she would do it again if the chance was given.
This story begins by following the
legendary Wah Dai Fu (Dr. Wah). A famous doctor for saving people that are near
death. Although he had a strange personality, he only saved people when he felt
like it...therefore causing him to have a lot of enemies as well as admirers.
His wife was very distraught by her husband's attitude towards his patients; she
warned him that one day things will not go his way. Afterall, they had their two
children to worry about. The elder was a boy at age 11 named Wah Siu Lung and
the girl 9 named Wah Yu Lin.
The king had heard of this famous
doctor and decided to keep him inside the Ging Sing (kingdom). Wah Dai Fu
decided to take his offer...but as his fate turns out, the king wanted him to
save his most beloved wife. Due to Wah Dai Fu's stubborness, he said 'no'. The
king was shocked for no one dared say 'no' to his orders. Unfortunately none of
the other doctors in the kingdom could save the queen. Soon she died from an
unknown cause. The king was furious as he announced to his men to capture the
Wah family with his servants, they were to be sentenced to death the next day!
The soldiers marched straight to the
Wah's home and read the king's order. So everyone was taken to jail...except the
younger daughter. They couldn't find her anywhere, as it turned out she had
stolen her father's most prized medicine book to read. She knew she would get in
trouble if she got caught so she snuck out of the house, but little did she know
that by being a naughty girl, it would save her life. The king's men searched
the whole kingdom but could not find the little girl. They were forced to return
to the kingdom with empty hands. The king was annoyed by his men's uselessness,
so he announced that if this girl is found anywhere in the kingdom, she shall be
put in jail for life.
The next day Wah Dai Fu, his wife, the
young boy and the servants were beheaded. It was a strange site because half of
the crowd cheered on this cruel punishment as the other half cried out to their
life saver....but this wasn't the end of the Wah family, there was a strong
little girl standing near a tree hiding so no one could see. Tears rolled down
her cheeks as she watched her family being killed. What will she do now?
Suddenly a soldier spotted her and yelled "There she is!!"...she ran
as quick as she could but he caught up to her easily, he was about to strike her
with his sword when out of no where a masked women jumped out and saved the
little girl. They quickly disappeared into the woods....
Chapter 1
The young girl wore a blue dress and a matching hankerchief hiding half her face
walked down the busy village. As she crossed the bulletin board where the
soldiers post up any news about the kingdom, she noticed an order from the king
to catch the daughter of Wah Dai Fu, with a prize of $100,000. She quickly
turned around and walked towards the forest to return to her home. As she walked
carefully as to not step on any animal traps, she heard some footsteps nearby
following her. She cautiously turned around and found 6 men dressed like robbers
from Suet San (snow mountain).
The head guy eyed her up and down and
said "Well, if it isn't a pretty little girl, can I take you home?" As
if this was funny to the other guys, they laughed out loud.
The girl glared at them and prepared
herself for a fight when a young guy jumped from a tree branch nearby where he
was resting. "Miss don't worry, they can't hurt you if Im around".
Annoyed at his arrogance, she crossed
her arms and tilt her head to the side and watched as he fought with the six
men. To her suprised he was very good, he could easily beat them. So she turned
around and ran off into the woods.
The young guy yelled as he fought off
his attackers "Hey, where are you going?! There are alot of traps around
here!!"
Ignoring him, she continued on her way
thinking 'I've lived here half of my life, I know where every trap is'...as she
thought this, she accidentally stepped into a bear trap. Her left foot bleeding
quickly, she yelled out in pain and bent down to open the trap. 'Poison!' She
knew what it was by the tingling feeling of her feet as it started to numb.
Footsteps came up behind her and she quickly limped and hid behind a nearby tree. The young guy called out "Miss, where are you? Are you alright?" He noticed the trap a foot away and saw all the blood, he looked around for any signs and saw a trail of blood leading to a nearby tree. He walked over and noticed that the girl was holding her foot.
He quickly bent down to look at her
foot, but to his dismay, she pushed him away "Get away from me, I don't
need your help!"
"Of course you do! You're
bleeding...look the sun is going down soon and your foot doesn't look too good.
Just let me help you." he said.
Before she could push him again, he
picked her up with his strong arms and ran to a nearby village. He found a tiny
clinic and knocked on the door. A sleepy elder man opened the door "Yes?
