Chapter 1
Vivian Leung - Julie Cheung/LaiDeep in the city of Hong Kong stood a high rise building, the large stone poles holding it up. The glowing lights with the name “Toys Domination, Inc.” flashed to remind the people that it was in control. The building was different from most other buildings which stood on land, this building was over the harbor, in the middle of the water. Hung Fung, CEO and the President of this great masterpiece wanted nothing more than to be away from the competition, so he had a group of designers to make this building that was made purely of glass. It stood a good 10 stories tall, you needed to walk through a mechanical bridge that traveled from the building to land to get there. Most people found this masterpiece amazing especially the lucky ones that were able to work there.
Cass Lam (Joyce Tang) was among those fortunate ones. There were at least 1000 other employees but unlike them, she did not find her work to be amazing. Being one of the lower designers of toys, she constantly had deadlines and always stayed back to work late. Even then, her dedication was not appreciated. It had to do with her run in with the owner’s daughter Leann Fung, who is the manager of the Designing Department. It happened over a year ago and it couldn’t have been a worse coincident.
Leann was working late and she walked out to get a cup of coffee and found Cass, who by chance was working late. She had lost her earrings that her dead mother gave to her as a gift for her birthday. It rolled its way over to a door that she did not pay attention to. At the same time Leann saw and instantly scolded her “What the hell are you doing here?” she yelled angrily.
Cass was confused as she held up her diamond earring “I lost my earring…” she began to explain was quickly cut off.
“That’s a great excuse!” she snapped, she narrowed her eyes at the frightened girl “You know we could fire you for being in the ‘No Trespassing’ zone?” she was a petite girl, but her confidence made her look 6 feet tall.
Cass turned around at the door Leann was pointing at and surely enough the signed said ‘No Trespassers Allowed In This Area’. She spun her head back “I’m sorry, I really didn’t know, I was just looking for my earrings, I promise.” She pleaded.
Leann turned her eyes away “Yeah, tell it to my brother tomorrow.” With that she left the shocked Cass to her own thoughts.
It wasn’t the fact that she was caught in a ‘No Trespassing’ zone that Leann did not like her, it was because Leo Fung, her brother had a liking to the girl and refused to fire her. From that moment on Leann despised Cass with a vengeance. She knew her brother was flirtatious; being the Vice President of a huge corporation can do that to a person. His ego was bigger than the whole country itself. Leann did not get along with her brother and at times she is disgusted by his ego, he thought he could get any woman he wanted. They might share the same blood but they both were two peas in different pods.
A year and a half later, Cass was still working there but not by choice. She had signed a contract with the company to be there for 10 years if she were to quit, she would be fined one million dollars. She was desperate at that time she found the job, her sister was out of the country studying business while their parents had passed away when they were too young to know anything. Cass was pushed to fend for herself, she found herself in a rut that very day she returned to work. It was a routine for her, she was looked down by other employees who heard from Leann what she did to hold her job. Sleep with the Vice President. No matter what Cass said no one would believe her over the owner’s daughter. She was use to the mental abuse and had learned to block it out of her head.
Despite her miserable life, there was a bright star coming her way. Her younger sister was coming back, she graduated with honors at the University of London. Cass often admired her sister for being so smart and independent. Although she was much of a klutz, she adored her sister to death. The two girls were born from different fathers but they treated each other like full blood sisters. They’ve supported each other through thick and thin.
Cass waited by the airport for her sister to come out. Her heart beating so fast that could have jumped out and she wouldn’t even know it. Inside the plane, Julie waited for her turn to board off. Holding two carry on bags in her hand she was anxious to put it down. When it seemed like hours had passed, she finally stepped off the plane down the hallway where the people were waiting. Her face glowed like a million lights the minute she saw her sister. She waved frantically as she ran with all her might while holding onto the luggage in her hand. “Ga Jei!!”
Cass’s smile faded as she began shaking her head at her sister “Don’t run!” she cried, knowing her sister, she would trip.
The minute she said it, Julie fell flat on her face “Ow…” she groaned in pain while Cass laughed hysterically while trying to help her sister up. “Thanks for finding that amusing.” She said sarcastically while people turned heads to look at the clumsy girl.
