Chapter 19
Julian Cheung - Sunny LamThe following day at Phoenix Inn proved to be one of their slower days. They spent most of the day standing around and waiting for the next customer to come in. At one point, Nick dropped by with Amy to see his restaurant. He was a bit shocked to see the empty tables "What's up with today?" he asked Sunny.
He shrugged at Nick "I don't know, it's been like this all morning."
"Well, there are good days and there are bad days right?" Nick said with much optimism.
Sunny agreed "It gives my employees a day to be lazy. But I think they look more bored than lazy." he pointed to the waiters and waitresses who were all sitting on the empty tables.
Nick looked around and spotted Allie, he smiled at Sunny and walked over to her "Mind if I join you?"
She seem to be distracted when it took her a few seconds to acknowledge Nick "Oh...I'm sorry. Of course, have a seat."
"How are you doing?" he asked casually.
She smiled "Not worry about men, that's for sure." he laughed and shook his head. Suddenly her face clouded over "Nick, I....I don't know if I should tell you."
He frowned "You don't trust me?"
She shook her head "No. It might sound strange, but I have this deep uneasy feeling about today. Like something's going to happen."
"Your afraid of another burglary?" he asked in wonder.
She shook her head "No. Not that it wasn't scary. I just have this feeling that something's wrong. But maybe I'm just being paranoid."
He nodded "Maybe it was something you ate?" he patted her on the head affectionately "I'll get you some tea."
Allie turned to him with wide eyes "You don't have to do that. I should be serving you." she insisted. When she was about to get up, he quickly pulled her down.
"Don't be silly, you're not feeling good. I'll get it for you." he smiled as he got up and walked towards the kitchen. He stopped at Sunny's post. "Hey, Sunny." his friend looked up "Allie is not feeling too good. Maybe you should let her go home."
He wrinkled his forehead "She didn't tell me."
"But she told me." Nick said. "Go talk to her." he pushed Sunny, when he didn't budge, Nick added "You have to talk to your employees you know."
Sunny knew it was true as he walked over to Allie "Nick says you're not feeling too good."
She looked up and smiled "Just one of those uneasy feelings, nothing to worry about." she assured.
He looked at her with genuine concern "Sometimes those feelings turn out to be true." Her eyes began to wander and he soon regret what he said knowing that she was beginning to worry "I'm sure it's nothing though. Nothing exciting happens here." he smiled, trying to ease her concern.
She nodded "I hope you're right."
The minute she said it, Joey Lai came rushing into the restaurant. He looked frantic as he rushed to Allie, spotting her and another guy talking. His eyes were cold but they quickly eased up when he was standing right over her "Allie!"
She looked up with her brows furrowed "Joey? What are you doing here?"
"It's...it's Josh. He got in a car crash." he blurted out.
Allie stood up "What? How? Where is he now? Is he okay?" she spilled out the questions.
Sunny stroked her shoulders to calm her down "Allie, I'm sure he'll be okay. What hospital is it? I'll take her there." he said to Joey.
Joey raised an eyebrow "My father would not let him stay at a hospital, so he had them move Josh home." Sunny eyed him suspicously, it didn't make any sense to him. But despite his suspicion Allie believed it. "You know how my father can be." he added.
Allie nodded "That's true, he would do that. I have to see him." she said to Sunny.
He nodded "I'll take you there."
Joey quickly stopped them "No, my father would not any stranger on our property, I'll take Allie."
Allie nodded "It's okay Sunny, I'll be fine." she looked at Joey "Let's go." they quickly left the place.
Josie came out from the restroom in time to see Allie and some guy rushing out. She saw Sunny's gaze at the two of them. "What happened?" she asked casually.
He sighed "Josh got in a car accident. That was his brother coming to tell Allie."
Josie frowned "You mean Joey Lai?" Sunny nodded wondering how she knew his name. "That damn jerk that insulted her and hit on her?" She snickered "Don't even know if he's telling the truth." she was just being sarcastic but Sunny took it seriously.
"What do you mean he hit on her?" Sunny asked as he gripped onto Josie's arm.
