Chapter 13
Mel Lam – Nick CheungThat night while everyone was deep asleep, the window of the third floor opened silently. Addy was comfortable in the bed while Don slept on the floor next to her. The guy in the dark out fit and ski mask climbed in with ease. He closed the window behind him as he pulled out his gun, he poked at Addy. She twitched at the pointed object hitting her back “Stop it!” she groaned.
Don wrinkled his forehead but he didn’t open his eyes “I didn’t do anything.” He mumbled.
“Stop poking me!” Addy turned her body only to be staring down the gun barrel.
Don snapped his eyes open as he sat up, his heart raced at the scene before him “Don’t hurt her…” he coaxed “Just don’t hurt her.”
Her eyes widened with fear as the masked guy continued to point the gun in her face “What do you want?” her voice trembled.
“Get out.” The guy ordered.
Addy turned her eyes to Don who only nodded “Go where?” she asked as she got off of the bed. The gun still pointing at her head.
The guy pointed to Don “You get out too.” He pushed at them with the gun as they walked outside the living room.
Her two bodyguards instantly woke up as the head guy stared at the scene in horror “What do you want?”
“Get out.” The guy repeated. He pushed at Don and Addy until they were clearly out the door along with the other two guys. He held the gun close to them and made them go into the elevator. When they left the apartment building, the guy pointed to the cab that was called for them “Get in there.” He ordered.
Addy frowned at the peculiar act of kidnapping. Why didn’t he escort them himself? They entered the car and the cab quickly drove off. Don turned behind the window of the car to see the guy still standing there. When they were blocks away, he saw him sprint away into the night. “That was bizarre.” He mumbled.
She nodded in agreement “Tell me about it.” She leaned onto the front seat where the driver was “Where are you taking us?”
The guy shrugged “I’m not sure lady. That man gave me $500. bucks and told me to drive you down town. He said when the meter ran out, I can let you off.”
Suddenly they heard a huge explosion from behind. Don and the guys spun back “What the hell was that?” he asked.
“Do you think….” Addy began but she shook her head “That couldn’t be…”
Don turned to her “You think that guy was trying to save us? Could he be Mel?”
Addy nodded “I was thinking the same thing.” She had a small smile on her face.
***************
Kathy was kneeling in the same position she was when she ran out of the hospital. Her face was streaked with dried tears, her eyes were dazed and her mind was somewhere else. Her eyes concentrated on a pair of legs walking towards her. Janet shook her head as she let out a small sigh “I warned you.” She said shortly.
“I know.” Kathy nodded slowly without looking up “I imagined the worse, but I still couldn’t take it.”
Janet bent down as she sat on the ground next to Kathy, they didn’t care about the stares that they received just sitting there in the middle of the street “What are you going to do?”
Kathy looked up for the first time and instantly noticed her black eye. At that second she forgot about Mel “What happened to you?”
The girl touched her left eye casually “Oh this? Just a love punch from my honey.” Her tone of voice was pure sarcasm.
“Why don’t you call the police?” Kathy asked with concern. Her heart went out to the girl, no one deserved to be beaten that way.
“And what? Be ridiculed by the court? I wouldn’t dream of it.” Kathy shook her head sadly and Janet laughed despite the situation “He’s a very jealous man. Anytime I even talk to another man, I was ‘cheating’ on him.” She rolled her eyes “And to think, I thought he was better than Mel.”
Kathy turned to her with widened eyes “Mel…maybe that’s why he’s treating you that way. Luke knew about your past with Mel. If the two of them are enemies, of course he would despise anyone that Mel liked.”
Janet smiled crookedly “By the time I realized that, it was too late. But you’re right.” She let out a sigh as she pushed herself off the cement. She put out a hand to help Kathy up. “Come on.”
“Where are we going?” she asked while allowing Janet to help her up.
“To get your boyfriend back before that cute nurse takes over.” Janet gave her a wink as she nodded towards the hospital but she stopped when Kathy didn’t walk. “What’s wrong? The worse has happened, you can’t let him off that easily?”
Kathy frowned “Why are you helping me?”