Cass tried hard to suppress the laughter as she helped Julie take one of the luggage “I’m sorry, but you know I can’t help it. I saw that coming.” The girls collected Julie’s other three luggage, Cass picked up an extra heavy one as she asked “What in the world do you have in here? 100 irons?” she could barely lift it off the luggage machine.
“Let me get that for you.” A warm male voice said as he took the luggage from Cass, his hand grazing hers and she felt a shock run through her. Of course, it could have been electric shock from her body.
“Thanks…” Cass turned to face the most handsome guy she has ever seen. Her mouth curled up into a smile “I’m Cass…” she wasted no time to introduce herself.
“William Lai.” He shook her hand and turned to Julie with a sweet smile “Honey, I told you to wait for me.” He scolded as he helped her with the other two luggage. He turned to Cass who’s face clouded over “Julie didn’t tell you about me?” he asked in shock.
Julie laughed “That’s right, I didn’t even have time to tell her. Ga Jei, this is Will, my husband. We got married in London.” She began walking away with her sister, their arms linked, she gave her head a little spin “Will, can you get the luggages? Thanks sweetheart.” She smiled without letting him have the chance to refuse. She turned to look at her sister and her face was in complete shock. “Ga Jei, are you okay?”
Cass shook her head “No.” there she thought she found the perfect guy and he was married to her sister. What was she thinking? He was her brother in law, how could she have a crush on him. She quickly shook the thought from her mind as she laughed to herself. Julie looked at her strangely “Oh, don’t mind me. I’m just a little shock because I thought you would at least invite me, your only sister to your wedding.” She suddenly stopped walking “You’re not getting married out of wedlock are you?”
Julie gasped “No! How could you think of me like that?” she turned to see William struggling with the three luggages “You know I wouldn’t do that unless I’m married. Remember our pact?” she hissed in a whisper.
Cass sighed “Good. I thought you would forget about it.” She let out another tired sigh “I’m so pathetic, my baby sister is already married but yet I don’t even have a boyfriend.” She pretended to sob in pain while Julie wrapped her arms around her and stroked her hair.
“Oh, it’s okay little Cass, I will be with you always.” She laughed when Cass’s head snapped over to her “What?” Cass blinked endlessly, a sure sign of confusion “We’re going to move in with you. We don’t have the money to live outside.”
“But…but…what about privacy? Don’t you two want to have a family one day?” she asked in shock knowing that she would want one.
William was still struggling when he dropped a luggage and it pounded against the tile floors. The girls turned to him and Julie did not look amused nor concerned “You okay?” he nodded as he struggled to get the third luggage. Julie sighed as she got up and helped him “Would you stop acting like a man? If you can’t handle it just tell me.” She teased with a smile.
He tilted his head with a smile, at lost for words it seemed “That’s the thanks I get?”
Julie giggled “I’ll thank you later.” She said secretly while pulling the luggage along with her as she caught up with her sister.
The three returned to Cass’s home that was left to her by her father. “Home, at last.” She sunk into the soft cushioned couch.
William looked at his watch “Time.” He ordered and immediately the time was given by a voice coming from the wristwatch “7:46pm”. He looked at the girls and rubbed his tummy “I think it’s time to feed him.”
Julie groaned as she dug herself into her sister’s shoulder “I hate cooking…” she began whining.
Cass knew of it as she rolled her eyes “I’ll cook.” She smiled at William who was grinning at her like a monkey “Steak sound good?” he nodded. On the way to the kitchen she turned to the fridge “Open.” Her command worked as she pulled out some frozen steaks and placed them in her hybrid microwave. “Steak.” She told the machine and placed the food inside. It began cooking itself. She wondered why her sister was so lazy when it came to cooking, the technology they had was amazing. There was always a saying that machines would take over but no one has ever been worried about it.
The three had a pleasant dinner talking about everything they missed in the pass three years that Julie was gone “So, how did you two meet?” Cass asked.
“In School.” Julie replied at the same time Will said “At a restaurant.” The two exchanged glances and for a minute Cass saw that her sister looked a little nervous.
“No, we met in school remember? We shared the same class…” she began trying to trigger his memory.
Will nodded “Oh, yes…how could I forget? Yeah, it’s just that after that first day of class, we both happened to be at the same restaurant and that’s how we started talking.” He finished it like it was a story.
Cass looked at them suspiciously “That’s sounded so made up…” she trailed off.
