What mysterious event occured on May 19, 1780 in New England, causing many to believe the end was near?
 
A cloud descended on New England that was so dense and dark that it was impossible to read without the aid of candles. The cloud cleared by the next morning, and it is now believed to have been a result of forest fires and dense fog or clouds.