She shrugged her shoulders "I didn't promise Allie that I wouldn't tell. She told me the other day when she was eating dinner with Josh's family, Joey hit on her and he insulted her by calling her a whore. And that when his brother is finished with her then he would take her." she wrinkled her nose "He sounds like a sicko if you ask me."
Sunny seemed shocked and almost disgusted by his male species "You think he might be lying?"
Josie looked at Sunny with fear "Don't scare me!" she quickly reached for her phone and dialed Josh's cell number that he gave to her on one of the short occasions that they talked. It was for emergency use if she needed to find Allie and she would happen to be with him. The phone rang three times and he picked up "Josh?"
He laughed "You called my cell phone. Allie's not with me." he said. "Shouldn't she be at work?"
Josie's heart raced as she turned to Sunny "He's okay..." she didn't have time to say anything else when Sunny rushed out of the restaurant after Joey and Allie. He sped out in time to see Joey and Allie pulling out of the parking structer. Without thinking, he called for a cab and had him follow the white corvette.
In the restaurant, Josie was still on the line with Josh who was beginning to sound frantic himself "Josie, what is going on? You're scaring me, is it Allie?"
Josie's hand was shaking with fear for her friend "Josh, where are you now?"
"I"m in my office." he sounded frustrated since she was only telling him bits and pieces. "What the hell is going on?" he asked again.
"Your brother just came in looking for Allie. He said you were in a car accident, she was worried about you. He offered to take her to you." she said carefully.
"What? Why would he do that? Is this some kind of a joke?" he was trying to convince himself more.
"Sunny just ran after them, who knows where he would take her? Oh God, I hope he's not going to do what I think he's going to do." she wished out loud.
"Josie, do you know something I don't know?" Josh asked in a serious tone.
She stuttered "I...I promised....I guess I should tell you." she finally decided to tell him everything Allie told her. After she finished, she heard nothing on the other line "Hello? You still there?"
He seemed calm but his heart was racing "Yeah..."
"What are we going to do now?" Josie asked.
"Hope and pray that my brother is not planning to rape her." he said as cold sweat began to drip over his face.
"WHAT?!!!" she screamed into the phone. Nick immediately turned to her when he saw her looking very much frustrated "He would do that?" she asked Josh.
"He's done it before. But my dad found a good lawyer that talked the judge and jury to believe that the girl asked for it." Josh began to pull at his hair "Where could he have taken her?" he sighed loudly.
"I just hope Sunny could chase after them." Josie prayed.
"Sunny? Call his cell!" Josh cried.
Josie was so busy talking to Josh that she forgot Sunny had ran after them, maybe he did reach them in time. She quickly hung up the call with Josh and called Sunny. "Hello? Sunny, did you follow them in time?"
Sunny was more than distracted as he barked at the driver "That car!!" he returned to Josie "Yeah...I don't know where he's going. It looks like a rich residential area." he looked around and there were huge mansions after mansions.
"Maybe he's taking her to his home?" Josie offered.
"Wouldn't he be afraid that the parents would be home?" Sunny asked out loud.
"Maybe he knows they won't be home..." Josie was getting more scared by the minute. "Let me call Josh back."
****************
Joey drove steadily as he quickly pulled up to the mansion, he drove past the gates and they were closed behind him. Allie continued to have that uneasy feeling but she mistook it for Josh's safety. She prayed that he would be okay. When he parked the car, she practically jumped out and began pressing the doorbell expecting the butler to answer.
Instead Joey walked calmly to the door and unlocked it with his keys. "Calm down, Allie. He won't want to see you so frantic."
She nodded in agreement "Okay...I know." she took a step in and instantly noticed there was no one in sight. "Where..."
"They're probably all in the library, that's where daddy had Josh placed." he pointed to the door down the hall. She rushed to it and opened it only to find an empty room with a beautiful red wood desk and leather chair. On the wall where the door was laid a couch and the other side of the entrance was a mini bar.
Fear began to over come her as she ran for the door only to be blocked by Joey's tall stature. She backed away slowly "Josh wasn't in a car accident was he?" she asked with her voice trembling.
He shook his head and covered his mouth "Oops, my mistake." he turned and locked the door behind him.