Julie giggled brightly as she leaned in closer to her husband and wrapped her arms around his neck “No, why should we make it up?” she leaned in and kissed Will on the cheek. “Isn’t he just the cutest?” she asked with a wide grin before returning to her steak.
Will only smiled at Cass as he continued to eat. Cass only became more suspicious, something was definitely wrong about that picture. She shrugged at the two of them “Whatever you said, but I still think something’s not right about this picture.”
Julie let out an unexpected sigh “Fine, you want to know the truth?” Cass looked up, her brows rose in anticipation while Will turned to Julie, his head shaking. “The truth is-” his hand immediately came over her open mouth.
Julie struggled to get loose while Will laughed nervously “It’s nothing…she’s just kidding with you, Cass.”
Eventually, she got away and hit him roughly across the chest “Stop that!” she cried angrily, she straightened her shirt and turned to her sister, one hand up to block Will “The truth is that we got married when we were both drunk.” She saw Will sigh as he covered his face in his hands. “People shouldn’t allow two people to get married when they are that drunk. It’s just not fair.”
Will nodded “It’s true. I was in shock when I woke up with my new bride and not to mention the hangover was incredibly painful.”
Cass laughed as she covered her mouth “I knew something was wrong!” she pointed at the two of them “Why don’t you two have an annulment? I mean if you two didn’t do anything that night, the court will let you wave this marriage.” She said a matter of factly.
Before Julie could say anything Will jumped in “But we did do SOMETHING that night.” He pointed out. Cass turned to her sister and her face was beet red, she knew that something had happened. “She doesn’t remember but I do…very clearly.” A crooked smile snuck on his face as he leaned in closer to Julie “Isn’t that right darling?” he brushed her flaming cheeks with the back of his fingers.
Julie shivered from his touch “Let’s just say I had amnesia.” She looked up at her sister “We tried to get the annulment but they rejected it saying the laws in London have changed, if you got married there, you’d have to stay with your husband or wife for at least three years to get a divorce. They put this homing device on us and if we are to separate for more than 100 miles in the time limit of 8 hours, we would blow up.” She showed her sister the device that was beeping a light blue light on the back of her neck. Cass turned to Will and surely, he had one on the back of his neck also.
“Well, that’s a bit extreme don’t you think?” Cass gasped in horror “It would blow up?” she couldn’t get over it.
Will shook his head “Well, not really blow up. It would give us a lot of pain. I think Julie means that we would blow up from the pain.” Julie nodded to confirm his words.
Cass sat back as she took in the new news “So what are you two going to do? Where are you working now, Will?”
He shrugged “I don’t know yet. I’m just going to find a job somewhere in the city.”
Julie turned to her sister with a sweet smile “I’m gonna work with my wonderful, gracious sister, who’s going to find me a job at the amazing Toys Domination, Inc.” she concluded.
Cass sighed “It’s not that amazing.” She looked up and found Julie frowning at her “I’m not lying. That place makes me miserable, they make you sign this…this…treaty! You have to, I mean HAVE to stay there for 10 years and if you quit, they fine you this outrageous amount that they know you don’t have.” She buried her face in her hands “I hate it there, I’d rather die.” She dropped her face on the table.
Julie laughed at her sister’s exaggeration “I’m sure it’s not THAT bad.” Cass looked up and nodded her head “Well, that’s my dream, to work in a huge corporate building. I don’t care what you say, I’m going to apply there tomorrow morning whether your agree or not.” She said firmly, Cass was about to open her mouth to say something but was hushed by her sister “NO!” she widened her eyes “I already set up an interview tomorrow, I even have the notice.” She showed her sister a see through plate as she pushed it up to the light and a letter appeared on the white walls indicating of her interview the next day. Julie put the letter away as she smiled at her sister “Anyways, we can help each other out and we could eat lunch together…go to work together and leave work together, it’ll be great!” she was beginning to get excited.
Chapter 2
Nick Cheung - Andy ChuAfter dinner Julie and Will entered one of the empty rooms together. As soon as the door closed, Julie rolled her eyes as she jumped on the queen size bed “Finally, I can sleep.” She took one of the pillows and threw it at him as he caught it with ease. “Night.” She covered herself with the blanket and closed her eyes as she let her body sink into the mattress.
