"It's gonna rain," he said, his voice breaking through my thoughts and disturbing the silence.
I looked up, shrugging indifferently.
"Cumulonimbus clouds. Sure sign."
I nodded to appease him, and went back to my drawing. The pencil glided smoothly across the paper, shadowing the perfect contours of his face. I was only vaguely aware of his warm body laying next to mine, but my head snapped to attention as I felt his cool fingers on my hips.
"You are so beautiful," he whispered, and I felt his gaze on me.
"Stop," I said, blushing.
"You are," he protested, pushing a strand of my long hair behind my ear.
I sighed, and let him have his way, not enough energy in me to argue. I could feel his eyes on me again, but I ignored the gaze.
His hands traveled over my stomach, softly rubbing the exposed skin.
I knew he wanted my attention, but my pencil kept shadowing, my memory supplying the detail. I chewed on my lip thoughtfully, the pencil laying across the sketch carefully.
In one brief second, he moved his hand, scooping the book off my lap and laying it behind him. My eyes locked with his, wordlessly asking for an explanation.
"Come lay with me," he said, his eyes begging.
His eyes shouldn't beg. He should be supplied with everything in the world he could possibly want, and more.
With that in mind, I complied, and moved my body down next to him, curling inward slightly.
"Don't be afraid of me," he whispered, his voice barely audible against the strains of the wind.
I snuggled into him for comfort, breathing in deeply. My eyes fluttered close as I nuzzled into his chest, exhaling slowly.
"That's it," he said, smiling gently as his strong arms encircled me.
I felt safe inside his arms. Safer than I'll probably ever feel in anyone elses arms. He held a comfort no one will ever match, I'm sure. Slowly, my mind drifted off, and I stared into space, several random thoughts tumbling through my mind.
Minutes (that felt like hours) later, his hand brought me back to consciousness once again, softly caressing my cheek. "I love you." His breath tickled my face and I smiled lazily, turning my head to kiss his palm.
"I love you too," I replied, kissing along his jaw. I sighed contently, resting my head on his shoulder.
"Mmm. Good," was his reply, his hands rubbing the small of my back and toying with the hem of my shirt.
I let his hands play, enjoying the feel of his cool palms splayed across my back.
I love days like these.
