The Blood-Horse
Having one of the best afternoons in his young career, leading rider Tyler Baze won five races at Fairplex Park on Saturday, including the $100,000 Barrett's Debutante with Last Kiss.
Trained by Bill Spawr, Last Kiss was a maiden coming into the 6-1/2-furlong stakes for juvenile fillies. But the daughter of Slew's Royalty established command early in the race, then held on to win by one length as the 19-year-old Baze gave her a confident ride.
Heavy favorite Ionia, off to a slow start, and Sky's Snow finished in a dead-heat for second.
With a final time of 1:18.28, Last Kiss paid $13.80, $3.80 and $3.60. Ionia returned $2.20 and $2.20 and Sky's Snow's price was $2.80 and $3.80.
Partners Acker, Lindo and Toomajian bought Last Kiss for $17,000 at Barrett's May sale.
