The Flowers!
Whats that you have?
I asked, as I looked in her face
A look glowing with adoration
Standing in her fine lace dress
Looking up at me with wonder
She handed me the flowers
The deep love of her gesture
Would be all my tomorrows.
How great the love of a child
Lavishing me with the finest
this day
The fragrant flowers,
what could I say?
I smile---as I reached out
My heart so touched
By this little one
So dainty, but caring so much.
I embrace her small image,
A mother's love so strong,
My eyes could see no wrong,
The Flowers"---with stems so long.
Spring would soon be here,
With it, would bring more flowers
Like days, once long ago,
Fresh and new, soon tomorrows.
I visit the place where she lay
Always knowing she's near.
I bring the long stem flowers,
Setting them down gently, with tears.
Yes, she's gone from this world,
She's gone from her pain.
But tomorrows still hidden.
God gave me so much to gain.
"Mother dear" ---- she would say
"Lets go to the garden"
The flowers are all in bloom.
Take my hand, we'll walk together
Sheltered from the gloom.
For awhile I will dream
Of all our yesterdays
Walking through the garden
In it's beauty and array.
I'll always be with you.
