John Darling was a comic strip spin-off from Tom Batiuk's popular Funky Winkerbean. It ran from March 1979 to August 1991. What was interesting about how the strip ended?
Batiuk had a contract dispute with his syndicate, so he decided to kill off the main character. In the second to last strip, Darling was shot by an unknown assailant. The murder was eventually solved in the Funky Winkerbean strip, in 1997.
