DMX
Misses Court Date
A failure-to-appear bench warrant was issued for the rapper DMX who failed to
appear in a Cheektowaga, N.Y., courtroom Wednesday to answer to drug and traffic
violations that stem from a traffic stop there earlier this month.
The 28-year-old rapper will have to appear in court on a bench warrant sometime in April, according to a court clerk in Cheektowaga. He was detained and issued the warrant Wednesday in Houston, following a stop on the current Cash Money–Ruff Ryders tour. The tour, which also features Juvenile, Eve, Lil' Wayne, the LOX and others, ends April 17 in San Diego.
DMX was arrested in Cheektowaga on March 3 after a tour stop in nearby Buffalo, N.Y. Police said they stopped the rapper for speeding, discovered he was driving with a suspended license and found a small amount of marijuana, according to MTV News. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana and was released that night on $2,000 bail.

Beanie Sigel
Tells "The Truth" With Eve, Jay-Z
After
making a series of high-profile appearances on records from Jay-Z, Eve, Sisqo,
Foxy Brown, and Memphis Bleek, Philly rapper Beanie Sigel will finally release
his highly anticipated solo debut, "The Truth," on February 29.
Beanie has been working on "The Truth" on and off for the last year,
and he took breaks from the sessions in order to record guest spots on Jay-Z's
"Do It Again," Eve's "Philly Philly," and Memphis Bleek's
"My Hood To Your Hood," among others.
The studio detours enabled Sigel, aka The General, to enlist many of those same
artists to return the favor and step up to the mic for "The Truth,"
including Jay-Z, Eve, Scarface, and Memphis Bleek.
Jay-Z has also given
Sigel, who will be releasing "The Truth" on Jay's Roc-A-Fella Records,
a special bonus track, "Anything," a cut that Jay opted to include on
the international versions of "Vol. 3... Life And Times of S. Carter."
"Anything" has already been released to radio and TV outlets as
Jay-Z's new single, although the track will only be available in the U.S. on
"The Truth" album. For Beanie, his first "Truth" single will
be the double a-side "The Truth"/"Who Want What."

aliyah,
DMX, Ginuwine
Pitch In For "Romeo" LP
As Aaliyah gears up for the premiere of her new film, "Romeo Must
Die," a cavalcade of hip-hop and R&B stars, including Ginuwine,
Destiny's Child, and Timbaland & Magoo have all contributed fresh cuts to
the movie's soundtrack.
Mack 10, Joe, and Cash Money's BG also pitched in new tracks, and Aaliyah
herself has made several new contributions, including "Come Back In One
Piece," a song featuring DMX, who has a supporting role in the film.
Described as a modern-day retelling of "Romeo And Juliet," Aaliyah
stars in "Romeo Must Die" as Trish O'Day, the daughter of an American
crime boss who becomes romantically involved with Jet Li, the son of a rival
crime lord.
One of Aaliyah's songs, "Try Again," will be the first single from the
soundtrack, and the singer-actress plans to shoot an accompanying video with
director Wayne Isham.
The "Romeo Must Die" soundtrack is due in stores on March 21, while
the film will arrive in theaters on March 24.

With his solo album entrenched in the top ten and the Cash
Money/Ruff Ryders tour on the horizon, rapper DMX is currently in the midst of
an all-out media blitz of TV programs and outlets.
On February 12, DMX will travel to New York City and serve
as the musical guest on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." He will also tape
an upcoming appearance on the "Queen Latifah" show on February 17 and
18.
The rapper, whose "...And Then There Was X"
record will dig in at number seven on next week's "Billboard" album
chart, also plans to shoot episodes of UPN's "Moesha" sitcom as well
as BET's new series "Live From L.A." in the next few weeks. Air dates for the rapper's appearances on "Queen
Latifah," "Moesha," and "Live From L.A." are all still
pending.
In addition to his royalty checks, DMX will also be
picking up an award soon, as he will be named Entertainer Of The Year at the
14th Annual Soul Train Music Awards, being presented on March 4 at the Shrine
Auditorium in Los Angeles.
DMX's first two albums, "It's Dark And Hell Is
Hot" and "Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood" are still
charting in the "Billboard" Top 200, with the former having sold 3.6
million copies and the latter selling almost 2.8 million.
The Cash Money/Ruff Ryders Tour, featuring DMX, Juvenile,
Eve, The Hot Boys and The Lox, among others, is slated to begin on February 24
in Rochester, New York.