Chapter 20
Julian Cheung - Sunny LamOutside of the gates, Sunny stood looking for a way in. But it was useless, the only way in was to climb the tall gates. He braced himself as he began climbing it, he had a few cuts and bruises by the time he reached the other side.
Inside the Library, Joey was taking his time as he poured himself a drink "Don't look so nervous, you act like you've never done this before, Allison. If that's your real name."
Her face hardened "What are you saying?"
He laughed as he took a seat on the couch, next to it was a tiny wooden drawer, he slipped the top one open and she could cleary see a tiny metal pistol. She inched back in obvious fear while Joey let out a laugh "Remember when I said you looked famliar?" she nodded blanky "Well, I finally remembered. One year ago, you were at a night club by the name of Midnight, is that right?" she shook her head, she's never been to a club let alone a night club. He wasn't fazed by her objection "Well, there was a girl that I hit on that night but she dared to reject me." he nodded "That wasn't a good idea." his voice hardened as he gulped the rest of the alcohol and threw the glass to the ground causing it to explode into thousands of pieces.
"I really don't know what you're talking about. This is the second time we've met." she insisted.
He stood up and walked towards her with a vengeance. "Don't lie!!" he grabbed her tiny figure as he pushed it on his worked out body "I don't like it when girls lie." he breathed down at her. She whimpered from the pain as he yanked on her hair. "You're going to get what you deserve." he laughed as he pushed her back into the couch.
She quickly squirmed her way to the edge of the couch "Please, just let me go. I won't tell anyone." she promised.
He let out a laugh "Even if you do, they will only believe me, since everyone at the restaurant saw you leave with me." he had planned it out too carefully. He inched closer to her while she turned her head away "You want to make this hard or easy?" he sat back and pulled her legs down the couch so her body would slide against the cushion. She yelled out in pain as her head hit the side arm. It only amused him more as he laughed. He reached for her apron as he yanked it out with ease.
She tried hard to get away, but the more she struggled the more pain he pushed on her. "Stop!!" She cried when he tightened his grip around her legs using his thighs.
He leaned onto her body as he grabbed her face harshly "You want to make this easy or you want to do it rough? That last girl loved it rough." he snorted as he returned to yanking off her pants, yet she put up a good fight.
Joey did not expect anyone to come in so he was in shock when Sunny barged through the door. He was obviously surprised as he jumped back. Allie took no time to free herself as she pulled her pants closer to her body and practically crawled to Sunny. He wrapped a protective arm around her as she held back the sobs "Are you okay?" he hugged her affectionately.
Joey snickered "So, my brother wasn't the only guy." he laughed "I should have known a hooker wouldn't want to settle down."
Sunny was disgusted with him as he let go of Allie, within seconds he had punched the guy in the face causing his lip to bleed. "You insult her one more time and I swear, I'll kill you!" he pointed to guy.
Soon enough, the sound of police cars were surrounding the mansion as the officers poured into the house. Josh and Josie were rushed in together. Josh's heart fell the minute he saw Allie looking disensembled, her hair was a mess and her face was smeared with tears. Sunny's arm remained around her shoulder even when the cops came in to arrest Joey.
Allie was in complete shock, the obvious feeling of shame came over her as she would not let anyone touch her but Sunny. Josh tried to take over the embrace but she only shivered at his touch. Josie knew what her friend might be feeling since she was a girl too, she pulled at Josh's arm "Just let her be." she soothed.
Down at the policed station, Mr. Lai had came by with his lawyer to bail out Joey. Sunny was disgusted when they walked away unharmed. "I'll see you in court." he managed to mutter at Sunny when he left.
Inside a specially sound proof room, the officers questioned Allie. Surprisingly she was strong and answered every question, down to the detail that he tried to rip her pants off. She knew if she softened, then he would only be roaming free outside of the law. After an hour, she was ready to leave "Thank you, Ms. Ng. You might have to testify, since you are the biggest witness." the nice lady officer told her before she was released.
Allie nodded "I'll be ready."
Josie was the first to spot Allie when she ran to her friend. She gave her a quick embrace. "Are you okay?" she said softly.
Allie looked at her friend in the eye for the first time since the incident "Yes. I am now." she turned to Sunny with a smile that he thought he would never see again "Thank you."
