Sault Storm blow the final, wind helps with lone field goal
The Storm end 'the great season finish' on a bad trip in Hamilton. Sault lose 38-3 to Oakville Longhorns.
The Sault Storm were looking to do something to the Oakville Longhorns no other Northern Football Conference team has done in the last couple of years - actually beat them and win a game. They accomplished this feat at home earlier in the year's but had lost the last regular season game against the team in Oakville. But supposedly all bets were of when the teams met at the Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, a neutral site despite its ties with the Oakville team from Burlington.
The Storm of 2000 looked as if they had just started the season, rather than the mature group seen mid-season and at the end of the regular season. Muffing up the opening kickoff was just one of the many gaffes the team made. No doubt, the loss they were given this Twelveth of August will be felt until the next time a Sault Ste. Marie team, whether Steeler, Storm or something else, reaches another final.
Next season, it is expected the Northern Football Conference will expand with the over 21 serious franchise offers sent in to the SaultStormSite from various cities in Ontario, Michigan and New York. The Oakville Longhorns will now advance to the Canadian Senior Football League's Shrine Bowl, which was announced earlier this year first here at the SaultStormSite. The SaultStormSite extends a hand to all member franchises of the Northern Football Conference, the Canadian Senior Football League and wishes everyone a great remainder of the year 2000 and happy new expanded CSFL-NFC 2001! Also, the CSFL-NFC message board and guest book will remain open all year long for everyone's enjoyment, have fun!