He knew that they would never spend a night on the bed ever again as he threw the pillow on the ground far away from Julie’s bed and prepared to sleep on the floor “Good night.” He replied.
Cass unexpectedly opened their room door to check on her new roommates “How are you two-” She stopped when she saw the two of them separated on opposite sides of the bed. “What’s going on?” she asked confused again.
Julie and William stared at her wide-eyed, “Uh…” Julie stuttered.
William came to the rescue “Well… you see…your sister is so irresistible and I’m not ready to have a kid. This is our protection from getting pregnant.”
“Yeah!” Julie added, she threw Will a smile.
Cass wrinkled her forehead “Ever heard of the patch?” Julie shook her head “You put on this patch that sterilizes you for a certain amount of time. Kind of like birth control pills, which I doubt they make anymore. I can order it for you right now, it’ll be delivered in 10 minutes. It’s not healthy for a couple to be living like this.” She used her older sister tone of voice. “If you guys want this to work you have to try and if this-”
She was quieted by Julie who got up and pushed her sister out “Okay, we know, Ga Jei.” She quickly locked the door and turned to William “This is gonna be harder than I thought.” She sighed.
He nodded in agreement “I don’t know how long we can pull this off.” He laid back on his floor bed.
“It’s a good thing I thought of the explanation.” Julie commended herself.
Will snorted with laughter “Yeah, we would blow up if we were separated, that’s REALLY believable.”
Julie pointed to him angrily “Hey, if you can come up with something better why didn’t you speak up?” she hissed at him.
“I would of but you threw in that fake excuse.” He pointed out.
“Whatever.” She rolled her eyes “Don’t snore.” She said before going to sleep, she knew he had a bad habit of snoring because he slept on his back. From the few months she spent with him in London, she had to learn the hard way of her new husband’s bad habits. Julie on the other hand had to sleep in complete silence, she would wake up at any sound. In the middle of the night, she snapped her eyes open when Will’s snore rang out loud and clear. She began tossing and turning and eventually, she pulled off one of her socks and rolled it up in a ball as she aimed in to the corner where he was sleeping. Even though it was dark, she knew where to aim as it landed roughly on his cheek.
He quickly snapped upright as he picked up the warm, fuzzy object “Why do you always do this?” his leg was pushed up as he leaned on his knee staring at her in the darkened room.
“Because you snore.” She said sarcastically.
“It’s not a sin to snore, you don’t have to be so rude.” He snapped back. “Lights.” He commanded as the room lit up.
Julie immediately covered her eyes from the sudden brightness “Dim lights.” She said as the lights dimmed at her request “Look, just because we have to stay married doesn’t mean I have to take it. I have not gotten a good night sleep since I met you.”
He laughed as he threw his head back and got up as he walked threateningly closer to her “Really? It’s not what you said that one night. Oh Will, don’t leave me alone. I’m afraid…” he mocked her with a teasing voice.
Julie leered her eyes at him evilly “I was delirious from the pain…” she gritted her teeth.
Suddenly, the door opened again and immediately Will sat down on the bed next to Julie, the two looked at Cass with surprise “You guys are just too loud…” she said sleepily.
Julie looked at her sister “You can hear us? And how come you can open the door after I locked it?”
“It is MY house.” She pointed out “I have commands for every room.” She let out a yawn “Just let him sleep on the bed.” She waved her hands as she left the room once more.
The two glared at each other while Will returned to his corner “I’d rather drink acid.” He muffled.
“That makes two of us.” Julie grumbled.
****************
The next morning, just as Julie promised she followed her sister to work while Will continued to sleep. Her eyes popping out in amazement from the moment, she took the trolley to the moving bridge to the glass building that stood tall in front of her. “Wow, this is amazing.” Julie gushed.
Cass smiled at her baby sister, she looked like a little girl who just received her first toy. “I can’t take you to the hiring director but he’ll be on the 5th floor.” She directed.
Julie nodded but her eyes were glued to the building. When they reached double glass doors, Cass placed her thumb on a checking device as it cleared her through “Welcome Cass Lam.” The machine said while the doors beeped open for her to go through. Julie took out her clear plaque as she placed it over the device “Thank you, Julie Cheung. Please report to the 10th floor to speak with Mr. Fung.” The doors opened and allowed Julie to walk through.
Cass frowned “Why are you meeting with the big guy? I thought the hiring manager was suppose to do the interviews?” she wondered out loud.
