegences almost entirely on "gut instinct" and what I feel from the site owner of Project Sanctuary bodes very well indeed ....I trust this person and the site content, although my own area of knowledge is insufficiant to endorse their words personally at this time)
Another section has just been started here called "Pagan Puzzles", a link off-site to Crickets Corner where you will find some really nifty fun stuff, pagan parents, why not pay a visit and print them off for the kids on that long car journey??
Another "interesting and novel" thing here is a new slant on the Salem Witch Trials courtesy of National Geographic. Another off-site link puts YOU in the middle of the fears...try it and see.....for the record I got hanged twice and survived once!!
I am now hosting some really nice poems by Ishara on my site until she is able to place them on her own site which she is busily constructing. Sadly this may take a while as she is leaving us soon to go home and prepare for an operation, and may be off-line for a year....Ishara, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your stuff will be here for you when you return.

Twenty Five pages added to The Way of the Norse (one page for each Rune, the graphics are in place and the links set, I am now working on the text for each so might have that done by the end of this month)
A new section called "ONLINE BOOKS" has been added also, check it out for free books on esoteric subjects that I have found you..... ALL NEW WITCHES GO AND READ MALLEUS MALIFICARUM....this is an important book and will show you why we are hated and feared by others.
Have found some companies that will pay you money if you display a banner on your computer while you are online...I now have 2 or 3 running, earning me about $5 an hour...at 4 hours a day online it soon mounts up!!

The Lead Connection
Witches love candles and we use a lot of them. That makes the recent discoveries by scientists in several research laboratories in the US and Aus-tralia particularly critical for us.
The discovery? Candles can be a threat to your health! In October, 1999, Jerome Nriagu, a professor of environmental health sciences at the University of Michigan reported a study in which he found that candles with lead wicks can release between .5 and 327 micrograms of lead into the air in your home every hour that you burn them.
After five hours of burning in a room that meas-ured 12 feet by 12 feet by 10 feet high, the lead levels from some candles Professor Nriagu tested measured well over 1.5 micrograms per cubic meter. Compare that to the EPA recommendation of no more than 1.5 micrograms per cubic meter for am-bient air and you see that lead poisoning could be a serious danger for candle lovers.
Tests reported by the Australian Ministry of Con-sumer Affairs in September of 1999 indicate that some candles emit between 500 and 1000 micro-grams of lead per hour.
Lead poisoning effects the central nervous system, and the blood and cardiovascular system. It can cause brain damage in children and can lead to serious developmental delays and behavioral problems.
If the health threat isn't enough to cause concern, the amount of lead released from these candles also damages your house and your possessions, and insurance companies are becoming increasing aware of the danger and are refusing to cover the damages. Lead contamination is even making properties impossible to sell.
Checking Your Candles Most US manufacturers of candles voluntarily stopped using lead candle wicks in the early 1970', but since it's a voluntary ban, some candle makers in the US may still use them. More criti-cally, manufacturers in Mexico and China are known to still be using them, since the lead in the core of a wick slows the burning of the candle and keep the wick from falling over into the wax, which is sometimes a problem with the much safer cotton or paper wicks.
Both very inexpensive candles from stores that specialize in cheap imports and expensive, long-burning, scented candles from boutiques can be a risk. To minimize your risk, check each new can-dle before you light it. When you trim the wick to < inch, check inside the wick for a dark or metalic core or for a dark threading through the body of the wick. If you find signs of metal, don't burn the candle! Return it to the place of purchase for a re-fund.
Unbranded candles are the worst offenders, so try to find a safe, unscented name brand candle and stick with it. Write to the manufacturer of your favorite brand and ask for a list of ingredients in the candle and the wick, or a letter of assurance that the candles don't contain or produce as a by-product of burning any of the dangerous contami-nants in this article. If you get one, buy those candles n preference to any others.
In candles that you've already started burning, use a straight pin to open the top of the wick. You should be able to feel the "metal touching metal" grating sensation if there's lead in the wick. When you buy new candles, avoid those that are soft or oily, since the extra oils in those candles don't provide the support a paper or cotton wick needs and so they're more likely to have a metallic core wick. It's best to use unscented beeswax candles.
More Bad News
Lead may be the most prominent danger from candle burning, but it's far
from the only one. Recent studies are finding carcinogens in some of
the more expensive jar candles. The recent fad for scented
"aromatherapy" candles is inspiring can-dle manufacturers to include
scents and oils that contain chemicals that are unsafe to burn. Some
of those chemicals include benzine, polycylic aro-matic hydrocarbons,
toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, and naphthalene - some of the same
substances found in paints, laquers, and varnish removers that make them
dangerous to inhale.