Humane Society Criticizes DMX
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the
nation's largest animal protection agency and the operator of animal adoption
centers in cities and towns across the country, issued a press release yesterday
denouncing the video for DMX's "What's My Name" for glamorizing
dogfighting.
The video shows snarling pitbulls in chains snapping at one another in what
appears to be a ring. The HSUS believes this image "glamorizes dogfighting
and perpetuates the stigma that all pit bulls are dangerous and, therefore,
unfit to have as pets." The video does not show actual dogfighting. DMX's
label, Island/Def Jam, emphasized that the dogs never engaged in fighting and
were not harmed.
DMX shows his love for dogs by sporting a dog tattoo, raising pit bulls,
featuring barking dogs on his multi-platinum-selling records and calling all his
best friends "dog." His second album "And Then There Was X"
was once tentatively titled "The Dog, The Man, The God."
Pit bulls have had a long and hard history in the U.S., particularly in recent
years in urban centers like New York City. In 1997, the NYPD and the Housing
Authority cooperated in sweeps of public housing projects to round up pit bulls.
Pit bull proponents argue that the pit bull terrier is an intelligent breed that
is not inherently vicious but must be taught to fight. Some owners train the
dogs as fighters in an attempt to make quick cash through illegal dogfighting.
Dogfighting is a felony offense in 44 states, and in 46 states, it is illegal to
be a spectator at a dogfight.
Pit bulls do have their supporters, including Loren Tapley, a volunteer animal
rescuer who heads the For Pit's Sake non-profit group, an animal rescue service
located in New York City. Tapley became enamored of the breed when she met a pit
bull as the ASPCA and tried to adopt the dog. Tapley has a soulmate in DMX, who
told MTV in May 1998 "I used to take dogs on the street. I used to bring
them home if I could, make somewhere for them to sleep right outside the
building. I had dogs as long as I could remember, you know."

DMX Bumps Celine From Top Of Album Chart
He didn't quite hit the lofty heights he was shooting for,
but DMX still scored big first week sales for his "And Then There Was
X," which will debut at number one on next week's "Billboard"
album chart.
The rapper's record label had hoped to sell more than one million copies of the
album in week one, but DMX actually racked up sales of more than 698,000 copies
in the CD's first week in stores according to SoundScan sales figures.
DMX, Aaliyah Go

If you can't wait until next spring to see DMX and Aaliyah
share the big screen with Chinese action star Jet Li in "Romeo Must
Die," you can head to the movie's official Web site and check out the
film's trailer.
Aaliyah plays Trish O'Day, the object of Jet Li's affection, in the amped-up
modern day retelling of "Romeo and Juliet" while DMX plays a member of
a rival crime family.

Aaliyah) recently went live at the movie's official Web site (at www.romeomustdie.net)

Coko Sings The Praises Of Eve, Collaboration Tapped For New Single:
For the second single off her new solo album, "Hot
Coko," former SWV singer Cheryl "Coko" Gamble has opted to use a
track called "Triflin'" which features one of hip-hop's hottest female
stars, Eve of the Ruff Ryders.
While working on her solo record, Coko said that she heard
Eve on one of the rapper's early guest appearances and was so impressed, she
decided then and there that Eve had to work with her on "Hot Coko."
"I heard [Eve] on the Blackstreet song
['Girlfriend/Boyfriend' with Janet Jackson]," Coko told the MTV Radio
Network, "and I was like, 'Who is this girl?' And I just liked her tone, I
liked her style, and she didn't sound like anybody else out there to me."
"I was like, 'I want her, we have to get her,'"
she added, "and I have [my record label] chasing all around town trying to
find her, and then she came down and she wrote her rap. It was quick and she did
a good job. I was happy."
"Triflin,'" follows "Sunshine," which
was the first single off of "Hot Coko." The album also features
contributions from R&B vocalist Tyrese and producer Rodney Jerkins.
Ja Rule To Help The Murderers Hit The Masses:
After finding breakthrough success with his debut album,
"Venni Vetti Vecci," Ja Rule is using his newfound mainstream juice to
help the rest of his crew.
The "Holla Holla" rapper will turn up alongside the rest of The
Murderers on "Irv Gotti Presents The Murderers," a collection due out
on Def Jam Records in February. In addition to Ja Rule, the album will also
feature tracks from Tah Murder, Blackchild, and The Murderers' female MC, Vita.
"[Murder Inc. Records CEO] Gotti came up with the name," Ja Rule told
the MTV Radio Network recently of his crew's unique moniker. "He was
watching the A&E specials on the 'Gangsters Week,' and they had the Murder
Inc. [show]. And the Murder Inc. was a mob unit back in the days. It was Meyer
Lansky, Lucky Luciano, and Bugsy Siegel, and you know, a few others."
"Their job was to come up and clean up the competition," he continued,
"and they were never traced or nothing. They just left it blank. And that
was the original concept of The Murderers: just gonna make an album with no
pictures, no radio songs, no videos, no nothing. Just music."
Who knew A&E's Bill Curtis had such an influence on hip-hop culture?
The first salvo from The Murderers will arrive in February.

Blige, Jadakiss of The Lox, and Elvis Costello. The movie is expected to release

The North and South will
unite on an all-star tour in early 2000 when DMX and the rest of the Ruff Ryders
crew hook up with Juvenile and his Cash Money family for a joint tour. The
outing, sponsored by "The Source" magazine, will feature Ruff Ryders
DMX, Eve, Swizz Beatz, Drag-On, and The Lox, alongside Cash Money rappers
Juvenile, Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne, Turk, B.G., and The Big Tymers. The Ruff Ryders/Cash
Money tour is currently slated to begin on February 9 in Providence, Rhode
Island and will make its way around North America before wrapping up on April
15.
According to a representative of the Ruff Ryders camp, more dates may also be
added. If the past year is any indication, the tour should be a sell out;
hip-hop had its most successful year on the road in 1999 with Jay-Z's Hard Knock
Life Tour, which also featured DMX.