Janet smiled “You won fair and square. Quite frankly, I miss the old Mel. I think you are the only one that could help him remember.”
She smiled knowing that Janet was right. The girls walked into the hospital late in the night. She went through the same procedure as before and this time Caitlyn greeted them at the door “Hi.” Kathy gave her a friendly smile.
Janet checked Caitlyn out from head to toe, she nudged Kathy “You’ve got competition.”
“Excuse me?” Caitlyn asked with a smile.
“Nothing.” Kathy shook her head “This is Janet, one of Mel’s old friends.”
The young nurse nodded “I see. Hi, I’m Caitlyn. I’m sure Kathy told you the little details?” Janet snapped her gum as she nodded with a tilted head. “Great.” Caitlyn smiled as she waved for the girls to follow her “He just had a little checkup, so he’s free to see visitors.”
The three girls entered his room with Mel looking extra tired “Hi!” he said brightly “Who’s this?” he raised his eyes at Janet.
“Oh fuck, he really can’t remember shit huh?” Janet exclaimed as she poked at Mel in the forehead where his bruise was.
Caitlyn gave the girl a strange look and Kathy quickly explained “She’s never been in a hospital before.” She laughed nervously before pulling Janet away.
Mel tilted his head thoughtfully at Kathy “You’re….my sister?” he asked, still unsure of why he had an odd feeling.
“Yes.” Kathy nodded with a big smile while Janet widened her eyes at them.
“Sister?! Damn…so you’re into incest?” Janet pointed to Mel and Kathy.
Kathy turned to her with a beet red face, she shook her eyes vehemently “She’s just joking.” She turned to Mel and Caitlyn.
Caitlyn wondered why the girls were acting so strange but she had more important news to tell Kathy “Can I speak to you for a minute?” she asked Kathy, who then nodded, glad to be out of the place. Caitlyn took her outside to speak “I have some good news and some bad news.”
“Okay…” Kathy frowned wondering what it was about.
“The good news is there is a new machine that might be able to jump start his memory. The bad news is, it has never been tested on a human being with amnesia. Just on regular people and it’s resulted in people remember stuff from their childhood.” Caitlyn smiled when Kathy nodded “I imagined you’d be happier.”
Kathy looked up “I am very happy!” her face fell suddenly “But the chances are slim aren’t they?”
Caitlyn nodded “There are always consequences. But if you don’t take the chance, how will you ever know?”
She knew the nurse was right “I guess…”
“Now come on, let’s go tell Mel the good news.” Caitlyn opened the door to let Kathy but when Kathy stopped, the petite nurse looked up and began laughing.
Janet was teaching Mel some of his favorite words “Fuck!” Mel spat out harshly.
Janet stood by him with her hand on her chin, she shook her head “No, that’s not rough enough. Say it with hatred.” She urged.
Mel nodded as if being in school “FUCK!” this time there was spit.
Caitlyn laughed amusingly while Kathy shook her head at Janet “See, almost back to normal.” Janet was proud of herself.
“Did I curse a lot?” Mel asked.
The girls turned to Kathy who shrugged “You’re his sister.” Caitlyn pointed out.
“Yeah!” Janet chimed in with a sly grin.
Kathy let out a long sigh as she walked over to Mel “Yes, you did. But it’s always been a bad habit I tried to change. But you always managed to use the words in the most…interesting way.” Her eyes dazed as she recalled the first time she met him how he scared her to death.
“Really? I want to hear.” Mel said with much interest.
Caitlyn noticed Kathy was in her own little world as she nudged her gently “Kathy? Why don’t you tell Mel about the good news?”
Janet glanced at her watch and then up at Kathy “I have to go.” She said solemnly.
Kathy looked at her sympathetically “Be careful.” She advised sincerely.
“I’ll try.” Janet smiled as she waved goodbye to everyone, she gave Mel a hug “Get well soon and take care of her.” She pointed to Kathy before leaving the room.
Caitlyn turned to Kathy and then Mel “I’ll leave you two alone so you can talk.” Kathy nodded.
