AOL Chat 2 Welcome to AOL Live, Ringo Starr!

AOLiveMC8: Hi!

Ringo1VMan: Hi, everybody I'm so excited...it's my first online experience.

AOLiveMC15: Ringo, we've got tons of questions from our audience, so let's get started!

Question: What songs did you sing in 'Storytellers'?

Ringo1VMan: Everything from a Little Help From My Friends, La De Da from Vertical Man, Love Me Do, King of Broken Hearts, I Was Walking, Octopus' Garden and many more surprises. Tune in June 28...Sundaynight.

Question: Did you enjoy working with Hanson?

Ringo1VMan: I didn't work with Hanson. They popped over to say hi while we were making the video for La De Da. That was all...we said hi making the video for La De Da.

Question: I saw your latest All Starr Band in Atlantic City, when will the video tape of the tour be available? - From: BobbyMiller

Ringo1VMan: Dear Bobby, though we have edited the tape and mixed the sound, we still don't have a release date for it, but when we do you'll be the first to know. Love and peace.

Question: Will the three of you EVER do one last concerttogether?

Ringo1VMan: No.

Question: What current artists do you enjoy? What influence, if any, have they had on your recent album?

Ringo1VMan: I like a lot of new acts. We have Alannis Morissette on the album... I just bumped into Lisa Lobe. I do like Oasis and...that's it.

Question: Did Linda's death bring you closer to Paul and George?

Ringo1VMan: We were very close anyway.

Question: When is your new album going to be released?

Ringo1VMan: Yesterday...

Question: There has been a rumor of George Harrison having cancer. Is that true? If so how is he doing?

Ringo1VMan: Call George ..I had lunch with him. He was fine.

Question: What do you remember most about being in The Beatles?

Ringo1VMan: Two things, one the love we had for each other as human beings, and two the great music we made together.

Question: I saw the picture of you in the crown on the VH1 site. What was that about?

Ringo1VMan: It was just a bit of silliness. It was an English tea cozy. As opposed to an American coffee cozy. And we wore it because of "King of Broken Hearts." It was my crown.

Question: I've been playing drums for 5 years now, when did you start drumming and what kind of drums do you have? I have a Yamaha stage kit

Ringo1VMan: I started drumming on the nightstand in the hospital at 13 and wanted to be a drummer ever since. I got my first real set of drums when I was 18...and have never looked back.

Question: What do you think about the changes of drum sounds from 1964 thru 1969?

Ringo1VMan: If you listen to my new CD Vertical Man you'll notice not much changes have gone on.

Question: I read that Paul has asked you and George to contribute to a tribute album to Linda. Is this a rumor?

Ringo1VMan: Yes.

Question: Ringo, do you still get a kick out of having screamingfans?

Ringo1VMan: Who wouldn't.

Question: Will you ever visit Beatlefest and give all us fans a pleasant surprise?

Ringo1VMan: So far it's not been one of the major things on my agenda but who can say in the future, one never knows.

Question: I heard you did a VH1 'Storytellers.' When will that be running?

Ringo1VMan: Sunday, June 28th.

Question: Hello Sir, How do you determine the kind of drum patterns to use to make a song stand out from the other songs on an album?

Ringo1VMan: You don't have to call me sir. You only have to call Paul Sir. It's my craft. It's my art to make them different. Very difficult question to answer.

Question: Do you enjoy being a grandfather?

Ringo1VMan: I loved it. I love it actually. One of the real fun is watching my granddaughter turn into a teenager in front of her father's eyes.

Question: Which musicians would you like to play with that you haven't had the chance to yet? Thanks, Angie

Ringo1VMan: That's very difficult to say because it depends what the project is. I'm very happy with the All Starrs, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton, Gary, Simon Kirk and Mark Revera.

Question: If you could go back in time and change anything in your career (Beatles or Solo) what would it be?

Ringo1VMan: It's very difficult because I've learned that to change one thing would change everything else ...so I'm very happy with my life...thank you.

Question: Hi..I bought your "Vertical Man" CD and noticed alot of other musicians on there like Ozzy Osbourne and thought that was kind of an interesting choice. Can you tell me how that came about?

Ringo1VMan: Ozzy is an old and dear friend...and he was in the next studio mixing his live album and we needed a high voice on Vertical Man. We asked, he said yes, and we did it.

Question: Ringo, were you upset that "A Hard Days Night" didn't make it into the top 100 films of all time? I know I was!