We're closed."
The young man ignored him and pushed
his way through the door and placed her on the patient bed "This lady has
been hurt, can you help her?"
The doctor felt like he had no choice
so he looked at her damaged foot "Its poison, she won't live. Go get her a
coffin." He proceed to push them out again.
Outraged by this man's careless
feelings, the young guy pulled out his sword and placed it on his neck, "If
you don't save her, I will kill you."
Suddenly the old doctor changed his
tone of voice "yes..yes, I was just kidding...don't be so serious" he
bent down again to look at the blood which turned darker, almost black now.
The girl looked at him and said
"Its Hak Mok Duk." The doctor surprised at her quick perception of the
poison. He walked back to the shelf and got the medicine to cure the poison.
"How did you know what kind of
poison it was?" he asked.
She smiled slyly at the old man and
said "Im a doctor too."
Suprised at this, he asked "where are you from? Ive never seen you before."
"I live in Black Meadow
Village." The old man's face turned red and he suddenly became really
angry.
"You're that girl! Wah Yu Lin,
you're father refused to save my wife 15 years ago and now Im living by myself.
He did nothing as she was on her death bed. I don't want anything to do with
you. Get out of my place and I will not help you either. Get your own
medicine!" The young man was confused to see this angry man. Afterall, it
was her father that didn't help his wife, what did she ever do to him?
"Look, its late and we have no
where to go. I will pay for the medicine." He just wanted her to be okay,
so he could be on his way. He hated to leave things undone.
"I don't need your help!" Yu
Lin (Noel) yelled at the old man. "or yours!" she looked at the young
man. She was about to get up when the guy blocked her way.
"I took you here and I will make
sure you're okay." He turned to the doctor. "If you want to keep your
head you will save this girl. We're staying for one night and I promise you we
will leave first thing in the morning. I'll make it worth your while." The
doctor stormed into his room.
"My name is Chan Gin Fei (Louis), by the way". He walked to the table and got the medicine for Yu Lin. "So you're the all famous young girl the king has been searching for the past ten years? Ive heard alot about your father..." He passed her the medicine.
"Do you want to take me to the
kingdom so you could claim your prize?" she said sarcastically. "Hmph,
everyone's first impression of me is evil because my father didn't save their
family members. Yet they never stopped to think that I had nothing to do with my
father's decision." She was so angry at all these people, thats why she
lives in a deserted village, so no one could bother her. She hasn't met anyone
that her father saved yet...
"No, I have enough money with me.
Anyways, I understand where you're coming from. Its not easy living by yourself
with no family around." He looked so sincere, but she still had doubts
about this stranger.
She coldy asked, "how would you
know?"
"Im an orphan." Her eyes
looked down with embarrassment, she didn't expect that. He has such nice clothes
and he looks well groomed and with his kung fu skills, she would have guessed he
was raised in a high status family. "Its getting late, you better get some
rest. I will take you back to your village and I'll be out of your hair" It
was the first time he joked with her.
She smiled under her veil, too bad he
couldn't see it. Yu Lin lied down and drifted off to sleep. Gin Fei sat next to
the bed and fell asleep also.
A few hours later, the old doctor sneaked out with a knife in his hand. He wanted to avenge his wife's death...'since Wah Dai Fu is dead, I'll kill his daughter.' He held up the knife ready to stab her when Gin Fei stopped him mid way and pushed him away. "What do you think you're doing?! I guess you're ready to die aren't you?" He pulled out his sword and waved it at the man. The old man got scared and ran back into his room.
Gin Fei looked at Yu Lin, wondering if
all the noise woke her up. She was peacefully sleeping. He smiled and went back
to his place by her bed.
Yu Lin heard the whole thing, she was
actually awake when the doctor tried to kill her. But somehow she trusted her
new 'bodyguard' that he would save her.
The next morning, Gin Fei opened his
eyes at the sight of the sun coming up, he turned over to check on Yu Lin and
was stunned to see her gone. A little note lied on the bed that read: 'Thank
you. I will repay you one day.'" He smiled at the special note, he folded
it and placed it in his shirt. He picked up his sword and left the tiny clinic
on his way back to the woods. Just another night until he reach the kingdom, his
destination.