There was instant silence in the room when Mel’s nurse left. The two stared at each other awkwardly “Uh…where should I start?” Kathy asked more to herself.
Mel smiled as he patted the side of his bed indicating for her to come over closer “Why do you act like we’re strangers? If we are family, you don’t need to be shy. Just treat me like you normally would.” He was coaxing her.
Kathy felt strange being alone with him and the fact that he thought she was his sister was almost unbearable. But she knew it was her fault for blurting it out. She slowly walked over and sat down on the bed next to him “It’s a little hard.”
He frowned gently “How so?”
“Because you don’t remember me.” She said it sadly and it almost made him feel bad, but yet he didn’t know why. There was something emotional about the girl that he couldn’t quite get. She gave him a different feeling.
“Well, help me remember then.” He smiled with a nod. Kathy turned away and he reached up and pulled her chin back as he looked down and pulled her eyes up to his. The act gave her chills as she quickly pulled away and stood up. It was something Mel did “What’s the matter?” he asked with surprised.
Kathy shook her head “Nothing…”
Mel narrowed his eyes suspiciously “Why do I get the feeling that you are not who you say you are?”
She looked at him in the eye as she searched for an answer, but something told her he was just going with his gut instincts. He hasn’t remembered anything yet. Kathy smiled slowly “Sorry…this is really hard for me. Seeing my…my brother looking at me like I’m some stranger. It’s hard…” she nodded.
His face softened as he took her explanation “I see. I wish I could remember, I really do. But…”
“I understand.” Kathy nodded, she turned away when her tears began to well up. She scolded herself not to cry in front of him.
But it was too late, he already saw a tear drop to the floor “Hey…don’t cry, Katie. It’ll be okay.” He opened his arms as she walked over to him like a zombie. He reached out and pulled her into his chest “If I never remember, I will always take care of you…because you’re my sister.”
Kathy closed her eyes as she choked back a sob, she hugged him dearly “I know...” she breathed into his neck. She couldn’t hide back the cries waiting to explode as she pulled away suddenly “I’m sorry I have to go now…Caitlyn will explain everything to you.” She got up and rushed out of the room.
Chapter 14
Mel Lam – Nick CheungAddy, Don and the bodyguards were left in the middle of down town with the sun almost rising, they had no where to go. “What now?” Addy whined with a kick of a leg.
Don sighed “Siu Jei, it’s almost 5am, and we have nothing and no hotel will be open at this time. What do you expect us to do?” he was getting frustrated himself.
“Maybe we should just find a place to sleep?” the bodyguard suggested.
Addy groaned “Sleep on the streets? I’m not a homeless person.” She pouted and it only reminded Don how naïve she could be.
“That’s probably our best disguise right now.” Don said as he led the way to an empty park. He sat down by a tree and leaned against it with his eyes closed. “Good night.” He mumbled before letting out a yawn.
“Are you crazy?” Addy asked “I can’t sleep out here, there are bugs and ants and stuff….” She was feeling itchy just standing there.
Don snapped his eyes open and found the other two guys already fast asleep on the grass not too far from them. He looked at Addy “Look Princess, your royal castle is hundred miles away, unless you can fly there’s no way in hel we can get back there tonight. Just rest easy and we’ll figure out something in the morning.”
She seemed to think about it as she slowly nodded “Fine…but I’m not sleeping on the dirty grass.”
Don laughed as he looked around and there was only grass around them “Knock yourself out.”
Addy looked around sadly and knew she was defeated as she took a seat next to him “Move over!” she pushed at him roughly.
“I was here first!” he proclaimed with annoyance.
“I don’t care.” She gritted her teeth but continued to unsuccessfully move him. When he wouldn’t budge, she smiled slyly before leaning down on his chest.
It did the trick as he quickly jumped back “What are you doing?!”
Addy smiled victoriously as she sat comfortably on his seat “Claiming my spot.” Don knew if he didn’t let her win, they would never get to sleep. So he moved a few feet from her and slept on the grass.
**************
The next morning, Kathy returned to the hospital. She had packed up her bags and was ready to return to Hong Kong. It’s been almost 2 weeks and she only had 10 days off. She dropped by the hospital to see Mel one last time. She knew he would be okay with Caitlyn by his side.
