Trivia for 4/9
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Answer for 4/8:
What now-commonplace item was called "Congreves" when the inventor first sold them in 1827?
Hint: They were later called "lucifers" when marketed by someone else, since the inventor never patented his idea.
Matches. In the 19th century, English chemist and pharmacist John Walker accidently came up with the thought of coating the end of a wooden stick with antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate, gum and starch. Once dried, he found he could ignite a fire by striking the stick anywhere. He called them "Congreves" after Congreve's rocket.
47 players answered correctly.
Question for 4/9:
The cast included Michael Caine, Henry Fonda, Patty Duke, Richard Chamberlain, Olivia de Havilland, Richard Widmark, Katharine Ross, Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens, Jose Ferrer, Lee Grant, Fred MacMurray - seven Oscar winners in that bunch!
The film they all starred in must have been awesome! Name that 1978 film.