Chapter 2
Gin Fei (Louis) has been travelling for two days and one night non-stop. He
finally made it to the kingdom. He was about to walk into a busy restaurant for
breakfast when a masked person blocked his way. "Are you Chan Gin Fei?"
The stranger had a weird posture, like they were trying to act strong and bold.
"Yes, can I help you?" he
thought to himself 'Si Mui, you can't trick me'. Before he could let out her
identity, she attacked him with her sword. He carefully dodged each stroke
without pulling out his sword. He wasn't about to play her little game. When he
thought enough was enough, he swiftly pulled her veil off, smiling wickedly
"Siu Si Mui, Ive played this game too many times to lose. Don't you ever
learn", he wagged his finger in her direction.
Pouting, Lam Fa Fa (Joyce Dang) answered "I'll get you one day Si Hing!" She quickly skipped to him smiling "guess who's coming to see you?" He shrugged his shoulder and started his way to the restaurant again. "Come on, guess, just one guess." He continued to ignore her, he knew she could never keep a secret. "The princess!!...gosh, you're no fun."
The waiter came by with a pot of tea
"What would you like to eat sir?"
"Steam buns and rice porridge,
please". Gin Fei turned to his little Si Mui, "So, its not like Ive
never seen her before." He poured a cup of tea for her and himself.
"She said she had important news
she wanted to tell you." He looked at her puzzled, why would the princess
need to see me? "Maybe she wants to propose to you." Fa Fa joked.
Gin Fei looked around quickly
"Don't joke about this kind of stuff, we're in the kingdom!" The food
came and he quickly ate his food. He glanced at Fa Fa "Why aren't you
eating?"
She made a funny face "I hate porridge and the steam buns here have no flavor". He rolled his eyes, she's so picky, she's more like a princess then Princess Ching Ching!
The two walked to the entrance of the
king's palace when one of the guards stopped them. "You cannot enter"
Gin Fei, with an exasperated look on his face pulled out the gold medallion that
the Princess gave to him and showed it to the guard. He quickly stepped aside
"Please enter, sir".
The walked to the many corridors of
the palace. After many years, he still get lost. "Fa Fa, get over here!
This is the palace, its not home. Don't be running around". She stuck her
tongue out at him but quickly returned to his side.
"Its been a long time Fei Gor"
He turned around and saw the princess in her pink and gold dress, she looked so
innocent and cute. He quickly kneeled in her presence as any commoner would.
Seeing that Fa Fa didn't respond, he yanked her down to the ground. "How do
you do, my princess."
Princess Ching Ching (Charmaine Sheh)
walked over briskly and motioned Gin Fei and Fa Fa to stand up. "Don't be
so polite with me, there's no one around". She smiled at Fa Fa, "And
who is this lovely lady?"
"Oh I picked her up from the
street, I don't even know who she is" he kidded. Seeing Fa Fa's flashing
her evil eye to him made him laugh. "No, no, she's my Si Mui. I guess she
sneaked out here without our Si Fu (Master) knowing."
"Well, welcome to the palace, let me take you around" The Princess led the way and took them straight to the king (Kong Wah). Gin Fei, surprised because he's never met the king. He quickly kneeled at the King's presence and Fa Fa did so too copying what he did.
"Your majesty" The king
sitting on his golden thrown waved at them to stand up.
"So my sister (nodding at the
Princess) has told me quite a few good things about you. As you heard about the
Mongolians trying to take over our land up north. Ive been trying to recruit
some good people to help me lead the army and protect the people as well as the
land there. Ching Ching says you are a master at kung fu as well as techniques
and strategies of war."
"Oh, the princess speaks too
highly of me. Iam not capable of such great things" Gin Fei was being
modest, in truth, he was a warrior at heart.
"So you're saying the Princess is
lying to me" The king teased.
"Oh...I didn't...mean, no" he stammered. When he noticed that the Princess and the King exchanged michevious grins he knew they were joking.
"I trust that my little sister
here has a good eye for people. I know her judgement is good. I have a project
for you. If you agree, I would like for you to work with Hui Ga Wai, the son of
the prominent General Hui. With both of you on this project, I will feel much
better."
"But you're majesty, I have no
experience in doing this" Gin Fei didn't know what would happen if he
declined.
"Thats why Iam using your mind along with Hui Ga Wai's experience to work together on this. So is it settled, you have agree I presume" The King gave him no choice.