But when Kathy arrived at the hospital, she didn’t know how to say goodbye. Surely he would be upset to know that his sister was leaving him for an undetermined amount of time. She leaned herself on one of the benches outside the hospital and sat down.
“What’s wrong? You can’t face him?” Caitlyn’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
Kathy looked up with a small smile “No…why would you say that?”
“Because you’re not really his sister…you’re his girlfriend aren’t you?” she has been suspecting that since the first day she met Kathy.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Kathy looked away and it only proved Caitlyn’s theory correct. She took a seat next to Kathy who looked up at her with earnest eyes “I’m not his girlfriend.”
“So you admit that you’re not his sister?” Caitlyn pressed.
The flustered girl eventually nodded “No…I’m not his sister either.” Caitlyn smiled “Is it that obvious?” Kathy asked.
“I was almost buying it until last night. When you rushed out of the hospital in tears. I figured it wasn’t something a sister would do after seeing her brother still alive after a vicious brawl.”
“You’re very clever.” Kathy complimented, her face changed “I have to go.”
Caitlyn’s face fell “Why?!”
“I don’t belong here. I live in Hong Kong….I have a life there, a job that I love and friends that I miss.” She said sadly. “I hate to leave Mel like this, but I guess it’s a sign. He doesn’t remember me anyways, what difference does it make?”
The tiny nurse frowned “What difference? You’re probably the only person in this world that could help him remember. Don’t you want to help him?”
Kathy shook her head “Maybe its better that he doesn’t remember? That way he can start a brand new page of his life…leave the dark past behind.”
“Why do I get the strange feeling that his life is not as simple as I imagine?” Caitlyn was interested in his past “Can you tell me a little bit about it? I’ve always wondered who he was and why did he get in that fight that almost cost him his life? Not to mention that tattoo is ferocious.”
“You really want to know?” Kathy asked.
The girl nodded like a hyper puppy “I do.”
Kathy took a deep breath as she prepared to tell the story she never imagined she would repeating “Melvin Lam…who’s known to the triad world as Mel Gor. He was intiated into the Red Dragon gang at the ripe age of 16. It was a shame the way he had to leave his family but he found another family through the Red Dragons. He climbed his way to the top and now he’s only under one man, the Dai Gor of this gang. I’ve never met him myself but I hear he’s great to his boys.” She paused when Caitlyn’s eyes widened with what looked like fear “He has a tough exterior but he’s a softie at heart. Especially when it comes to girls, any girl that has crossed his path will always be taken care of. That’s due to the fact that he made one big mistake with an ex girlfriend. He was careless with her and now she lives a horrid life of a prostitute. It was almost a wake up slap for Mel…” she smiled at the thought of her friend Snow.
Caitlyn nodded and breathed out “Wow…I wouldn’t have guessed the kind hearted man in there was a vicious gangster.” She looked up at Kathy with wide eyes “Are you one too?”
“No…” Kathy laughed at the naïve girl.
“That’s what I thought, you don’t look like one. But that girl…Janet? Is she one?” Kathy nodded and Caitlyn too nodded slowly “I see…so how did you two meet?”
She turned away with a distant look in her eyes “It was years ago…I was in Toronto for school and on my way home one night I ran into Mel at the subway station bleeding to death. He looked pale but he was stubborn like a mule…he would not let me help him. But something told me that I should assist him so I insisted until he let me. I walked him home and mended to his would, that’s when I realized I walked into the wrong place. If you saw that huge dragon tattoo on his arm, it would give you a red flag, he was not a normal guy.”
Caitlyn nodded “I know…but I didn’t want to scare him since he didn’t even remember his own name.”
Kathy smiled “That tattoo was a reminder of his life…his life as a gangster, why he became that way. He told me one time that the dragon covered his first scar from a gang fight. It was there to tell him never to forget his roots.”
“He sounds like an honorable man.” Caitlyn laughed at the irony “For a gangster that is.”
