Chapter Fourteen: Fate and Destiny
Chapter Fourteen: Fate and Destiny

Back to the present...

Nick forced himself back into reality. Jessica was gone and he didn't want to torture himself anymore with all the memories he shared with her. He realized tears were streaming down his face as he relived the journey of love he took with the only woman he'd ever love. He knew him and Jessica were destined to be together. She was the only one for him and he knew that. He just couldn't answer the question that kept coming up. Why did he do what he did? No matter how hard he thought he couldn't find a good answer for why he did it. Maybe because there was no decent answer. It was a stupid mistake that he couldn't take back. He would if he could but it was too late. Jessica was gone. A part of him felt incomplete and empty. She had been with him day and night for the past 2 years now he had no idea when he'd see her again. He knew one thing though. He HAD to get her back.

"Nick are you in there?"Leighanne's sweet voice called from outside of his room.

"Yeah,"he called weakly and sniffed, wiping his eyes.

"Can I come in?"

Nick sighed then got up and dragged to the door. He opened it to see Leighanne's worried face. She didn't say anything, she just pulled him in a hug.

"It'll be ok. I promise,"she whispered looking into his eyes. Brian stepped from behind his girlfriend and closed the door. Nick couldn't hold back his tears even though he tried.

"It's ok to cry Nick,"Brian told him softly. Nick put his face in his hands as the tears escaped.

"I really love her guys,"he said, wiping his eyes.

"Nick it's ok. We know. Everyone makes mistakes,"Leighanne said, hugging him again.

"Group hug!"Brian called out, jumping in, hoping to lighten the mood.

Nick cracked a tiny smile,"Thanks guys."

Brian and Leighanne both smiled and Brian said,"Everyone's here for you dude. We have to head out of here soon. It's time to go home. Remember the break we have before we have to start promoting Black and Blue?"

"I almost forgot. With everything goin on it wasn't exactly my first priority,"Nick said rubbing his eyes.

Brian and Leighanne nodded sympathetically,"We know."

"Well I'm feelin kinda shitty right now. What time's the flight?"

"In 2 hours. We gotta leave soon. You're all packed right?"Brian asked.

"Yeah, is someone gonna get the luggage soon?"

"Yup,"Brian said. "Are you ok?"

"No but whatever. I'm just gonna torture myself thinkin bout how much I love her and how much I miss her and how perfect she is and how stupid I am and-"

"Ok Nick don't do this to yourself,"Brian said gently to his friend.

Nick stared at him and a tear trickled down his face,"I just love her so much and I can't live with myself for doing this to her."

"You're not going to do anything stupid are you?" Leighanne asked with her eyes wide.

"No but right now I wish I was dead,"Nick said simply, wiping away another fallen tear.

"It'll be ok Nick. I don't want to ever hear you say that again,"Leighanne said to him firmly, putting a small hand on his arm.

"I'm not gonna kill myself Leighanne,"Nick sighed.

"She still loves you Nick and if it was really meant to be fate will bring you together again,"Brian said.

"You'll see her again at our wedding,"Leighanne said, glancing to Brian and smiling in spite of the moment. Brian squeezed her hand lightly.

"That's right Nick. You'll see her again and remember what I told you. If you two were meant to be it'll happen,"Brian assured him.

"Yeah you're right,"Nick said, wishing desperately for it to be true.

"Ok, just relax here for a little bit. I'll come get you when we gotta leave,"Brian said, patting Nick's arm.

Nick was upset but he wished everyone would stop felling sorry for him. He screwed up now he had to face the consequences. No one should feel bad for him at all,"Sure Brian. Thanks."

Brian nodded,"Welcome." He took Leighanne, who was giving him a sympathetic face, by the hand and they walked to the elevator.

Nick roughly pushed another tear off his face, annoyed that he was being so emotional. He loved her so much though. All he could do was try and forget about her the best that he could.

Jessica wasn't doing much better as she sat in the airplane. She held a picture of her and Nick in her delicate hands. It was taken on one of Nick's off days when he had no touring, photoshoots, or interviews. These happened very rarely and he spent every second of that day with Jessica. In the picture, which Brian had taken, Jessica was on Nick's back and they looked so happy together. It was the time in their relationship when nothing went wrong. Nick loved his job and he would gladly give his right arm just to be with her instead of telling her he needed a break from their relationship. Tears trickled down Jessica's soft cheek and fell onto the picture.

"Is that your boyfriend?" an elderly lady asked her peering at the photo.

Jessica smiled slightly,"I was with him for 2 years. We just broke up."

"Oh that's terrible. He's a good looking young man,"she said looking at the picture. "And you're a good looking young lady."

"Thank you,"Jessica replied bashfully. "He's a singer."

"Oh really? That's interesting. He looks like the boy from a band my granddaughter likes the-"

"Backstreet Boys. Yeah he gets that a lot,"Jessica said smiling then as quickly as it came, the smile faded. "I really loved him. I still do."

"I bet you do,"she replied. "Oh I'm really sorry. I should've introduced myself. I'm Kathleen."

"I'm Jessica."

"Well you know Jessica, it'll be ok. Really it will. You two must obviously love eachother. If destiny wants you two together it'll happen,"Kathleen said. "I started dating my husband when I was young. We were together for three years and then we broke up. We met again a year later, both realizing we still loved eachother. We got married soon after. We were married for 60 years."

Jessica smiled at her,"That's sweet."

"Yes, my Arthur just passed away recently,"Kathleen said sadly.

"Oh I'm sorry,"Jessica said softly.

"Yes well we all have to go sometime. He was my soulmate though. What I'm trying to say sweetie is that if you were supposed to be together you'll meet again. It might not even be when you expect it, but it will happen."

For a minute, a flash of hope passed through Jessica. She then sadly realized that she didn't know if she could ever trust Nick again after what he did to her. She also realized that she had belived that Nick was her soul mate. She still believed it. That would explain the feeling that a piece of her heart had been missing since she broke up with him. He was part of her and would always be part of her. She just couldn't take him back. Her heart told her that she needed him but her brain screamed 'He's a cheater! He broke your heart! Don't take that scum back!'. Right now this was the best thing to do. She had to go home and get her life back on track. Jessica knew that Kathleen was right. He'd find her again someday if he really was her soul mate. Then maybe should could look past what he had done and then they'd be together forever again. Hopefully.
