Hanako died on July 7, 1977 at the ripe old age of 226 years old! What kind of creature was Hanako?
 
A Koi fish. They are an ornamental, domesticated variety of the common carp. The are common in artificial rock pools and decorative ponds. Amazingly, some varieties are capable of living more than 200 years.