Julie shrugged “Whatever the reason, I’m sure they’ll let me know.” She took a deep breath “Wish me luck!”
Cass smiled “If you have any luck, they will turn you down.” She joked.
Julie’s smile faded “Well, they won’t turn me down.” She said firmly. The two girls entered the cylinder glass elevators.
“3rd Floor and 10th floor.” Cass spoke into the speaker. The machine speeded upwards as it stopped slowly on the 3rd floor. “Good luck.” She said to Julie before beginning her work.
Julie took a deep breath as she stepped out of the floor that she was to get off, dressed in a dark brown pant suit, she was ready for any interview. She walked to the receptionist of the floor “Hi, I’m Julie.”
“You’re here to see Mr. Fung right? He’s been waiting for you.” The girl spoke like a zombie as she handed Julie a key. “Open the 7th door to your left, he will be with you in a minute.”
Julie nodded as she walked down the hall full of numbered offices. She stopped at the door which had a number 7 on it. Putting the key in the socket as it sucked it in and the door immediately opened for her “Welcome, Julie Cheung.” It announced her arrival. She entered the room and the door closed behind her, she looked around and found a huge screen in front of a squared shape table. A rolling chair came behind her as she turned and sat on it, it quickly pushed her closer to the table.
Within seconds of her being seated, the screened appeared a face of a young and handsome man. She did not expect a young guy as she raised her eyes in surprise “Ms. Cheung. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Leo Fung.” He gave her a winning smile when he saw her beautiful face “You look surprised. Did you expect my father to do the interview?”
Julie shook her head vehemently “No, of course not! I didn’t know the Vice President would be interviewing me.”
Leo laughed heartily “I am human after all. Anyways, it was my father’s orders for me to interview everyone that walks into this building. I see your resume is quite impressive. Tell me Miss Cheung or should I call you Julie?” he flirted openly. “That’s a beautiful name by the way.”
Julie threw him a shining smile “Julie is fine. Thank you, I was embarrassed by my lack of knowledge in the business world even though I graduated with a business major. I’ve never had a real job before.” She wasted no time in being humble knowing that he would be appreciative of it.
Surely it worked as he chuckled “Nonsense! No one ever comes into a new job with experience. Tell me about your work ethics.” He said with much interest.
“Well, I’m a perfectionist so I have to finish all the work before I even think about leaving.” She seemed to ponder more things to say as she tightened her lips and tapped her chin with her finger.
Leo smiled as he looked at her intently, she was a striking girl not to mention her smile made his heart flutter “Hey, that’s good enough for me. You’re hired.” He said instantly.
Julie looked surprised “Really?” she asked.
He laughed “Don’t you want the job?”
“Of course!” she said quickly “I didn’t think it would be that easy.”
Leo nodded “Maybe you expected too much.” He smiled “Why don’t you come over to Room 15 down the hall to your left and we’ll get started.”
“Thank you.” She said politely as she got up and followed his orders. When she got to the door, it opened up knowing that she would be there. Inside was the same man she saw on the screen during the interview. He looked more confident than she imagined.
Without getting up from his leather chair as he smiled at her “You are much prettier in person.” He complimented. She only smiled with her head facing the floor looking shy and it only turned him on more. This time he stood up and walked over to her as he pulled her face up with his fingers slightly touching her chin “You’re going to love it here.” He leaned in as he grazed her face with his cheek “I guarantee it.” He breathed into her ears making her shiver. He moved back and returned to his desk as he handed her a clear see through folder “Take this to the 5th floor and they will get you ready.”
Julie nodded with a smile “Thank you for giving me this chance.”
He put up a hand as his finger wagged at her “Uh uh, thank YOU for giving us the opportunity to have you work for us. We will have so much fun.” His voice was deep and she almost sensed it threatening. She turned to leave as he cleared his throat “Oh Julie, I couldn’t help but look over your file. It says here that you’re married?” he said it casually but she knew he was waiting for the moment to ask her.
“Yes.” She nodded “Almost four months now.”
Leo nodded “Lucky guy.” He didn’t seem at all bothered by it. He waved for her to be on her way as she gave him a slight bow and walked out.