“Mel is a very honorable man.” Kathy said firmly “He is there for his boys because they were always there for him. Needless to say if you helped him once, he will help you back a hundred times. That was just the way Mel worked.”
The young nurse leaned on her elbow to knee thoughtfully “If he’s so great…how come he was beaten up so bad this time?”
Kathy shook her head “I don’t know….But I hear that his enemy did that to him.”
Caitlyn nodded, she was still curious to know who Kathy was to Mel “You never said your relation with Mel?”
“There’s nothing to say.” Kathy sighed with a content smile “I’m not anyone to him…” she glanced at her watch “I have to go, my flight leaves soon.”
“You’re not staying for the test?” Caitlyn tried only last time to keep the girl.
Kathy shook her head “No…He’ll be fine without me. Just promise me you’ll take care of him. You’re his only friend now. If anyone comes and claim to be his friend, don’t believe them.”
The girl nodded with widened eyes “Okay. Take care of yourself, Kathy.”
She smiled and instinctively leaned over and hugged the nurse “I will…. thank you for everything.” She pulled away and found Caitlyn near tears “Remember what I said.” Caitlyn nodded as she was choked up.
****************
Don was rudely awakened by the cop who was kicking him on the leg “Hey, no sleeping in the park.”
Addy fluttered her eyes open “Shit!” she cursed as she pulled at Don’s arm “Get up! Come on…it’s cops.”
Don opened his eyes as he quickly got up with Addy by his side “Sorry officer… we were just resting.”
“Well keep moving, this is a public place.” The uniformed man said sternly before leaving the two.
Addy let out a yawn and Don quickly covered his nose “Ew…be a little courteous will ya?!”
She turned up her lips as she leaned in closer to him and let out a long breath of unbrushed teeth. He practically stumbled backwards while she laughed humorously “That’s what you get.” It was then that she noticed her two bodyguards were gone. “Where are the two dogs?”
“Don’t be so rude!” Don rolled his eyes “Just because they follow you around doesn’t make them dogs. They have names you know.” Addy shrugged and he looked at her stunned “You don’t know their names? So what if something happened to you? What do you do to call them?”
Addy crossed her arms “I call for ‘help’.” She nodded firmly.
“You are such a sad soul.” He shook his head sadly.
“Shut up, stupid.” She groaned as she looked around for the two bodyguards.
Don narrowed his eyes “Don’t call me stupid.”
“Okay, dork.” She giggled at their repeated argument.
“Don’t call me dork.” Don wasn’t in any mood to play games with her.
“Fine, dorkette.” Addy quipped with her chin in the air.
Don laughed “That’s not a word.” He pointed to her cracking up amusingly “What a stupid word…who taught you that? You’re 5th grade boyfriend?”
Addy pouted as she whacked him across the arm “Shut up! It’s not funny.”
“Yes it is…” Don continued to laugh but stopped instantly when the bodyguards came back “You’re dogs.” He nodded at Addy.
She turned and let out a frustrated sigh “Where the hell did you two go?”
“We got some leads.” The head guy spoke up with a smile “Mel Gor…he’s…”
“Where is he?” Addy grabbed a hold of his collar and practically shook him.
“He’s at Toronto Hospital.”
Addy frowned “Hospital? Why? What’s wrong with him?”
“He was in a fight with Luke about two weeks ago at Johnny’s. When he woke up, the doctors diagnosed him with amnesia.” The guy explained sadly.
Don shook his head “Tsk, tsk, tsk…there goes our ticket out of Toronto.”
Addy turned to him with an evil expression “He’ll be fine. I want to see him. He’ll remember me.” She nodded anxiously.
Don rolled his eyes “He has amnesia…dorkette.”
“No one’s talking to you!” she snapped. “Come on, let’s go…I want to see Mel Gor.”
The bodyguard nodded “Fine, but we have to be careful, the Tigers could be close by.” So the four headed off towards the hospital.
Chapter 15
Mel Lam – Nick CheungMel sat in the testing room while the doctors talked amongst themselves. He was nervous and yet he was ready for the outcome. Whether good or bad, he knew what he had to do. Move on with his life.
