When I was a little girl
Things seemed so very simple.
All I needed was a smile
From the boy that lived next door.
I sat in my best wear
And you in your Dad's hat.
We felt very grown up
Almost like giddiness, in fact
Our friendship grew each new day
Sending rainbows, as we played,
Colors painted with heavenly love
My best friend from heaven above
Together, you would find us
Spending time on our little journey,
Traveling along the day,
On a childhood trip
Laughing and dreaming, to see what we'd find
On a summer's afternoon
We'd sail a ship far off.
Make believe, a language played
Fun filled avenues we soon would cross.
When I think of you, my friend,
I just close my eyes, and "make believe"
Our language spoken way back then.