When she got down to the 5th floor, they took her fingerprints like she was a criminal. They stood her in front of a huge machine that scanned every inch of her body into the computer. When she imprinted her thumb into another machine, her data popped up into the computer showing from the day she was born to who she was married to. “You can start working today.” the guy ordered. She secretly wondered if they all acted like mannequins.
She returned to the third floor and checked in with her new boss Leann Fung. She knew the resemblance as soon as she walked through that door of the equally large office from her brother’s. “You’re Julie Cheung right?” she asked with pure suspicion.
Julie nodded with a warm smile trying to break through her cold exterior “Actually, it’s Julie Lai, I’m married.”
For whatever reason that she wasn’t sure of, Leann smiled at her with the same warm smile she gave her earlier “Really?” she asked with surprise. She leaned into her desk with obvious interest “Now why would my brother hire you?” she seemed to be asking herself that. Julie gave her a strange look as she quickly explained “My brother only hires single girls. But you are stunning, maybe that’s why he decided to keep you.”
Julie smiled shyly “Thank you. But I don’t think I’m that pretty. I just hope I do a good job. What will I be doing?”
Leann nodded returning to her boss stature “Oh yes, you will be doing mostly modeling of the toys in the computer. The designers will hand you their work and you will begin. I’d say just take a little time to get to know everyone first. If you need help, just let me know. I’ll take you around and meet everyone.” She offered.
“Oh I wouldn’t want to take away your precious time.” She said sincerely “I’ll find my way around, don’t worry about me.”
Leann’s smile faded “There are certain places you cannot go in to…”
Julie nodded “I’ll look out for the No Trespassing signs.” She said smartly.
The new boss smiled with approval “I’m glad to hear that. You know some people here don’t know how to read.” Her eyes rolled sarcastically.
“Well, I don’t want to take anymore of your time. I’ll start work now.” Julie nodded as she walked out of the office letting out a sigh. They were two tough people, but it looks like luck was on her side, the new boss lady had an instant liking to her. She returned to her station, which again was made of clear cubicles. She made a mental note to ask her sister why the place was made of glass.
“Watch out!” a male voice said but it was too late, the mail bin had a mind of it’s own as it ran into Julie. She picked herself up while a strong hand helped her up “Are you okay?” the guy asked.
Julie shook her head “No.” she turned to see a frumpy looking guy, he was dressed in an old blue uniform, his hair was long and shaggy. His black frames were squared shape and it did no justice to his kind eyes. “I’m okay.” She smiled.
He looked like he hasn’t shaved for years “You new here?” he asked straightforwardly. Julie nodded “Good luck.” He snickered before walking away.
“I’m Julie!” she yelled after him. He only waved his hand without looking back. She tilted her head and wondered why the people there was so strange. No one looked to be happy at all.
Chapter 3
Nick Cheung - Andy ChuAfter her encounter with the frumpy boy who looked like he was locked in the surfer era. Julie returned to work but she didn’t do much the whole day. She spent most of her time studying the model program the company used. Before her long and dragging day ended, Leann called all the designers and modelers into the conference room. She closed the door behind her although it was useless since everything was made of glass.
Julie thought of it too soon as Leann commanded the room “Privacy.” She ordered and instantly the blinds covered all the windows making the room appeared with four walls. She turned to everyone and gave a grim smile “Now, for some of the newer people, you probably don’t know that we have a regime that we go by at the beginning of every month. You are to take home a toy, any toy that the company has made in the past year. I will expect an evaluation on how to make this toy better, perfect it even, in about two weeks. Is that clear?”
Everyone muttered and nodded. Julie on the other hand was more interested. She raised her hand and Leann raised her eyebrows at the questioning girl “Does the company make a toy puppy?”
Leann smiled, finally someone was interested in this monthly project “Yes, we do, it’s called Robotic Pup.”
Julie smiled approvingly “Is it active?”
“I think it is, but there is always room for improvement.” She looked at the new employee thoughtfully “Would you like to evaluate this toy?”
“Can I?” Julie smiled “There’s not any order that we have to go by?” she gave her sister a glance and noticed Cass staring at her strangely.
“Of course! It's about time someone was more interested in this project.” She walked over to her own computer and typed it in. “Okay, everyone can tell me one at a time. People that have already chosen can go and pick up their toys and go home.” She gave Julie a wink.
