Pocahontas' given names were Matoaka and Amonute; Pocahontas was a childhood nickname.
 
What did the nickname stand for in her native Powhatan language?
 
'Pocahontas' referred to her frolicsome nature. In the Powhatan language it meant "little wanton" or "little mischief". After her marriage, Pocahontas was known as Rebecca Rolfe by the English.
