Into all of our lives many doors are opened and just as many doors are closed. This poem is for those of us who have had the door we opened and thought was our last, closed by someone we thought to be special. Life goes on and we all have to watch for the right door to open again. God blesses us and we must be ready for His blessing. You can shut the door...but don't shut off your life. God Bless. Love: Marlene
The Door by Marlene Porter June 4, 2001
The door opened like a whirlwind when you first came into my life. It swung itself wide open and soon you asked me to be your wife. I was thrilled beyond belief that God sent you my way. But the door began to teeter and it slowly began to sway.
For the door opens on both sides and it quietly swung the other way. As your love for me lessened and your feelings you held at bay. The closed door took me by surprise one day and put me in my place. As it quickly slammed itself right in my unbelieving face.
I suddenly realized there are two things you can do with a shut door. You can stay behind it, wallow in pity and live your life no more. Or open up the door and step outside and do what you know is right. Leave the darkness behind the door and step into the promising light.
And remember the adage that when one door closes, another opens wide. And you have to choose the right door knowing when to step out or step inside. So though the door to what you thought was love has closed behind you. The next door could be the right one and you'll start your life anew.
Forgive the one who closed the door, for they are surely hurting too. Because this is a pain and loss they never wanted to put you through. And wish them a life of happiness no matter how hard it is to say. For surely God will bless you both as you go on your seperate way.