Julie smiled as she walked out to her desk and collected her belongings. She stood outside and waited for her sister. After almost fifteen minutes she has not seen her sister, but everyone else left. Finally half an hour later, she saw Cass walking out, her expression was nothing near satisfied. She approached her sister carefully “What’s wrong?”
Cass shook her head “Nothing.” She did not want to bother. She knew Leann did not have a good impression of her, there was no use in making matters worse especially after she noticed how Leann favored Julie.
“What toy did you chose?” Julie asked casually as they walked to towards the elevator to the 1st floor to pick up their toys.
“Julie?” the girls stopped as they turned to see Leann looking at them with curiosity.
“Yes?” Julie replied.
Leann approached them with a look that Julie could not read but Cass knew better, a question was coming “You two know each other?” she asked cautiously.
Julie was about to reply but her sister quickly butted in “We’re just casual friends. High school peers.” She nodded.
Julie turned to her sister wondering why she had to lie, but she sensed that her sister had a reason. “Yeah…” she answered after a few seconds.
Leann nodded “I see.” She walked away without saying anything further.
“What was that all about?” Julie asked her sister.
“I’ll tell you later.” The girls collected their toys and went on their way home. When they were safe in their electric car, Cass explained “She doesn’t like me.” She summarized the first incident that happened which caused Leann to dislike her. “That’s why I had to lie, if she knew we were sisters, you would be in big trouble, she would make your life a living hell. Trust me.”
Julie shook her head “That’s not fair.” She felt concerned for her sister “I promise, once we get to know her better, I’ll make sure she changes her attitude towards you. Its too early to try to be close.” She patted her sister on the shoulder “It’ll get better. I promise.”
Cass smiled with a shrug of the shoulder “I’m use to it.” She brightened up at a thought “Hey, why did you chose that Robotic Pup?”
Julie smiled evilly “You’ll see.” She said secretively.
Sure enough, Cass soon found out. The minute they walked through the door, they found Will sitting on the couch eating his own dinner. He looked up “Hope you two don’t mind, but I was so hungry, I couldn’t wait for you guys to get home.”
Julie shrugged “It’s okay. Honey, I have a surprise for you.” She sang happily.
His face clouded over “I don’t like the way you said ‘honey’. What surprise, I’m afraid to ask.”
She hid the pup behind her back as she walked closer and practically dropped it on his lap “It’s just like a real puppy!” she watched as he scrambled to get the mechanical toy off his lap, screaming at the top of his lungs.
“Get it off me!!!” he panicked when the dog purred against his chest, the cold metal seeping through his sweater. Julie burst into giggles as she pointed at him and laughed. She knew his fear of the mechanical dog when they first met and it was a joke ever since. She never understood why he hated them so much. “Don’t just stand there and laugh, help me!!”
Cass shook her head at her laughing sister “What’s wrong with him?” she walked to him calmly and picked up the moving dog, his tail was wagging back and forth and he was almost as active as a real live puppy. The minute she held onto it, it barked happily at her. “Why are you afraid of this?” she asked Will.
He was completely shaken up as he got up and stood far away from Cass “Just get that thing away from me!” he noticed that Julie was still laughing “That’s not funny and you know it!”
Julie wiped the tears from her eyes “I’m trying to help you with your childhood fears.”
Before he had the chance to say anything else, his watched began to beep frantically. He took a glance at it and his face instantly calmed down. “Oh, time for our daily exercise.” He smiled at his wife.
“Daily exercise?“ Cass asked.
Julie’s smile faded “Oh yeah, our shrink said it’s good for us to work on our differences. And we need to do it everyday.” She explained as she waved for him to come over.
He steered clear away from the moving puppy in Cass’s arms as he raced down the hall to their bedroom. Julie rolled her eyes at her sister before following him. In the room, they locked the door with the new password that they cracked while Will pressed a tiny button on the side of his watch. The tiny clasp opened up and a bright light shined towards the wall. A moving picture of a bearded man appeared “Good evening agents.” He said with high authority.
“Sergeant Liu.” The two stood in their stance like a military officer.
“At ease.” He nodded “I’m just checking on how you two are doing.” He turned to Julie “Are you in?”
“Yes, sir. It was almost too easy, which concerns me.” She explained how she got the job.
The man nodded “I wouldn’t not be too worried. Although Leo Fung is a smart man, he has a weakness for beautiful women. Good job, Agent Cheung. How about you?” he turned to William.
