St. Anthony's Invite
The St. Anthony's Invitational once again
proved to be of the finest meets we see on Long Island.
Competitors from all over New York State, and even a team from
Connecticut came to race. And race was just what everyone did.
Some of the best times of the season were ran during this two day
running fiesta, most notably the Boys 400m Dash, which included
NYS Best Carlos Bedoya and #2 in NYS Paul Moser, both running
state leading times.
Derrick Adkins Classic
The meet made by a champion
(Derrick Adkins ~ '96 Olympian) for a whole bunch of champions.
Held on a hot and sunny afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic
Complex, this meet brought together the finest public school's
from Nassau County, and the feared teams from the NSCHSAA: the
Flyers and Friars. In lou of the Penn Relays, some of the top
runners did not compete at top velocity, however, times were
still very fast. The boys mile was one of the best races, as
Colin Martin and Brendan Brown finished 2-3 behind the oh so
arrogant Paul Curilys of Walt Whitman HS./p>
Nassau Coaches Meet
Massapequa High School oncg
again sponsored the Nassau Coaches Invitational. The results show
slow winning times, but each race was still very exciting. This
is one of the few meets that brings together boys and girls, with
Varsity ~ Sophmore ~ Freshman races. Pries and Howard dominated
the mile, and Mike Yatco and John Koehler raced considerably well
in the 3000m Steeple Chase, which did not have any steeples.
Suffolk Coaches Meet
Held at Mt. Sinai High
School on a very windy afternoon, the Suffolk Coaches meet
yielded interesting results. Some races were very fast, as others
were irregularly very slow. Wind was obviously the deciding
factor, and should be considered when compaping winning times
from these races to other races throughout the year. Flyer
highlights were: Didier LeCorps winning the discus in a meet
record throw, and Bob Howard won the 1500m in timely fashion.
Greg Pries won the novice steeple chase, with Goodrich close
behind in 3rd.
Carey Relays
The Franklin Carey Memorial
Relays were held at Carey High School in Franklin Square. High
winds and poor organization created great hardships for all
runners. Some races were called for check in up to three hours
before they went off. However, the Flyers still dominated all
competition. Varsity took gold in both the DMR and SMR, and the
top Flyer time of the day was Brendan Brown's 4:36 mile split on
the first place 4 x 1 mile team.
NSCHSAA Relay Carnival
The first meet of the season brought some unexpected results. The
Flyers showed the competition what they will soon face in League
Championships in May. The Soph 4x100m of Yuen-Ebbecke-Martins-Gallagher
took first place in :48.7. Pete Garafalo set the Junior School
Record in 400 IM with a :57.3 clocking. Soph 4 x 400m of Leone-Goetz-Martins-Henry
also took first place, in 3:43.7
CHSAA CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
1999 Frosh Indoor Champs
A heartbreaker...
Flyers place an unexpected 6th, diminishing their hopes to win
their first intersectional track championship. Goodrich placed
fourth in the 3200m, followed by Howard (2nd) in the mile, and
Luke Krisch (5th) in the 1000m. The Frosh 4 x 800m placed 2nd
behihnd Mt. St Michael. Note: Magaldi: become a distance runner!
And Goodrich: don't run 4 x 800m "A" team anymore!
1999 Frosh Outdoor Champs
Could this be the start
of a CHSAA winning streak for the Flyers? I think it is... The
Flyers topple Molloy by a staggering two and a half points...
winning their first CHSAA Championship on the track. CHSAA
Champions Brian Goodrich ~ Robert Howard ~ Joe Gallagher racked
up 18 points in just 3 events!!
2000 Soph Indoor Champs
Facing a pathetic
performance from the year before, the Flyers this time came ready
to race their competition. Howard won the 1000, Magaldi won the
1600, and Mike Yatco came out of his shell and finished 2nd in
the 3200m. Paul Leone ran an incredible 2nd place finish in the
600m, and the Flyers 4x800m finally took first in CHSAA
Championship competition after 2 attempts Freshman year.
2000 Soph Outdoor Champs