The large glass machine gave him the chills, it looked so futuristic and to think the buttons on the side would take him back into his memories. His thoughts suddenly turned to Kathy, he wondered why she didn't come? He made a mental note to ask Caitlyn later. When the doctors announced for Mel to lie down on the conveyer belt that would take him into the glass machine, he said a silent prayer and assumed his position.
It took almost two hours until the doctor pulled him out. His forehead was dripping with sweat and his eyes were closed as if enduring something so painful. Dr. Chu looked at his colleagues "I've never seen someone be in such pain after this test. Mr. Lam, are you okay?" he shook Mel.
*************
Outside Caitlyn waited patiently for the outcome. She paced the floors and prepared a speech to tell Mel about Kathy's sudden disappearance. Suddenly the double doors to the testing center thrusted open and appeared three tall men and a girl looked flustered.
"Mel Gor!!" Addy called out.
Caitlyn looked up strangely, she suddenly remembered Kathy's words. 'Don't trust anyone'. "Miss, please keep your voice down." the tiny girl said firmly.
"Who are you? I can speak how ever I want!" Addy cried even louder "Mel Gor!! Where are you?"
"If you don't lower your voice, I will call for security." Caitlyn threatened.
Addy narrowed her eyes slyly "Look, little miss prissy nurse or whatever you are. That lady at the front said Mel was here. I know he's here, are you going to let me in or not? I no problem using force." she pulled up her long sleeves while Don rolled his eyes.
He pulled his arm around Addy and picked her up as he placed her down behind him. He turned back to Caitlyn with a smile "Sorry, she's a little crazy." he made a circular motion with his index finger at his temple. "Is Mel Lam here? We're friends of his, I promise."
Caitlyn had a feeling this gentleman was nicer. She followed her gut instincts as she nodded. Addy pushed Don out of the way as she practically shook Caitlyn "Where is he?!!" she asked frantically.
The petitie nurse broke free as she turned away from Addy and spoke directly at Don "Mel has amnesia. We're trying a new test to bring back his memories. The chances of him remembering is less than 40%. He is still in there with the doctors, but he should be out soon. You guys can wait here." she advised.
Addy smiled brightly "He'll be fine...I just know it." she clapsed her hand together as if praying.
"Do you guys know Kathy?" she was testing them to see if they were indeed Mel's friends.
Don frowned "I've never heard of her."
Addy yanked at his arm "Shut up, stupid." she turned to Caitlyn with a nod "Yes, I know here. Was she here?"
Caitlyn frowned wondering if they were indeed Kathy's friend, why wouldn't they know she was in Toronto? "She was here for a few weeks but she just left to the airport this morning."
Addy seemed relieved as she let out a sigh "Thank goodness."
The nurse gave her a strange look "Do you really know Mel?"
"Of course I do!" the spoil brat said haughtily "We are very good friends."
A few minutes later Mel was released. The doctors walked out with a look of concern. Dr. Chu found the group standing outside "Oh, is this a party?" he smiled when Caitlyn giggled.
"These are Mel's friends." she introduced them. Mel himself looked distraught when suddenly Addy ran up to him and hugged him. He didn't return her hug but he looked at Caitlyn for help.
"Mel Gor!" Addy gushed "I'm so glad you're okay. You do remember don't you?"
Mel widened his eyes "No..." he said slowly "Who are you people? Where's my sister?"
"Sister?" Addy frowned "You don't have any brothers or sisters." she looked over at Caitlyn "What did you guys do to him??! He's gotten worse!" she was near hysteric.
Don let out a sigh as he reached over and covered Addy's mouth "I'm so sorry, she just has no manners." he apologized to the doctors while Addy tried to break free. Eventually he wrapped the free hand around her upper chest area to keep her from moving. "So the testing didn't go too well?"
Dr. Chu shook his head, his eyes still glued to Addy who was yelling through her covered mouth "Uh...well..no, it was not successful. But it's never been tested on a patient with amnesia. We were very optimistic going into this but unfortunately not everything goes as planned. I'm sorry. Mr. Lam can leave the hospital now. His injuries have been fully recovered and there is no use for him to stay any longer." the man nodded sadly and walked away.