“I’ve checked around for their competitors but cannot find anyone worth taking the chance on. Toys Domination is too strong. We cannot counterstrike them with another competitor that doesn’t exist.” He explained.
“Don’t worry about that part then, I’ll talk to the higher authorities and see what we can do. In the meantime, I want you to help Agent Cheung to gain the trust of Leo Fung.” His orders were clear. “How are you two getting along?”
Julie and Will exchanged knowing glances “We’re doing fine, sir.” Will answered for the both of them. “How will I help her?”
“Join the company.” The man said shortly “I must go now. Agent Cheung, do not play anymore pranks on Agent Lai. His weaknesses is nothing to joke with. We need him to be strong not scream like a girl.”
Julie stifled a giggle as she nodded “Yes, sir.” The man was wiser beyond his age. Plus he knew everything that went on with his agents.
Will cleared his throat as he saluted the image “I will try my best to tolerate her.”
Julie threw him a glare that can burn through walls but he ignored it. “That is fine. Remember, you two are a team. I put you two together for a reason. Don’t disappoint me. We’ve had too many agents died from this mission. No one has returned. I see a good future for you two, but you must work together.”
“Yes, Sir!” the two saluted before his image was sucked back into Will’s supposed watch, it was actually a contact device that they used for communication with their authorities.
Julie wasn’t sure how she came about the devotion to be a secret agent. She just wanted something exciting and a job that can satisfy her with curiosity. She always wanted to solve mysteries when she was young. Her sister did not know of her passion and later when she decided to move to London, it was a three year training process to become the best agent the FBI has ever conformed.
As for Will, he has followed in his father’s footsteps. He joined the mission to discover the secrets of Toys Domination due to the fact that his father had died many years before trying to solve the case. He promised on his father’s grave that he would forever be faithful to the FBI.
During their three year training, their head Sergeant pushed for the teamed agents to learn more about each other. From knowing their fears to understanding their strengths. Although the Sergeant found Julie to be more inconsiderate of Will’s fears, he soon learned that was part of her personality. His only request was for them two to get along, which they tried. When he teamed them up, the two had disagreed and would not commit but soon, they knew there was no choice when he locked them up in a closed out maze and work together to make it out alive. They did, one of the few teams that did, therefore he saw something in them that no one else saw.
Julie sat on the bed as she sighed “Isn’t it enough I have to see you everyday? Now I have to see you at work too?” she complained.
He raised an eyebrow at her “You think I like that idea?” he was about to sit down next to her when she gave him a no-you-don’t look and he walked across the room and sat on the chair. “Why do you torment me?” he asked. It was something he pondered since he met her but they never talked about.
She laughed “Why do you ask ridiculous questions?”
“Why do you answer questions with a question?” he was as quick as she was.
She shrugged carelessly “I don’t know. I just like to torture people I guess. Mainly you.”
“But why?” he wanted to get an answer out of her once and for all.
“Because I just do!” she sounded agitated “You don’t ask someone why they love a person, so why do you ask a person why they dislike someone else?”
Will shook his head “You dislike me that much?”
She tilted her head and scrunched her face thoughtfully “I don’t dislike you….I don’t know, I just like to see you squirm like a girl.”
He sighed as he rolled his eyes “I give up, this is never going anywhere.” He got up and faced the door “Willie.” That was the code to unlock the door. He almost jumped back when he saw Cass standing there with the puppy in her arms. “Oh, get that thing away from me!”
Julie laughed while her sister dropped the puppy “Go outside.” She commanded, it barked in reply and did as she told. She turned to Julie, “How did you guys unlock my code? I couldn’t open the door at all.”
The two looked at each other secretively “I knew your password for this room was my name.” Julie said nonchalantly “You always used my name for a command. You’ve done it since we were small. Anyways, we need privacy.” She said knowingly.
Cass nodded “Oh. Well, that puppy is hungry, it’s been barking the whole time.”
“Hungry? It’s a machine, how could it be hungry? What do you feed it?” Will asked Julie.
“I didn’t know we have to feed it too. Gosh, I didn’t know how realistic it was until now.” She said without much feeling. Will instantly knew that she was lying.
“Why do you hate me?” he groaned.
Cass smiled “You two definitely got problems.” She closed the door for them to continue their session.