She saw Josh looking at her with saddened eyes. She walked over to him as he muttered "I'm so sorry..."
She was near tears when he apologized "It's not your fault." she hugged him warmly "Can you take me home?"
He nodded and turned to the other two "Thanks for everything." he said sincerely. They nodded as they watched them leave. It hurt Sunny to see her in Josh's arms, but he figured it probably hurt Josh more to see her in his arms.
The drive back to Allie's apartment was quiet, she was drained from the whole day. He stopped his car in 20 minute zone and got out of the car to open her door. She let him lead her out as she leaned onto him for support. She was feeling weak and a bit dizzy because she hasn't eaten since that morning.
The reached her apartment and he was quick to fix her something to eat. She was grateful munching on a sandwich. "Thank you." she said after she finished it. The blood beginning to flow through her body.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked carefully, not sure of how she'd react.
She shook her head "No." she let out a sigh as she leaned forward and reached for his hand "Josh, I'm so so sorry."
He smiled strangely "Sorry for what?"
"For putting up with me. If I had been honest with everything from the beginning, maybe this wouldn't have happened?" she was feeling the wave of guilt come over her.
He shook his head "If I was more careful and been a better boyfriend, he wouldn't have the chance to..."
She squeezed his hand tightly "I'm not just talking about this situation. I'm talking since the time we started dating. I was being unfair. I shouldn't have led you on." he looked at her with questioning eyes "The truth is, you are nothing more than a good friend to me and you always will be. I never saw a spark between us but I did not want to hurt your feelings. You've done so much for me and I feel like I've done absolutely nothing."
He didn't take it too hard, he knew it was never there. "Love is not a one sided arrow. It takes two people to start a relationship. I don't blame you for anything. We had a chance, that's all I ever ask for." he was more understanding that she had dreamed.
"Some day you will make a girl very very happy." she smiled "Deliriously happy!" she teased.
He laughed "I feel sorry for the girl already." he smiled as he reached in to hug her. They stayed like that for a while without speaking any words. Finally, they both knew where each other stood in their hearts.
****************
After he left her that night, Josh's mood was a little better but the pain was still there. The pain of losing someone he definitely cared about, but he knew love could not be pushed. He would not stand in her way if she wanted to move on to someone else. Josh decided to go to his favorite bar. He dranked away until the pain disappeared. A few girls came up and flirted with him. He took the welcome in with open arms as he flirted back. They ended up going to the dance floor.
From a distant table, Josie was glaring at the guy in disgust. After she saw him dirty dancing with some girls, she could not stand it. How could he do something like that after what happened to his girlfriend that very morning. She could not take it as she got up and rushed to the dance floor. She tapped on both girls' shoulders "Escuse me. Ahem.." she cleared her throat.
The girls looked at her with impatience "What do you want? We found him first." one of the girls wearing a too short black mini asked.
Josie crossed her arms "I'm his pregant girlfriend. You want to be one too?"
The girls looked at him with disgust as the walked away. He turned to Josie "Pregnant girlfriend huh?" he laughed in his drunken stage.
"Come on." she said firmly as she took his hand and dragged him out of the club, on the way out, she grabbed her water bottle.
"But I want to dance...and drink!!" he cried and tried to struggle from her grip. Although it was too hard to get away when he was that drunk.
She opened her bottle of water and yelled "Drink this!" she poured it over his head as his clothes became drenched with water.
He seemed to be more awake as he wiped the water from his dripping face "Why did you do that?"
"How could you be in there doing that stuff when you're girlfriend is at home probably scared for her life." she scolded openly.
Josh sighed "We broke up." he saw her face freeze as he began walking down the streets. He received a bunch of strange looks due to his dripping clothes, but he didn't seem to care.
"Broke up?" Josie asked. "Why?"
He laughed sarcastically "Don't tell me you never saw it coming."
She shook her head "I guess she's finally being honest with herself." Josie turned to the distraught Josh "You're not taking it too well are you?"
He shrugged "I shouldn't be surprised. And if I said it didn't hurt, I would be lying through my teeth."
"I'm sorry." she said sincerely.
Josh let out a tired sigh "I just hope she'll be okay from now on."