"Yes, your highness." Gin
Fei looked at the Princess for reassurance. She smiled kindly with a slight nod
of her head.
Chapter 3
After the King dismissed Gin Fe and Fa Fa, he asked for Princess Ching Ching to
stay back. "Wong Mui, do you really trust this guy? I mean he even admitted
that he has no experience let alone manage a whole army."
Reassuring the king "Its okay,
Ive know him for many years now while travelling to find help for you, he never
onced asked who I was. And when I told him I was the princess, he wasn't shocked
nor asked my why I lied to him."
"Did you wink at him?" He
teased his little sister, "I mean just one look from a beautiful girl, any
man's heart will melt. Besides, my little sis is adorable!" She blushed at
his comments, he was always complimenting her eventhough she never thought she
was 'pretty'.
"No, I didn't have to. He was
willing to help his country. He is a man of honor and he's saved my life
numerous times, I believe he will keep his word." As they were talking,
there was a mysterious person leering and listening to their conversation 'She
can always convince the King to do anything she wants!' Burning inside was
jealousy and envy, she quickly walked away.
Outside the King's office. "Si
Hing, you're really going on this mission?" She picked up a stick and
started using kung fu on the near by tree, pretending to fight it.
He grabbed the stick from her hand and
threw it aside, "Yes, Ive known the princess for quite some time now and if
our kingdom needs help I will do all I can. Remember what Si Fu has taught us?
Be loyal to your country." Fa Fa rolled her eyes, mimicking Gin Fei's
words.
"Well, Im coming along with you." He gave her a 'no-you're-not' look. "But Si Hing, its so boring at Si Fu's place, he just sits there and read all day. I want to travel!"
"And you're a girl, why can't you
be normal and take up cross-stitching or play the flute? Stop calling him Si Fu,
he's your dad for goodness sakes. Ive never heard of a daughter who doesn't call
her father!" He was about to scold her some more when the Princess came
out.
"Fei Gor, the King has asked for
both of you to stay here tonight and he will introduce you to Hui Cong Zi (Mr.
Hui) tomorrow." He nodded and followed her as she led him to one of the
hundred guest rooms in the palace. "Lam Siu Je (Miss Lam), your room is
next door."
"Thank you." they both said.
"I will wake you in the morning,
good night." She courteously smiled at her guests and walked away.
At night. A blacked masked person
jumped on the roof. Moving swiftly across the roof top and suddenly stopped
above the Princess's room. Pulling a piece of the cemented roof aside, she
dropped down string tied to a tiny blue flowered container filled with Yim Fa
Duk (a special poison that she made herself) into the Princess's tea cup. As
quick as the person came, they disappeared into the dark night.
The next morning, the Princess woke
up, she had her usual cup of tea to wake her up. Not knowing that it was
poisoned she gulped the whole cup down. She had a lot of stuff to do so she must
hurry. Suddenly, she felt a pang of pain in her stomach. She fell to the ground
unconscious.
Gin Fei was wide awake and ready to
meet his new partner when he opened his room door. He noticed a bunch of
soldiers as well as doctors running towards the Princess's suite. He quickly
followed wondering what was going on. When he got to her room, he was stopped by
a guard "Sorry, you cannot see the Princess, the doctors are in there with
her." He was still confused when an elderly lady and a young guy around his
age stepped in front of the guard.
"I want to see the
Princess". She looked like a regular old women but spoke with alot of
power. The guard thought for a minute and allowed the two to come in. Gin Fei
stood there wondering who they were, he knew he couldn't enter the room so he
stood outside patiently.
Inside the room, "Po Po, Lung Gor
you came to see me?" The Princess weakly said as she tried to get up.
"Don't be silly, lie down, you're
sick for goodness sakes!" She helped the Princess sit up. She turned to the
doctors, "How is she?"
"She's really sick, we don't know
what's wrong." they said weakly as they looked at the angry King, who was
quiet the whole time staring out the window in the corner of the room.
The old lady and Siu Lung (Frankie
Lam) embarrassed that they didn't notice the king standing there the whole time,
knelt down "You're majesty, forgive us, we didn't see you."
The King's angry face turned softer,
"Please stand up, Po Po. I told you before not to be so polite, after all
you're the one that raised Ching Ching and I." He turned to Siu Lung,
"Nice to see you again." Funny that Siu Lung has been living with his
grandma for so long yet he has only met the King a few times. His grandma always
made up excuses so Siu Lung couldn't see the King. He always questioned why but
she would just change the subject.
