Solid as a rock, been there through thick and thin. The
Sudbury Spartans have always been in the league from
word go but in 1954 the word was Sudbury Hardrocks, who
joined up, along with North Bay Roughriders, Kirkland
Lake Alouettes and Tri-Town (Cobalt, Haileybury, New
Liskeard) Raiders to form the original charter for the
NFC, which at the time was the NORFU. They stayed this
until the year of our nation's centennial, 1967, when
the Sudbury Spartans replaced those 'Rockers. Being the
most consistent team in the league has its privileges
and one is that you have the best chance of winning more
championships than anyone else in the league. Being just
that the Blue, Silver and White are currently led by
President/G.M. Frank Pagnucco, who along with young Head
Coach Gord Goddard, have currently had some hardships
on Queen's Athletic Field. The 1997 season has to be the
worse for Sudbury, going 0-10, 6th and last place and
missing the playoffs completely. The Spartans, never to
die, got a win in 1998, going 1-7 along with the Soo,
but again due to point differential, came out last at 5th, didn't make the post season. Again, though
defeated, Sudbury came back with a vengance, going 3-5, gaining 3rd spot of 4 but coming short in the playoffs, losing the semi to the Raiders.