"Hey, don't worry about her. She'll be taken care of." Josie knew Sunny would jump at the chance. "I'm more worried about you."
Josh stopped in his tracks as he turned to her with a grim smile "Don't tell me you're falling for me..." he began.
Her faced flushed at the accusation "Of course not!" she insisted "You're not that lucky to have me fall for you." she added.
"That's true, I don't have that kind of luck." he teased.
"Anyways, I don't like guys that hide their true identities." she said with a double meaning.
He turned to her with an earnest face "Sorry...I know you never knew about my real job and real life. Did the raid at the mansion give up the secret?"
She laughed "No, I'm not that slow. My first suspicion was when Allison told me about your father in the hospital, the second clue was when you said you were in the office. What kind of delivery boy would have a snobby father and work in an office? Just because you never confirmed it didn't mean I was ignorant to it."
Josh applauded at the cleverly details that she picked up "Well, that's very observant of you. So now you don't want to be my friend anymore right?"
She rolled her eyes "Oh please, don't use that pity scheme on me, it doesn't work."
They laughed together for the first time as a strange bond began to build between them. She would never admit it to his face, but she truly had a crush on him.
Chapter 21
Julian Cheung - Sunny LamThe following week, Allie was called in to testify in court against her attacker. Sunny was called in that very same day. She was dressed in a slacks and a collar shirt when she entered the court room. Her eyes wandered to where Sunny, Josie and Josh sat on her left. She only gave a quick glance at Joey, who was behind a bar like seating area. He threw here a crooked smile and she felt her stomache turn.
The Defending attorney started the questions. "Miss Ng, is it true that you followed my client willingly on the day of March 10th?"
Allie was already warned by the Prosecuting Attorney that she should be ready for the questions that would be twisting the truth. "Yes. But that was because-"
The Attorney quickly cut her off "Thank you. That is all we need to know." he walked to her with a grim smile "Now then, let me ask you. Do you find my client, Joey Lai to be...oh attractive?"
She wanted to hurl "Before he tried to rape me or after?" she asked sarcastically.
There were a few chuckles through the crowd while the Judge pounded his silencer "Ms Ng, there is no need to be a smart mouth. Just answer Attorney Leung."
Allie nodded respectfully "Yes Sir. No, I do not find him attractive." She said honestly.
"Really?" the man didn't seem faltered by her honesty "A tall, handsome man like my client is not the least bit attractive to you? I find that hard to believe. Or is your accusation blinding your own vision?" he accused.
Her heart began to pace as she tried hard to stay in control. When she looked up at Joey, he only smiled with a sly wink in her direction. She shivered in disgust "I met Mr. Joey Lai about a week ago at dinner. I recalled him looking very drunk when he came an hour late into the family dinner. That was a bad impression on my part, I do not find drunken guys attractive when they are hitting on me."
Attorney Leung nodded "Fine. I will take that as an answer. But aside all that, you need to answer my question honestly. Do you think he is at all attractive? Let's say, if you walked into a bar and he approached you, you would not find him attractive?"
She knew what he was trying to do but still fell into the trap "Well, that would be a different situation. I guess you could say he is a little attractive."
"Thank you!" he sounded like he just won the fight "I have no more questions, your honor." he nodded to the elder judge.
"Prosecutor Attorney Chan, do you have any questions?" the judge asked.
The nice looking man in a black robe stood up and nodded "Yes Sir." he walked to the front of the room and looked at Allie in the eye "Ms Ng, now tell me. What did Mr. Lai say for you to leave with him during your working hours?"
Allie quickly recalled "He said that my boyfriend, Josh was in a car accident. He also said that he was moved to home because his father did not want Josh to be in the hospital."
"I see...so he lied to get you to go with him?" the attorney asked.
"Yes." she replied firmly.
"What happened after that?" the man pressed gently.
"We drove to his house. I was a little suspicous when the house was empty, the last time I was there, there were maids, cooks and butlers all over the mansion. He led me to the library claiming that Josh was in there resting. When we entered the room, no one was there. I tried to leave but he closed the door and insisted that I was a hooker he met a year ago."
"He said you were a hooker?" the attorney made it loud and clear. He was playing the guilt card.