Don smiled graciously "Thank you doctor." he forgot about Addy as he lightened his grip. She got free and pushed his hand into her mouth as she bit it hard. "OW!!" he pulled back his hand which had a huge imprint on it.
She rushed over to Mel who looked frightened as he hid behind Caitlyn "Mel Gor..." Addy looked at him innocently "How could you forget me?"
Mel shook his head "I don't know you people. Where's Katie?" he asked loudly.
"Katie?" Addy looked even more confused "Who is that?"
Caitlyn sighed "That's Kathy."
Addy widened her eyes with a look of disgust "Sister? She's his sister? Eww...that's sick...I always assumed she was his lover from the way the guys talked about her...oh, that's disgusting!" she spat.
"She's not his sister." Caitlyn rolled her eyes at the melodramatic girl.
"She's not?" Don and Addy said simultaneously.
Mel spun Caitlyn around using his hands "What did you say? Who is she? I had a gut feeling she's not my sister but she kept insisting."
Caitlyn frowned apologetically "Sorry...I couldn't get it out of her either. She's at the airport right now."
"I have to go see her." Mel said as he prepared to walk out of the hospital in his gurny.
Addy stopped him "You can't leave yet. You didn't sign out yet. Don and I will go."
"Siu Jei..." the head bodyguard started to object.
"It's okay.” Don interrupted “I’ll be careful. Just watch Mel for us.” The two rushed to the airport in hopes to catch Kathy before she got on the plane. When they got there, they checked with the check in area. The girl said the flight back to Hong Kong was delayed for three hours, so they were in luck. “Come on.” Don nodded to Addy as they raced through the terminals. “I don’t see her…” he looked around at Terminal B where Kathy’s flight would be.
Addy rolled her eyes “You don’t even know what she looks like!” she said exasperatedly. She concentrated and suddenly her eyes lit up. She ran over to the girl dressed in a knee length flowered print skirt and a plain top. “Kathy? Come with me…Mel wants to see you.” Without waiting for the girl to answer Addy reached down and pulled her by the hand.
“Hey…I’m not Kathy.” The girl argued as she pulled away from the crazy woman trying to convince her otherwise.
Don let out a loud laugh as he threw his head back and held onto his stomach. Addy looked apologetically at the girl and then turned to Don as she punched him in the stomach “Shut up.”
“I thought you knew what she looked like?” he sang teasingly.
Kathy was nearby as she stood up and was about to walk over to them when randomly a group of 15 or more guys ran over to Don and Addy as they began to pull out their hidden daggers. But it was too late, the two were surrounded. The whole terminal turned to full chaos with people running away in all directions. Kathy turned to some security guards “Call the police!” she urged. The man was petrified as he dialed on his walkie talkie.
The men began to charge at the two, particularly at Addy while Don tried hard to dodge the stabs. When a guy sliced his knife at Addy, she closed her eyes to endure the pain instead Don shoved her out of the way and in return he was cut badly on the left arm. He stumbled backward in pain while holding onto his arm. Addy rushed over to him as her eyes moved upward at the surrounding group. “What now genius?” she asked.
Don knew they could only sit and wait for the cops to come and save them. How dared they attack people in broad daylight with a crowd exposure too. The men laughed humorously as they threw their arms back and began slashing at them. Don pushed Addy away as he covered himself over her and took the sharp edges hitting every part of his back. He cried out in pain each time the metal weapon hit his back.
Kathy stood on the side helpless as she watched the people began to rush out of the airport. Her eyes did a double take on two masked men in dark suits as they came to the rescue beating up every guy that stood towering over the two defenseless victims.
Eventually they pulled Addy and Don to their feet one guy grumbled “Get out of here!”
Addy supported Don whose back was drenched with blood. The two followed the crowd through one of the exits. And on the opposite end came a group of policemen running towards them to stop the chaos. It was when Kathy snuck away too, easily merging in with the crazy crowd. Her eyes landed on one of the masked men. His eyes were so familiar yet she knew it was impossible.