"I don't know what to do, all
these useless so-called doctors can't even save her!" The King angrily
said. The men looked down in shame.
"Don't blame them, Wong Gor.
They've tried their best. Is Fei Gor outside?" The King quickly called for
Chan Gin Fei.
Gin Fei enters and before he could
kneel down the King gestured him to not kneel. "The Princess wanted to see
you." He turned to the Princess.
"I remember you mentioned that
you recently met a girl that was a doctor." Recalling her conversation with
him the other day about his encounter with Yu Lin. Gin Fei nodded. "Can we
look for her?"
"You know someone that could save
Ching Ching?" The King asked. At the same time, he wondered if this girl
could save his wife. He lost one ten years ago and he wasn't about to lose one
again. "We will hold this project aside, what's most important is that you
find this girl and bring her here so she could save the Princess."
"I will have to take the Princess
along and it takes a few days to get their, Im worried that the Princess can't
handle the distance."
"No, it looks like the poison is
a slow one. It will take as long as a month to travel into her heart. She will
be okay for a while." Everyone turned to Siu Lung, suprised that he knew a
little about medicine. Po Po gave him a worried look and he quickly explained
"Im just guessing because if it was really poisonous, she would have died
by now" The King and Po Po gave him a stern look at his ridiculous answer.
"Thats very true." The
Princess tried to help him. Seeing that everyone's attention was on Siu Lung.
She was very fond of him and didn't like it when people picked on him. Which was
very often because he was so nice.
"Well, its settled then, Chan Gin
Fei, you will take the Princess to this girl doctor and bring her back safely.
And ask the doctor if she would come to the palace so I can thank her
myself." Gin Fei was a little concerned, afterall he didn't know Yu Lin
that well, yet. He doesn't even know if she will save the Princess, she has a
little of her dad's weird personality in her.
"Yes, your majesty, I will go
pack now." He went back to his room to look for Fa Fa, "Si Mui, I have
a little mission to go to, you be a good girl and go home okay?"
Confused, "What happened and why
do I have to leave?" She didn't know what the commotion was all about.
"Nevermind that, I'll explain
later, but you have to go home now because I won't be here for a while. Unless
you want to stay here by yourself." Gin Fei finished packing and picked up
his sword about to leave.
"Okay! I'll go home, but let me
know when you come back okay?" She wrinkled her forehead with suspicion.
"This better be good."
Gin Fei escorted the Princess as they
walked out of the King's Palace. Fa Fa had left a little earlier. It was going
to be a tough journey. He doesn't even know where or how to find Yu Lin. So he
went towards the little village where he first met her...
Chapter 4
Yu Lin, dressed in a green dress this time was in her home mixing some medicine
when she heard some noise outside her door. The village is empty, who would come
around here? She always enjoyed her peace and quite in the little town so she
was annoyed at all the noise.
She opened her door "Whats going on". She saw an elder lady with a young child around 9 years old.
The Soldiers ignored Yu Lin and pushed the two people to the ground, one of them yelled "And stay here, we don't need sick people in our kingdom!" The women and child cried in pain. The older woman began to cough hard, she even spit out some blood. They looked up at the girl, who stood there motionless as she watched the scene. She glanced down and walked back into her home. "Miss, can you help us, please" the little girl cried.
Yu Lin turned to the girl, her heart softened "Yes, come in" The old lady and the girl walked into her home and noticed how warm and cozy it was. They were told by the Soldiers that they had to go to deserted town and wait for death. Yet there was a home so nice. "Sit down here" she pointed to a nearby chair. Yu Lin took a seat across from the old lady. "Put out your hand" She measured her heart beat with her fingers and noticed that it was speeding up and slowing down uncontrollably. 'That's strange, Ive never known anything like this' she thought to herself.
She got up and brought out her acupuncture needles. "Lie on that bed" nodding her head towards the patient bed. The old lady did as she was told. Yu Lin quickly performed acupunture on the lady's arm. There was no disease she could not cure, so she was confident about this one too. As she got up, she walked over to her medicine shelves and picked out a few powered medicine that she collected. She mixed a few together and put it in hot tea. She motioned for the lady to drink the medicine. "You should be cured if you continue to drink this for a few more days. My home is not a hotel, so I won't allow you to stay here. There's a nearby village pass the tiny forest, you can stay there.