"Yes. I told him I never went to a bar in my life. He didn't believe me, he kept saying the girl turned him down and he was upset. Then he pulled out a drawer with a gun, I took it as a threat and I began to feel fear for my safety. He got angry when I told him to let me go so he attacked me and pulled my hair before he threw me on the couch." she paused to let the tears flow naturally. She wiped them quickly away.
Attorney Chan nodded in concern "It's okay Ms. Ng, go on."
"He took off my apron...then he...he unbuttoned my pants and tried to rip them off when I put up a fight." she finished "Then Sunny came in and I got away."
"So you are saying that Mr. Lai mistook you for a hooker, which is a crime to even order, and he attempted to rape you because he thought you were the girl that he met and turned him down because NO one dares to turn down a rich and handsome man like him?!" he cried to the Jury.
Attorney Leung stood up "Objection!" he cried "Mr. Chan has accused my client of something that has not been proved."
The Judge nodded in agreement. "Objection overuled, Attorney Chan, please be careful with your words."
"Yes Sir. I have no more questions." he nodded to Allie before taking a seat. Allie began to stand up to get away from the hot seat when The Defending Attorney stood up.
"I would like to ask some more questions, your honor." Attorney Leung said."
"Of course. Witness, please be seated." the judge ordered.
Allie sat down not knowing what to expect. "Ms Ng, you said my client threatened you with a gun? Did he actually point it at you and say have sex with me or you will die?"
She shook her head "No..."
"Then is it possible that you wanted to have sex with my client, if it was not threatened?" the jury began to buzz at the question.
Allie sat up on her chair as she looked frantically at the jurors "I felt threatened, I never said that he threatened me." she looked away towards Sunny and Josh who was frustrated for her.
"Ms Ng, earlier, you said Sunny came in and you got away." Allie nodded as she wiped the frustrated tears from her cheeks "Who is this man? He is not your boyfriend am I correct?"
"No." she replied shortly.
"How many boyfriends do you have?" the insulting question was asked and it caused a stir in the crowd.
She looked up in horror "I only had one during that time." she didn't dare look at Josh in the eye, afraid that she would embarrass him. Lucky for her, the Attorney didn't catch her words.
"You mean, you have one at that time, but you could have more during another time?" the man pressed vicously.
"Objection your honor, what has this got to do with the crime?" Attorney Chan argued.
Before the Judge could give his answer, Attorney Leung quickly added "I will prove why it is important."
"Objection overruled." The Judge said "Make it quick, Attorney Leung." he warned.
"Yes. You see, Ms Ng, if she has more than one boyfriend, it would be easy for my client to feel that she is a player or maybe she likes being with different kinds of men? He could easiliy misinterpret that she was giving him hints." he chuckled "Afterall, women can be very hard to read." he turned back to the red face Allie, who was gripping on the banister of the witness chair.
"I believe it I made it clear that I did not want sex with him." she said through gritted teeth.
"That is what you thought." the attorney smiled like he just won the case "Thank you, Ms. Ng, you may step down."
Allie was shaken up when she stood up. Her eyes were caked with wet tears. She looked down at the floor and walked out of the room. She was in shock, never was she prepared for the twisted mind of the defending attorney. He set up the trap and sent her straight into it. Now she knew why he was dismissed of the first rape charge.
Sunny was called to the stand next, Allie was allowed back in after Sunny said his oath "Mr. Lam" Attorney Leung started "Was it true that you hit my client straight across the jaw? Causing him to bleed?"
Sunny nodded firmly "Yes."
"Why?" he asked with his shoulders shrugging.
"Because he insulted my friend." he replied carefully.
"Your friend? Ms. Ng you mean?" Sunny nodded "Funny that you would call an employee a friend."
"Is that against the law?" Sunny asked.
The attorney laughed as if it was humorous "Of course not. But it is illegal to hit someone." he said grimly "Now, Mr. Lam, how did my client insult your 'friend'?"
"He called her a hooker, I know she is not." he answered solemnly.
"How do you know that she is not? Are you a close friend? A boyfriend? How long did you know Ms. Ng?" he asked steadily.