Site Attacks
This month has seen a spate of Pagan Recourse Sites getting "hit" by people following another religeon that I wont name but am sure you can work out.
Two of these sites were known to me personally, one of them was mine!
My front page got hit and deleted which made the whole site unusable
for 8 hours while I repaired the damage..peak time here in the UK means lots
more dosh for the phone company
The other was Lady in Reds' site who has won an award from us this month
(we visted BEFORE her attack!!) and I believe she also has managed to repair
the damage. Her site URL is on my "Awards Given" page as usual
Kaizen's Word's of Wisdom
Following on from last months success of "Kaizen's Naming Ritual" and
"Tips for the New Witch" I have included a couple more tales from the
archives of Life
First my newest lesson.....when lighting a ciggerrette pay attention!!
This month I was concentrating on a chat in a chatroom (as you do),
while lighting up....I misjudged the distances and set light to my face!!
Up until this month I wore a full beard and moustache but alas no more!!
Acting with incredible speed (for a man of my age) I beat out the flames
before they spread to my eyebrows, but not before I lost the greater part
of the left hand side of a very respectable english style moustache and
Grizzly Adams type beard!!
After 2 minutes when I dared to open my eyes the cat was sitting on the arm
of the chair giving me a very quizical look that said "Why did you do that
then??" and "What does F!!K AARRGGH GERROFF OMPH EEK mean??".
Then as the aroma of scorched hair permiated the air it started sniffing
and giving me a look that said "Dont you EVER complain when I use the kitty
litter tray again!!....I never smell this bad!!"
Not panicking (I had an important interview two hours later) I went to shave
off the remains with my brand new electric razor (a birthday present from
Cerri), only to start shaving, get into a thick tangle of beard and have
the razor die on me...wrapping its 96 little circular cutting blades
inextricable around 96 hairs the tensile strength of which is similar to
steel piano wire...so there I am, half burnt with a razor stuck to my face
that wont let go, and an interview in less than 90 minutes!!..Now I decide
to read the instructions (I am 37, didnt bother, I know how to use a razor
..LOL), what do I see "CHARGE FOR 16 HOURS BEFORE USE"......AAARRRGGGHHH!!
Destiny dictates that I have to have a razor stuck to me for 16 hours??....
Now I'm starting to panic......I ride a motorcycle, and helmets aren't
designed to be worn with razors!! At which point the cat saunters into the
bathroom and says "Why have you got a razor stuck to your face??" and
"Have you been eating my catnip again, you're acting really strange today"
and sits down just out of kick range, knowing to within the millimetre
exactly how far I can move while restrained by 96 little blades round 96
little hairs via the razor and flex to the the shaving plug socket in the
wall.
While pondering the situation the cat slowly gets up, saunters to the
bathroom door (staying just out of range all the while), pauses and looks
round with that arrogant air that only cats and wheel clamp operatives can
truelly muster and says "How about burning it off??...Get your ciggarrettes
and lighter shall I??".
I will close this sorry tale by saying the cat is now aware of
The Law of Kinetics, namely a wet, rolled and flicked towel really stings
when it clips the arse!!, And it looked really funny as it tried to run on
the wet lino starting with its back legs, it kinda fell over on its face and
looked like Bambi on ice as it tried to pick itself up in a hurry!! Thing is
it never did come back with my lighter!!

ADVICE TO NEW WITCHES
Following last months hot wax on the genitals incident during candle rituals,
I would like to thank Genua who suggested throwing myself in the freezer and
waiting for it to go hard, then chipping it off..will try that next time
dear ok??
This months tip for the new witch is a true tale of what happenned to me
in what should have been an ordinary Circle and involves the correct
placement of your altar within the confines of the Sacred Space.
Now , depending on what book you adher to you will doubtless develope
a preference for which quarter your altar goes to....the important bit is
to allow enough room between it and the edge of the Circle to allow you to
pass freely. THEN ADD ANOTHER 2 FEET!!!
Picture the scene, the curtains are drawn, there is a hush in the room,
the furniture has been cleared back, and an assortment of people gather
waiting for the circle to begin....some clothed some skyclad all barefooted
and all excited for their own reasons. Newbies, intitiates, adepts, all
united in their worship of the Goddess and the God.
The Circle is cast in my usual way (see Kaizen's favourite Circle in
The Way of the Witch on my site for details), and we start to dance and
move around the Circle, the music playing from the little sterio hypnotic,
friendly and rythmical...all is going well, tensions ease, newbies start
to relax, the power begins to build....
On about the third or fourth time around on passing the alter the HP (me)
really getting into it, I just catch my little toe on the edge of the Altar,
and instantly lose it!!...The resounding "CRACK" and 'RIP" as the toe that
doubles as "And this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home" met
the immovable edge of the altar was heard accross half of england. What was
heard instantly afterwards can best be described with the Christian phrase of
"Speaking in Tongues". I started speaking fluent Mayan (specificly the battle
cry of the fresh Eunoch) and moving in an identical fashion to a Native
American Shaman on Acid while still trying to maintain some sort of Circle
discipline. 6 witches rushed towards me (2 to see if I was ok, and 4 to
fight over the toenail with was several feet outside the Circle edge, a
valued prize apparently....have no idea why LOL), and miles away deep in an
army bunker an old gunnery sergeant had major memory flash back to his days
as radio operator in the mid 80's listened to the strangled cries of "KIDZEN"
at 8pm every night.......
Now this was to be a healing circle, to try and loosen a womans' inhibitions
(no more info than that chaps..so don't get excited!!) so she could
experience the part of her marriage that, up until that point was lacking.
As the catalyst it was my job to store the power raised and at the correct
moment release it to the intended patiant. Anyway, the power became instantly
1000 times stronger than intended, my mind was on other things so it got away
from me..it wasn't too bad, I was only 100 yards off target at a range of 34
miles. I hit a pensioner standing at a bus stop waiting to go and play
bingo. It was her first multiple orgasm for over 40 years, and last reports
I have are of her bombarding the local council for permission to buy the bus
stop.
So be warned!!!...Allow enough room!!....For the record it rained for 72
hours afterwards and our local weatherman couldn't understand why.....the
only person not affected by this down-turn in weather was a pensioner who
for some reason didn't leave the bus shelter for over a week, aparantly
waiting for something.......................
ADVICE TO OLDER WITCHES
The above wont effect you, your toenails will be
hard enogh to stand the impact..LOL