The old women thanked her profusely. She saved her life within a few hours! She walked out with her daughter and thought 'Such a pretty girl, but why is she so cold?' They continued to walk on.
A mile away.
Gin Fei helped the Princess as they carefully walked through the forest. He was familiar with it because his Si Fu's home is nearby. It was also the same forest where he met Yu Lin. 'I wonder how she is?' Breaking his concentration of Yu Lin, he quickly turned back to see how the Princess was doing. She was getting more pale, he just hoped that he can find Yu Lin.
The forest came to an abrupt stop and there was an empty village, which looked like a ghost town. He looked around and called out "Anyone here?!" No one answered, just his echo bouncing back. Just as he was going to walk some more. He saw a beautiful young girl walking by with a basket in her hands. It looked like she was ready to go shop for food or pick something. "Miss, can you tell me where Wah Yu Lin lives?"
'Chan Gin Fei, what is he doing here? And who is that girl' she thought, 'must be his girlfriend, boy she looks pretty sick'. She pretended not to hear and continued to walk on when he blocked her way. She looked up at him expressionless. "Yes?"
He sighed with relief, "So you can talk, can you help us, we're looking for a young girl named Wah Yu Lin". There was something familiar about her but he couldn't point it out.
"She died a few days ago" She said coldly. Walking to the side as she tried to dodge his concerned look.
"What?" he blocked her way again. She looked at him with annoyance. "How did this happened? Who killed her? Where's her body?". He didn't know who this girl was but she wasn't helping at all.
"Does it matter? She's already dead!" She said unreasonably.
"Well, do you know of any doctor around here?" He was getting really annoyed.
"Go look at that village down there" she said pointing towards the woods. "Sorry, I have stuff to do" Before he could stop her again, she walked away.
"Princ...I mean Ching Ching, please stay here, I don't want to make you walk anymore. We've been traveling too long. If you need me, just let this signal out and I'll be there in a second" She nodded and smiled at his genuine concern. He ran off into the woods.
Yu Lin came back as she saw him leave. "Nice boyfriend you got there." The Princess looked up from her seat on the nearby steps.
"He's not my boyfriend. Actually, I don't even think he likes me, maybe just as a friend." She smiled "So you're the famous the doctor that Fei Gor couldn't stop talking about right?" Suprised at how clever this girl was, Yu Lin turned away so she didn't see her blush.
"No, I don't know what you're talking about." She tried to walk away.
"Whatever happened between you two is really none of my business. Im about to die anyways, does it really matter what I know?" Yu Lin stopped abruptly, turned around and faced the sick girl.
"You're not that sick, yet. I can still save you in a few weeks. Looks like the poison isn't in your heart yet." Puzzled, the Princess thought, thats what Lung Gor said. She quickly shrugged it off, maybe he was just lucky.
Gin Fei returned half an hour later with an elder man carrying a medicine box. "There, she's the sick one" The old man stopped when he saw Yu Lin.
"You have her, why do you need me?" Confused Gin Fei looked at Yu Lin. "She's a great doctor!".
"Oh Doctor Hung, you're so modest. You've save quite a few lives too" She smiled kindly at the old doctor.
"Yu Lin ah, you're the modest one. Ive had so many patients that came to me and I had to send them to you." Gin Fei looked back at Yu Lin in disbelief. That was her! But why..."Well, I can't help anyone here, I'll just go".
"You.... but why didn't you tell me?" He was stunned and a little embarrassed as he didn't even know that was Yu Lin. She smiled slyly.
"I was just playing with you, seems like you're friend here caught on way before you did". They both looked at the Princess. Yu Lin walked over and helped the Princess up and led her into her home. "Have a seat, let me take a look at your heart beat." She had a look of concern on her face. "When were you poisoned?"
"About a week ago." Gin Fei answered.
"I wasn't asking you" Yu Lin said sarcastically. She turned to the Princess with a questioned look as if his answer wasn't good enough.
"Fei Gor is correct." She could feel the tension between them. 'What is going on with these two?' she thought.