Sunny looked at the man in the eye "I know she is not because after a full day working as a waitress, you do not have the energy to work as a hooker." Some of jurors laughed at the comment, even Allie had to crack a smile. For the first time Attorney Leung seemed to be upset at the response so Sunny continued "I've known her for almost 10 months now, she works everyday."
"I see. Let me ask you, do you like Ms. Ng more as a friend or...maybe a possible future mate?" he worked his magic around the words.
Sunny was honest with himself "I am not afraid to say that I am in love with her." the crowd exploded with whispers and hushing sounds.
Attorney Leung looked happy at the response "You are in love with her. Tell me Mr. Lam. Were you upset that this girl of your dreams almost slept with someone therefore you hit him in the face?! And you lied about the fact that my client wanted to rape Ms Ng. She was embarrassed that you had caught them in the middle of an intimate situation, to save her face, she lied. Isn't that possible?" he quickly accused.
Sunny laughed causing a stir running through the crowd, Attorney Leung frowned for he did not expect that reaction "She may be the girl of my dreams, but it is not a reason to hit some guy in the face. Allie had it made it clear to me that she did not like me, no matter what I do, she will not change her mind. That includes hitting someone in the face. I am not desperate enough to fall for a girl that is in the arms of another man. You can ask anyone I know, I do not have a temper."
The attorney looked absolutely shocked, he knew it would go nowhere if he were to continue asking "I have no more questions, your honor."
The Judge nodded "Do you have questions for Mr. Lam, Attorney Chan?"
"No, sir." the attorney smiled at Sunny, happy with the outcome of the questioning.
The next witness was Josh "Mr. Josh Lai, what is your relation to my client?" Attorney Leung asked.
"He is my younger brother." Josh answered.
"How would you describe your relationship with your brother?" he wasn't about to let him off that soon.
"Not very good. But that is because I don't agree with things that he does. We don't have anything in common." Josh added.
The attorney nodded understandingly "So would you say, you dislike him...or worse, hate him?"
Josh shook his head firmly "I do not hate him. He is my brother. Just like a mother that can never kill her own kids."
"But it's happened?" The man turned to the jury "We see it on the news from all over the world. It is not impossible for a brother to hate another brother, especially if a girl is involved." the clever man pointed out.
"It is still her choice in the end." Josh said firmly.
"Aww...that is very noble of you. But we all know that women have the power to make us weak, the power to make us fight over another person. Especially from the fact that Ms. Ng is a very attractive woman. How did you meet her?"
It seems the attorney did not check his background too carefully since he did not know how the two had met, Josh recalled the situation loud and clear "It was at the harbor about 9 months ago, there was a strike with the employees. My father's company sells produce to restaurants, Phoenix Inn is one of our biggest clients. I knew that the owner needed the produce that very day due to a banquet that was going on. So I went down there to collect the produce for the restaurant."
"You did?" The attorney didn't seem to buy it "The elder son of the biggest Produce company in Hong Kong. Dressed in a suit to go down the dirty, smelly harbor to pick up produce? Now, let's be serious."
"You can ask anyone from the harbor, I go down there in person. And I do NOT wear a suit, I dress in a Tshirt and a pair of old jeans. That is how I met Allie, she was down there to pick up the produce too. She did not know of my identity, I did not want to tell her because I was afraid she would be intimidated by the money that I had."
Again, the attorney felt defeated "Very well. That is all the questions I have." he quickly sat down.
Attorney Chan stood up and bowed to the Judge to start his questioning "Now, Mr. Lai. When did you hear that Ms. Ng left with your brother?"
"When Josie, a waitress who was present when Allie left with my brother, called me and asked where I was. She asked if I was in a car accident."
"Why did she ask that?" The attorney looked at him questioningly.
"She said my brother came in and told Allie that I was in a car accident and thats why she left with him." he answered.
"How did you feel at that time?" Attorney Chan asked.
"Scared for Allie. I know what my brother is capable of doing, he always gets what he wants. I was afraid he would harm her." Josh said earnestly.
"So you were scared that your brother had lied to get Ms. Ng to follow him?" he asked.
Josh confirmed "Yes."
"Thank you, you may step down." he turned to the Judge and nodded "I am done questioning."
The Judge stood up "We will continue this after a short recess."