Ringo1VMan: Did anything of ours make it?

Question: Did you think the Beatles popularity was going to last this long and do you think that the group would be as popular if they started in the 90's rather than the 60's?

Ringo1VMan: Impossible to say, but I don't say why not.

Question: Hi Ringo! I was wondering if you think you'll ever act again in a movie.

Ringo1VMan: Sure, why not. But right now I'm just so, so happy with my musical career I don't want anything to get in the way ofthat.

Question: Hi Ringo!! My name is Dori, and I LOVE YOU!! I saw you on Jay Leno the other night, and I was just wondering, what was the button that you had on?

Ringo1VMan: It was a button of Harry Nelson, my dear friend, God rest his soul. It was his birthday and it was nice to have him on TV with me.

Question: What do you think about the message that today's musicians are sending to kids?

Ringo1VMan: Whatever message they like.

Question: Ringo, where can we write you? Ringo your sunglasses are cool but when will we every see your beautiful blue eyes!

Ringo1VMan: E-mail me on the Mercury Records web site.

Question: If you were not a Beatle, or if the Beatles didn't make it big like they did, what would you have done?

Ringo1VMan: I still would have been a drummer playing with someone. That's my passion, my life.

Question: Was this one of your favorite albums to make?

Ringo1VMan: Yes...I haven't had so much fun in a long time.

Question: Hi Ringo! My question is what kind of reaction did you have the first time you played at Shea stadium? It was the biggest ever up to that point and how did it make you and the others feel? I would just like to say a huge Happy Birthday to Paul tomorrow!!!!

Ringo1VMan: Great...

Question: Hi Ringo, why didn't you ever release "She's So in Love," I love that song and do you have any plans on releasing any rarities or demos from the studio that have not been released? I also love your new album Verticle Man

Ringo1VMan: Excuse me but I lost a few molecules on my way to the online. I don't have any memory of that song. Maybe it has anothertitle.

Question: Do your rings have any significance to them?

Ringo1VMan: It means I loaded with gold and diamond things.

Question: How did you come by the stage name "Ringo"? I've heard three different stories!

Ringo1VMan: There's only one story in a city of many. As I turned professional we were Rory Storm and Hurricanes. We all decided to change our names. I changed mine to Ringo.

Question: Dear Ringo, have you ever had your heart broken? Love, Jen- a fan from Ohio

Ringo1VMan: Yes I'm the king of broken hearts, my tears fell like jewels from a crown. I was 11 when Estelga Mash broke my heart.

Question: Ringo, in this mornings interview with Howard Stern you made mention that Steven Tyler had to pull out of singing on the album (though he still plays drums and harmonica), what exactly happened with that situation?

Ringo1VMan: Steven, for all his own good reasons, called us up and informed us we had to take him off the record...and good old Tom Petty stepped into the breach.

Question: Ringo, How does it feel when AOL describes you asLegendary?

Ringo1VMan: Why shouldn't they, it's true.

Question: I saw you last year with your All Starr band, which included Peter Frampton. Did you enjoy touring? Will you be touring the USA this year or next year?

Ringo1VMan: This year we're touring Europe and Russia and Pete's coming, and more than likely next year I'll be touring America again. But who knows.

Question: Love the new album, when's the next one coming out? ~Rachel Thanx!

Ringo1VMan: The band is sitting in the room with me...the Roundheads... and they all said ...jeez....let's get this one outfirst.

Question: Ringo seems to be the funny one, but yet reserved. Is he guarded regarding his life? Do you look forward to this new CD and the next generation of fans?

Ringo1VMan: He's guarded but open. Sure, keep it rolling. But I send love to the old fans...especially in places where they make little chairs.

Question: How is Zak's career going? We don't hear much abouthim.

Ringo1VMan: That must be because you're deaf .. he toured with the Who, performed with the British Rock Symphony and he's now with a band called the Lighting Seed who as we type are no. 1 in the Britishcharts.

AOLiveMC15: We have time for one more question...

Question: I got the bonus CD with the purchase of "Vertical Man" and was wondering why these songs weren't just included on the CD?

Ringo1VMan: Because we wanted to surprise you... and 17 tracks...because that's how many we recorded. We felt it would be too much info on one CD called the Vertical Man, so now when you go out to buy the next single.. which you can't buy right now... you will get the tracks that were not on the CD Vertical Man. I would like to thank you for being all so patient in sending in your questions... I love you all... peace, love and bananas... good night.