"Chan Gung Zi, please leave at once" She looked at him when he didn't budge. "Well, unless you don't mind seeing your 'friend' here naked, you can stay. But please ask her for permission" Yu Lin smartly said.
Blushing "Of course". He clumsily walked outside, tripping on the door step. The girls giggled.
Again, Yu Lin used acupuncture on the Princess back. If you know where the pressure point is, just one little needle can kill someone. She had the Princess hand hangin off the side of the bed. She quickly pricked a finger with a needle, allowing the poisonous blood to flow out of her system. After a few hours, the Princess was completly cured. Wiping away her sweat, Yu Lin opened the door "You're beloved is okay now."
Gin Fei once again blushed "She's not my beloved." 'Why does she keep assuming that?' "Thank you, you have done a great deed".
She rolled her eyes "I do this every day. But I must say, who ever came up with this poison was very smart. I think it was a distraction."
"Why do you say that" she was alot smarter than he thought.
"Well, the poison will eventually kill her, but its a very slow kind. It slowly takes over her immune system then her heart. But this will take at least a month. I'd figure, maybe the person that poisoned her tried to keep you two away from where ever you came from so they could do some damage?" Yu Lin always had an eye for suspicion. But this time, she was right on the nose.
"Damn, the King" Gin Fei mumbled. He quickly ran inside. "Ching Ching, wake up, we have to go back, the King's in danger". He tried to shake her.
Yu Lin followed him inside standing there with her arms crossed, "What king? And you won't be able to wake her up, she's worn out. You have to let her rest. You're a kingdom person? Some kind of General or what?" She said in disgust. She had promised on her her Parents and brother's grave that she would have nothing to do with the King or his people.
"She's the princess, the King is her brother" With his look of concern, he turned to Yu Lin "Why are you so angry with the King?" Boy, her attitude sure changes fast, he thought.
"If I knew she was a princess, I wouldn't have saved her. Take her out and go away, I don't want to see you again. I guess my deed has been payed off to you then, I don't owe you anything!" She held the door open. Gin Fe stood up in defiant, not moving one step. "Fine, I'll go then!" She stormed out.
"Its getting dark, where are you
going?" He called out to her, but she kept running. He debated as he should
chase after her or not, he couldn't leave the princess. So he decided to stay,
but he was still worried about Yu Lin. 'A girl with no kung fu...I hope she'll
be okay...'
Chapter 5
Yu Lin stopped and leaned on a tree, as she tried to catch her breath. 'Why him.
Out of all people, he has to work for the King!' Before she had a chance to calm
down, she spotted a multi-colored flower nearby. 'Those are the most rare
Rainbow flower, this would be helpful for the princess' She was halfway there
when she stopped all of a sudden. 'Why should I help her?...but then again, she
doesn't seem like a bad person'. Yu Lin finally decided to pick the flower when
another hand reached for it too. She looked up a saw a guy around his early
20's.
"If you don't mind, please let go of MY flower". She stared at him in the eye, not giving up so easily.
"Oh, Im sorry, but it seems that I touched it first", the guy wasn't about to give up either.
"Fine you want to fight for it?" Before he could answer, she whipped out a small dagger hidden on the side of her white boots. She attacked him with it, although she didn't need to harm him because she was just trying to scare him. Unfortunately, he knew a bit of kung fu himself. They fought for a few minutes with each of their hands still holding tight on the flower.
Yu Lin knew they would not get anywhere if they continued to fight. So she quickly looked behind the guy and said "Chan Dai Gor, help me!", the guy looked behind him to prepare himself from being attacked. Yu Lin switched his grasp from the flower to a stick she picked up. Before the guy realized it, she had started running towards the village.
Upset from losing to a little brat, he chased after her.
Yu Lin came close to her home and she knew that he couldn't harm her if Gin Fei was around. She stopped abruptly in front of her home, the guy had beaten her to it. He sat on the steps looking at her with glee because he was sure that he could get the Rainbow flower back. She didn't looked scared, instead she smiled "You're not getting this flower" she waived it in front of him, teasingly.
"You want to bet?" He reached for it when a strong palm held onto his shoulder. Yu Lin grinned.
"Didn't your mother ever taught you that you shouldn't hit a lady?" Gin Fei twisted the guy around and quickly let go of his shoulders, "Siu Lung! What are you doing here?"
Yu Lin's face changed, "You know each other". The guys nodded smiling like old friends.
