Trivia for 1/7
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Answer for 1/6:
What U.S. coin was in such short supply in 1974 that some stores offered a 50-percent bonus in purchasing power for its use?
(A) Penny
(B) Nickel
(C) Dime
(D) Quarter
Ans: (A) Penny. In 1973, the U.S. Mint produced an aluminum penny, hoping it would win favor and replace the expensive to produce copper penny. It was an unsuccessful bid, and the 1,570,000 minted were ordered destroyed. It is believed about a dozen never made it back. One was donated to the Smithsonian Institute.