"I came here to look for the Rainbow flower, I know it only grows in the Summer and only around the mountains. I figured the Princess will need its healing pollen."
"Well, I guess we had the same idea then." she said bluntly.
Gin Fei looked at her with suprise "You're not mad anymore?" He was secretly glad because he knew the girls would be good friends if Yu Lin gave it some time.
Yu Lin shrugged her shoulders, "No point, it wasn't her fault my parents died."
Confused, Siu Lung looked at both of them "What are you talking about?"
Gin Fei smiled "I almost forgot to introduce you...This is" Before he could finish, the princess walked out.
"Lung Gor? What are you doing here?" All eyes turned to the Princess. She looked even more pale then before. Yu Lin quickly came to her side and pulled up her wrist to feel her pulse.
"Its a little slow but I think its because you lost a good amount of blood. I know what can help you." She helped the Princess inside as the guys followed close behind. She started to open the Rainbow Flower and took out the pollen.
"Aren't you suppose to boil the flower first?" Siu Lung asked with a knowing look.
Yu Lin raised her left brow "Are you a doctor?" she asked sarcastically. He nodded his head 'no'. "Well, sit down and don't speak, this is my home you know. Would you like it if I came to your place and told you how to dress or eat?" Gin Fei muffled his laugh while the Princess giggled. Embarassed from being taught by a girl, Siu Lung sat down.
"I feel sorry for the guy she marries" he said quietly. Yu Lin glared at him, she was going to say something else, but decided to bite her tongue, afterall she does have guests.
An hour later, the medicine was done and she put the powder in a little container and gave it to the Princess. "You have to drink this once everyday. Just a tiny pinch with hot water or tea will do. It will help you heal faster." The Princess smiled graciously and thanked her.
"Yu Lin, I know this isn't a good time, but I must ask. The King wants you to come to the Palace and help his wife." She didn't even have to answer, he knew that it was going to be 'no' by the look on her face. He didn't want to push her "Well, I did what the king asked me to, if you don't want to I won't push it. But we have to be leaving, the king is very worried for the Princess."
Siu Lung bounced from his chair "Great! I was waiting for you to say that" He walked out the door, glad to be out of that house.
The Princess got up and Gin Fei quickly went to her side to support her. "Thank you very much. I will make sure to tell my brother what great things you do here." Yu Lin shook her head.
"No, I don't need his sympathy or prizes. I just want to be left alone." She looked at Gin Fei to see if he had any reaction. He just nodded his head understandingly. Yu Lin walked her guests out and in a few minutes they were out of sight. She closed her door and sighed "Just you and me now, house"
Back in the Palace.
The King sat on his office worrying about his wife and sister when Lee Yan (Angie Cheung) walked in. The soldiers knelt down at her presence "Yan Fee." She waived her hand as she walked past them.
"I need to talk to the king. Leave us." The king had a questioned look on his face but waived for his servants and gaurds to leave.
"What is it, my precious?" He smiled kindly at Lee Yan. She returned the same smile.
"I have some news for you. I had some people follow the Princess to make sure that she would be safe." The King raised his eyebrow with surprise.
"Thats a good idea, I wish I would have thought of that." He always can trust Lee Yan to help him out when he has too many worries.
"It seems that this doctor girl, Wah Yu Lin is very stubborn about coming to the Palace to help Suet Jei (the sick queen). She's still mad at you for killing her family. Although she did save the Princess, but she wouldn't have if she knew her true identity before. She said she would rather die than to save anyone else from the kingdom!" She watched as the King's face turned to anger. Inside she smiled and was proud that she was able to convince the king of almost anything.
"How dare she!!" He slammed his hand on the table. Lee Yan pretended to jump in fear, clutching her heart. "Im sorry, my love." He was afraid he might have harmed her. "Well, she thinks that she can live in peace for making that kind of comment, she's wrong. Guards! Call for Hui Ga Wai."
In a minute Ga Wai was in the King's office. "Yes, your majesty."
"Seize this girl, Wah Yu Lin and bring her to me! I want her caught alive." The King wasn't about to kill her just yet...
"I will be on my way." Ga Wai left to get ready.
Lee Yan, smiled wickedly as she knew her plan was working out just fine. 'It was almost ruined by that darn girl! She'll get what's coming to her'.
